I don't care if they hack my credit card, debit card, or take my house.  I just want to get my tackle before my wife comes home from vacation.

facebroke is a scam in itself.

  • Seems there are so many scams on the interwebs these days. And if you send me $29.95, I'll tell you how to avoid them. ?? A-Jay

No problems with TW here.

Last week Suntrust refused to pay $4958.00 charged to my Visa card. They didn't even ask me, they let me know later. I've been with them since '75. They overnighted a new card. Nice of them.

Oh, almost forgot. The attempted charge was to the...

Jamaica Customs Department.

Fwiw, the real one is the Jamaica Customs Agency

Suntrust blocked an attempted charge for $400 on cash app on my debit card this week and sent me a new card. I don’t even use cash app.

He got me cracking up on another thread earlier. I wonder if he does live shows?

I’d like to thank @king fisher for existing and for being a part of BR, lol. You’ve had me crack up quite a few times too, @TnRiver46

So, even if this happened, Tackle Warehouse isn't a "scam". They aren't the first and won't be the last to be hit by hackers trying to steal people's money.

I must get a dozen texts and emails a day in reference to purchases I did not make.  When this started, I called the number and quickly discovered they were after my bank account info.  I also get calls from people who leave messages on my phone stating that I owe them money when I don't. I have even received emails from my own bank what were fake.  These are all phishing attempts out to steal my money.  Never ever open an email with an attachment unless you know exactly who it came from and what it is in advance.

When I buy tackle online, I use PayPal.   If a merchant doesn't accept PayPal, I don't do business with them.   Using a debit card online is courting disaster.  I have made a number of purchases recently from Tackle Warehouse and have yet to have a problem.

This thread reminds me of the modern media.  Hyped up headlines based on hearsay.

"Tackle Warehouse Scam (You WON'T BELIEVE this!) (World Record!!)"

Nothing out of the ordinary on my end despite multiple recent TW orders. Knock on wood in case there was a data breach, but I think naming TW in this seems premature with nothing other than hearsay.

My VISA was compromised. No TW purchases in months.  Declined charges in Orlando and Jacksonville Florida. Fraud service called and my card cancelled. The attempts were on site.  That’s most likely cloning.  Frustrating.

Holy cow there’s more misinformation in this thread than a political update on COVID.

Where do I even begin

Just received my 2nd TW order in 10 days. No problems. Remember if you heard it on the internet / Facebook it’s gotta be true. ?

When my TW order gets here this week I'm going to tell my wife my account got hacked and someone ordered those baits and shipped them to me but I might as well keep them,  you know, since they're already here. Getting a refund and shipping them back will be a hassle anyways.

I heard there was a scam going on when ordering off tackle warehouse during Black Friday. Hackers were  taking large amounts of money from bank accounts. I saw it on Facebook. Check your bank accounts.

yes same thing happened to me and I received one email from TW which said they accept my order and they going to ship it to me :D

I can walk into a store and buy all my fish hooks! It’s wonderful

That would be wonderful! It's been many years since I've had a decent tackle store close to home.

Fraudulent activity spikes this time of year, since many are making lots of purchases, creating opportunity both in scraping card info and sneaking smaller charges by in hopes no one notices.  Regardless, this isn't unique to TW, but it is a good reminder to review your accounts and implement safeguards.

Well I am glad I read this and at the same time thankful my card is fine. If this is a thing wonder how many were tied to the early opening email if any? Clicking on email links can be a bad thing unless you truly trust the source. Not saying that's what happened though and not trying to spread bad info, just curious after having seen an email link bite somebody, not us thankfully.

There wasn't anything in any email originating from them. Criminals can only read insecure email, not actually insert malicious links or code into them. They can also try to mimic legitimate email messages, just like all the fraudulent "Azure account info has been updated" emails I have getting the past few weeks.  Your friend either received a random email from a bad actor or was on a contact list of someone that clicked a link in an email from a bad actor.

I've gotten to the point where I'm buying a visa gift card at a local stor and using that for online purchase. If there is a breach, whatever is left on the gift card usually isn't enough of the hassle to try and recover.

Anytime I hear someone mention any type of information with the words Facebook attached to it I automatically dismiss it and then never take  that person  seriously afterwards.

Exactly! One of the main reasons I'll never have a facebook account.
