I’m dying to see this picture as I’m in the Chicago land suburbs?. Send picture to your gallery then hit add files when you reply to choose the picture which I found posts best on large or medium size when asked just not actual size?

That's the invisible hybrid, an invasive species rarely seen.

It’s a shy town bass! ?

Fish probably got shot before he could get a good picture

I've got a friend that catches those all of the time.  He calls them 9 lb. bass.  Somehow, he always has his scales with him, but never his camera phone.

Omg, so sorry everyone. I totally forgot to send the pic! I gotta find it now, then I’ll send.

Dang it! I can’t freakin find it now. Which tics me off. It was an odd looking fish caught in a local pond. It looked like it was a cross between a carp and a shiner. Was 13” long. Lacked the barbells of a carp, but had the golden scales of one. And it was far too big to be a shiner.

I know pretty much all freshwater fish in the area really well. But I have never seen this one. It looks like something that should have been in the river.

Here it is, I finally found the photo! It’s actually not 13” like I originally said. I hadn’t seen the photo in a while. I guess it’s a “Striped” Shiner.

This came across my feed today, and I remembered this thread. Maybe not a perfect match, but getting darn close (that is, I’m guessing a related type shiner).

Whoa, it looks pretty darn close. Like you said, it’s definitely in the family. I sure wish I knew where I could consistently locate them, cause I’d be using them for bait for sure.

@Otter17,

Interesting fish, thanks for sharing.

I found this:

https://dnr2.illinois.gov/Biodiversity/SearchBD

You can search for fish, reptiles, plants, etc. for Illinois.

And thank YOU Bass302 for sharing that link!
