They look amazing. How do you like the rubber skirts on them? I’ve only ever tied silicone for spinnerbaits ?

Those actually are silicone skirts but I do tie some of my big spinnerbaits with rubber skirts. I like the rubber because it billows out so much and gives a really big profile on the big spinnerbaits but it also rots and sticks together really bad if you're not careful.

It does get nasty fast lol. In my experience atleast. Wow I would have swore those weren’t silicone

Try some Starflash skirts, they flare like round rubber but don't melt.

Shooting star.jpgIt's a 3/16oz football head. Original was a discontinued Hayabusa tungsten head I made a mold of. The Hayabusa heads are crazy expensive if you can find them( $15 for 3).

do you have any of those to get rid of? i've had good luck with the jewel pee wee football, but would prefer a weedgaurd instead of the single wire on the jewel

I would have to pour some more of them once I get my mold back. A buddy borrowed a bunch of my molds.

i'd just make your buddy do it since you were nice enough to loan him the mold :)

Here’s the latest. 7” fat belly shad. Just a shad type pattern, no real “theme”.

Nice work @Smirak !

Thank you! Gonna go toss it around tomorrow at Guntersville and see if anyone likes it enough to choke it…

Something different I want to experiment with. Underspins are 1/8 and 3/16 with 1/0 hooks. Bottom is a mini bladed jig that I plan to try with small minnows.

Hair and living rubber jig I am working on. I still suck at tying hair jigs and need to find my small weedguards.

That color scheme would be killer in my region. Mid and upper Columbia River smallmouth would crush it Allen.

I’ve been crushing the bass up here in Mid-Michigan on spinner baits the last 2 weeks. I’ve probably landed close to 12-14 fish on spinner baits.

Originally 2-3 yrs ago I had started dabbling in making my own spinner baits. I made a couple of baits and then life happened and the project got shelved.

Late winter/early spring I started purging old tackle. Looked in the spinner bait box that hadn't been opened in 2-3 yrs and saw dull and rusted hooks and blades. The spinners in the box were old, used, beat up and rusting . Decided I needed to start over so I just tossed everything ( 10-12 spinner baits)

Started pricing out new spinner baits out and they have gotten pricey. A decent spinner bait is $12-$15 now. Honestly, spinner baits from what I can tell have probably went up in price more than most the other tackle. So I resurrected building spinner baits again. Most of what I have build have been from buying pre painted bodies and a couple kits.

The 3 are the first ones that I’ve painted using the badger spray powder gun that I bought 3-4 yrs ago. They came out pretty good I think. I used the gun to paint the bodies all white and then used the make up brush tap technique to apply the green pumpkin on top. I also used a light application of sparkle glitter on the whole body of the spinner bait. I used 1 water melon green skirt tab for the top skirt and 1.5 real shad skirt tab for the bottom. I think the top 2 need bigger eyes but, that’s what I had on hand. It’s kinda a Tennessee shad color but, looks really natural in clear weedy lakes. I have boughten and caught fish on similar spinner baits.

Here are 2 new spinner baits that I have painted up and built. I recently purchased some pearl white powder paint and I have been messing around with it. These are 1/2 oz chartreuse and pearl white with a #6 Colorado blade. I made one silver blade and one brass blade.

I used my powder air brush to first paint the entire spinner bait white, than shot the pearl, brush tapped chartreuse on the top and the sides, and than hit the sides with more pearl to blend in the sides.

So far I like the results. This is the first time I’ve used flat eyes as I don’t have any 3d eyes the correct size . They don’t look bad. Stick on lure eyes are one of the components that have just went sky high in price. The flat stick on eyes are expensive but, the 3d eyes are outrageous priced.

I’m really considering buying a spinner bait mold this winter. I am still catching fish on spinner baits. Everyone is throwing bladed jigs and now it’s the spinners baits time to shine.
