Might just pass on TW, it was only a $7 difference any way.

I don't care if they hack my credit card, debit card, or take my house.  I just want to get my tackle before my wife comes home from vacation.

facebroke is a scam in itself.

  • Seems there are so many scams on the interwebs these days. And if you send me $29.95, I'll tell you how to avoid them. ?? A-Jay

Don't have Paypal?

"Looking at some other forums it seems the stolen card #s were still being used as of Dec 9th. Latest claim I've found anyways, and I didn't look very hard. "

Last Sunday for me.  12/19/21

I've had Wells Fargo also cover me the few times something like this has happened. Never an issue, never a problem at my end with their service.

You know it Dude.

My card was one of the one's nailed. Got an email regarding it today but the card was already cancelled due to over $2,600 in three fraudulent charges.

I think this is the second time my card has been comprised at Tackle Warehouse. They need to seriously upgrade their security game.

Agreed.

I ordered from them last year and this happened.

Only two times I've had to cancel my card and get a new one...was days after the two times I ordered stuff from TW.

Use Paypal.  Most on-line sellers allow it and by using it the seller never sees your card info.  Of course Paypal could get hacked, but Paypal also has a feature to protect you from a scam.

You guys can get as ticked off as much as you want at TW,  but buying on

line is not as safe as going into a sporting goods store and paying cash.  You already knew that.  So deal with it.  All this complaining and I don't think I remember one person posting who wasn't covered by his card company.

We should make this forum a "no whining zone."

It's worth it to have for these types of transactions. No funny business. Good for buying and selling privately too. Nobody on the other end ever sees your card info so there's nothing to steal. Also, often there's no need to log into sellers sites to buy stuff. Just hit the PP icon in the cart, confirm, and off you go.

I’ll be using my debit card.

Never use a debit card online. Ever.

Not whining when commenting that, after a series of hacks, TW needs to up it's security game.

I still order from them, BTW, but in the future I will probably go through PayPal for the added level of protection.

I don't see any "whining", I see an informative thread. I see fair criticism and concern. If this thread gets out of hand it will be locked by moderators, and I'm sure this is a tricky situation for the staff here. We all know they are a site sponsor. But because of that, if people here weren't allowed to discuss this as we are, fairly and non-hysterically, that wouldn't be fair to us. I wouldn't have known about this if not for this thread. My opinion.

TW must be handing out gift cards to some people.

That's what makes it not the best place to have an honest conversation about the situation.

That’s what I do most of the time anyways. Although rarely do I use cash.

I’m with ya. Last week actually was the first time someone has gotten a hold of my card number. I got a text from my bank asking if I made a purchase of $.37 at a photography store in Kanas. I replied no and the immediately shut down the card. Same thing happened to the wife three weeks ago.

After talking with the fraud department with my bank they lady said this is the crooks MO is get a card number try a tiny purchase under $1 and see what happens.

Our bank seems to be pretty on top of things. When we started using Walmart pick up two years ago they were asking if we made the purchase because it shows Arkansas when we’re in Michigan. Any time there’s suspicious activity they notify us. It can be a PITA but this is actually the first time in 10 or so years with them someone has actually gotten our card numbers. Not bad I’d say.

Eight pages of this proves otherwise. I appreciate being able to discuss this here and I don't see anyone holding back their honesty. Flippant comment ignored.

Be as honest as you'd like. Nobody is holding you or anyone back. Our partners have thick skin.  They're big boys.

The moment somebody makes it personal, or gets upset and angry, or starts taking jabs at other members, then that's when the moderators step in.

Treat others with respect, that's all I ask.

Well like I said, they're not the scammers and shouldn't be called the scammers. They run an honest business and have for years. I've never once had a problem with TW. I never even had the shipping delays due to Covid that a lot of people experienced. However, their system/security is obviously incompetent, and the fact that they knew about this since the middle of October and just admitted it and didn't tell people until December is dishonest and shady; of course Black Friday and Christmas sales would be the logical reason as to why, so it would appear that making a buck was the priority and not customer safety. There is absolutely no need for some people to blindly support all things TW and excuse this. Multiple things can be true: that TW isn't a scammer business and TW is not innocent.

So you are ok with TW having an issue and knowing about it for months, not changing their security or card handling service, and not informing consumers to watch their cards? That is what bothers me. Had we known about the issue we could have found a safer way to order, or yes maybe another site. Yes my credit card company caught it, but I was without a card for 5 days. I only carry 1 credit card and 1 debit card. So not having a credit card for 5 days was a PIA. We now learned that my wife’s card has a feature to get a one time use number, we will use that in the future.

I like TW.  I've ordered from them twice, and will probably do so again in the future.

However, I won't use my CC or debit card.

The fact they waited months to disclose the data breach so they could still cash I on Black Friday though...was kinda crappy of them.

Fact?

Let's not let armchair quarterback speculation somehow become "fact".  It's possible they weren't aware of it until now.  Or some other reason. Not sure.

But what we DO know, is that we don't know what caused the delay, nor can anyone speculate as to some sort of devious motivation where there is lack of of said explanation.  Making up stuff doesn't cover up the FACT that we do not know what caused the delay.

They knew about it oct 15th.

Ever hand your card to a waiter and have it taken to the back room?  Probably more risk than dealing with reliable vendors on line.

Here's the best I could find on the difference in getting your CC vs DC # hacked, from Nerd Wallet.

"The real difference between a debit card and a credit card when it comes to fraud is in how you get your money back. When a fraudulent transaction occurs on your credit card, you have lost no money. You can report the fraud, get a credit on your statement, and the issue will never affect your bank account.

With a debit card, your bank account balance is affected from the moment the fraudulent transaction takes place. If the transactions are significant, you could experience a domino effect of financial headaches. Fraudulent charges can tie up funds so that legitimate charges are declined or cause overdrafts."

"Ever hand your card to a waiter and have it taken to the back room?  Probably more risk than dealing with reliable vendors on line. "

Sure have and had the bogus charge on my account 2 days later. Recently had my Suntrust card charged with almost $5000 by the Jamaica Custom Agency or somesuch nonsense. Bank caught it same day.

I'm not new to compromised bank cards. I have always been notified of the breach as soon as they knew; if I didn't catch it first. This is a different situation. They lost 1.8 million customers' info and didn't do much for the customers in a timely manner that I can see.

TW notified me a week shy of 3 months later that my personal info and credit card info had been exposed.

The government of the state of Vermont (and other states as well) knew about the security breach before TW sent me an email a couple of days ago.
