I fish high school tourneys, so we get to prefish.  We get to skip school and our parents know about, and don't get mad.

When I was 15 I had a job working at the high school (so no skipping).

I saved up $900 to buy this boat...a Bass Bandit with stick steering and 25hp Evinrude.

I know that's true. My mom was a teacher too, but it was elementary so I was free from that by high school.

Just so you all don't think I was a total ass, I was already accepted to the University of California, so even though I missed a ton of school, it no longer mattered.  But I care about education and have a couple of professional degrees to prove it. So the lesson isn't to cut school, but rather to only do it if it won't affect your permanent record.  BTW, you can tell which UC campus I graduated from based on the colors of my avatar cycling jersey!

I went to high school back in the late 70's.  Back then my dad would get off a couple of days around the end of March / first of April for a company holiday.  I would skip school on a Friday and Monday and we would go down to Lake of the Ozarks for the weekend.

1st grade i left at lunch one day to catch frogs and eels down at the crick. i had no concept of time, or a watch, but i knew if i wasn't home by 5:30 there would be hell to pay from my dad.  after what seemed like a reasonable amount of time, i went home, and washed up.  i went to dinner with the other kids in my family, everything seemed normal.  that night before bed, my mom called me down stairs and said "your teacher called and asked why you didn't come back to school after lunch". i told her i got in a fight and was knocked out. when i came to, school was over, so i just went to play. of course they called me on it. i was punished for it.  i was a little wild child.  i was always doing stuff like that.  i jumped out the window one day just to see what it was like.  it was the first floor, and only about 6' off of the ground.  i cut school to go fishing lots of times over the years.  i didn't own a pole until i was a teenager. i just scrounged the bank till i found some line and a hook. i'd dig some worms, use a piece of stick for a bobber.  i've been fishing the same stretch of crick for about 50 years

Heck yeah I skipped school to hunt and fish.  I am a teacher myself now.   I have also skipped some graduate school classes to fish.  My grades have always been solid and I am currently in the process of getting another masters degree.   In these classes we are studying the neuroscience of brain development and trauma induced brain deficiencies.  It is proven in recent years with new MRI equipment that socialization and challenges/adventures outside the classroom actually improve learning (yes, even ridiculous standardized test scores, which are worthless).   So don’t feel guilty if you skipped school to be with friends or have outside adventures (it has also been proven that being outside for just 10 minutes will increase brain function).   Get outside, enjoy adventures, and make friends you enjoy being with.   Your brain will thank you!!!

High school was 4 years that should've been 1.5 years, so much wasted time. Actually got there an hour before school started and pumped iron(for free) or run the track and then walked my now wife to class and if it was a day that ended in Y there was a 11.639% chance I'd leave and go fishing, hunting, or shooting. Monday's were often skipped because my Grandpa was off work.

I never skipped. My dad was self employed at the time, and I remember many occasions where he would check me and my brother out of school early to go fishing if the weather was nice.  He'd roll up to the school with the boat hooked to the truck. haha  

 

He isn't self employed anymore, but we actually work for the same company so we will occasionally sneak away from work and hour early so we can fish a Wednesday evening tournament.

I never cut school. Between hockey and baseball I played sports year round, and if we were not present at school in the morning we could not practice or play in games after school.

 I never skipped school . Unless I was truly sick I went every day . Perfect attendance were the only awards I ever earned .

Once I got to be old enough to go on my own, I cut probably 3-4 times a year. Most definitely on opening day of trout season. Others too. Part of the reason I graduated HS with a C+ average.

I’m a Junior in high school. I would never cut school just to go fishing (it’s my favorite thing in the world to do, but I value my education and I’d like to have a future). Still, last year in virtual “learning”, I would get out of the house the second school ended to fish the creek by my house. It’s filled with smallmouth. They’re not big, but they fight pretty darn hard. Many good memories were formed last spring/summer.

Grew up too close to Tennessee River and tribs not to take off from school to fish.  Heck, isn’t that why it used to be called  “playing hooky”?   

Well it’s been Over 30 years but cut school for more than fishing ???

When I was a Sr in High School our school went to a block schedule, meaning we only had 4 classes a day for an hour and a half each period. My first hour I was a teachers aide for my basketball and baseball coach. He told me not to worry about showing up. I would pick my GF up before school and drop her off at school at 7:45 and then go hit the local ponds for an hour or so. I did this as many days as the weather allowed. Not necessarily skipping, but not being at school.

Our HS backed up to an estuary, and was 6 blocks from the beach, so yeah...

I wasn’t that great at school.  When I finally landed in college the final time I didn’t skip a thing.  I focused on school and got it done.  I had to go back a “final“ time when I begged the Dean to give me another shot.   It was because I skipped school and fooled around.  
 

there’s time to have fun later.  Best move I made was to go back and finish. 

Guilty. We lived a quarter mile from the river. So yea it was pretty easy 

Might be skipping school for prefishing next weekend.  My mom wasn’t all to happy about the idea, so we’ll see...

Be proactive and ask for the work early.
