I’ve read that people carry 4 plus jig rods how is this possible what would be the advantage to this?

I have to assume it's possible because they put them on their boat.

 

Pitching/flipping jig rod

Skipping jig rod

Casting jig rod

Finesse jig rod

Heavy cover jig rod

 

The possibilities are endless. I've never before seen the super specific number of 4.

By carry I meant bring onto the boat more often than not. Was just curious if it was different line size or for pitching and one dragging I just can’t figure out a reason behind four jig rods unless all are same action and don’t want to retie

I keep 2 mh and 2 h jig rods in the boat all of the time.

At the moment there's 5 in the rod locker. NRX 893 AND 894 . Falcon Amistad and Lizard Dragger and a Virtus/Jewell Finesse jig rod.

But, They also are used for Worm rods, Brush hogs , C-rigs ect.

Yup. Different lineup here, but the same approach. Usually 8-10 rods on the deck, at least 4 are MH or H, and often 5 or 6. Jigs, Trigs, Stupid Tubes, Swim Baits, Spinnerbaits, Buzzbaits......

As you can see each rod for one specific presentation, to your question..jigs,

is set up for different conditions with a different type of jig in different weights, trailers, line type, color and size. 

And yes, each rod could be different but not necessarily 

 

The advantage is that it’s more efficient

One rod works. So does 6. Jigs is a pretty broad category between all the jig styles nowadays.

 

Biggest advantage I can see to carrying more than one rod with a technique is your ability to have different lure weight ranges to throw on different rods. Not entirely necessary, but as others said, it adds convenience

Depending on time of the year & body of water, usually 1, sometimes 2. 

 

I have a "light" jig rod that I throw 1/4-1/2 oz jigs around light to sparce cover.

 

I have a "medium" jig rod that I throw 3/8-3/4 oz jigs around heavier cover & deeper water.

 

I have a "heavy" jig rod that I throw 3/4-1.5 oz jigs when punching or depths to 35'.

 

I flip, pitch, cast, skip, swim with one rod & one jig.

Whats the difference between your “light” and “medium” jig rods? Are they both MH, one on the light side and one on the heavier side? 

I don't have a jig rod.  I choose rods based on what I'm going to do with it not what I'm throwing.  The rod requirements for a 1/4 oz jig will usually be the same as a 1/4 t-rig but will be different than for a 3/4 oz jig.   I've never understood the logic of specifying a rod as a jig rod unless you're a rod manufacturer where it's in your best interest to sell as many different 7 ft MH rods as possible.

 

So being free to use rods for different purposes,  if I'm on a good jig bite today I might return tomorrow with four jigs tied on four identical rods.  This would save me some time retying.  It will also allow me to fish different trailers and colors side by side.

When I had my boat I carried 7 rods used for jigs, 3 custom ALX; 1 ea 5 power/F and 2 ea 6 power/F, all 6’10”, Fenwick Techna AV 7’ MHF Lamiglas Titanium 7’ HF. Plus IROD IRG754F 7’5” utility rod used with braid heavy cover on the Delta or Clear lake. MJ Slash-It MF ultilty rod for 3/16-1/4 oz jigs 

ALZ 5 used with Jigs w/soft plastic trailers, the 6 power for hair jigs w/different color trailers. Always had the 3 on the deck except at night only 1 rod out.

Carried 15 - 20 combos in my boat ranging from 8’ Swimbait casting to 6’6” finesse spinning. 

Now I use 3-4 combos as a back seater, 1 ALX custom jig rod is always ready to fish jigs, my favorite technique.

I will use up to 4 (5 if you count a bladed jig rod), three casting and one spinning.  Each have a different reel, line and situational purpose but I can use most these setups for T-rigged soft plastic as well.

And a couple of Zbones

 

I usually have 5-6 different jigs tied on.  Most of my jig rods are heavy action but half have fluoro, the other half have braid. 

4 total 

 

1 - with an actual jig (usually 1/2 oz)

 

1 - 3/4oz Texas rig with 80lb braid for heavy weeds

 

1 - 5/8 texas rig with 65lb braid for mediumish weeds

 

1 -  5/16 oz texas rig for open water

I have a h/f rod that I use for punching, and a mh/f that I use for everything else.  Most of the time the type of jig I am going to be fishing with will depend on the depth, structure, and cover in the water.

Exactly. I carry 4 crankbait combos so I can cover the whole water column in an area without the need to constantly change out baits. 

This year I will have 15 BC combos, 6 I will never tie a jig on and 1 that is always a jig.  That leaves me 8 that can and will serve as an excellent jig rod for a specific case/circumstance based on type, depth, preferred rod  length, and what other presentations that I thought would be successful that day.

Wow!  I doubt I will ever have that many rods dedicated to one technique.  I will tie a spinnerbait on most of my rods, but they aren't designated spinnerbait rods.
