My male German Shepherd. 125 pound. His name is Sabot. His favorite thing is going for rides and hanging his entire big head out the window IMG_1182.jpeg.7da401c5cb912983c0b3ca1c1a55f16a.jpegIMG_1436.jpeg.9d06d3fbeb94bb7a731a28ede0e5a388.jpeg😂

The horse. I see her everyday, she got out and I called twice and ran her home, she ran right back thru the open gate. Too funny!

Does anyone here have any experience with a Librela injection for their dog?

Cosmo was diagnosed with arthritis in her back legs this past July. I was given medication options or this injection to combat the problem. I tried Gallaprant for a month and didn’t see any noticeable results.

She is showing more signs of weakness in her back legs and I’m worried she may not be able to pheasant hunt this season. I am going to contact the vet this week about the Librela. I have read good things about it from users online, but it would be nice to hear something from a member here.

I tried taking cosmo pheasant hunting a day last week and she cannot do it anymore.  The legs and endurance are gone.  She would slowly just walk next to me or lag behind.  It was sad.  I kinda teared up a little out there.

I am going to try again when it gets colder with some moisture on the landscape to see if that helps.  Last week when I went it was warm, sunny, and very dry, which probably didn't help.

It is tough to see your hunting partner of 14 years deteriorate in real time.  We have combined for 250-300 roosters, mostly just me and her.  If I am able to put any pheasants in the bag this season, it will be a success.

That's tough ~

Pretty sure there've been other signs, and you sort of knew where this was headed.

Cosmo's 98 in dog years.  That's a lot of miles on those legs, hips, knees, and elbows.

Not sure a weather change will be the answer.

She's been a rockstar for a long time.

And you guys have made so many great memories together.

Give her a treat for us . . .

Thanks @A-Jay

It's a difficult situation that I've never encountered.  We still raised 20 birds at the 2 spots.  I can't really leave her at home.  She would be devastated if I did that to her.

Perhaps it's time for a new puppy.

Then Cosmo can help train the youngster.

This sucks - your pheasant trips with Cosmo are always my favorite posts of the year. Hard to watch them age. Hopefully Cosmo’s got one more rooster in her. I agree with AJ - she might need a pup to teach how to take care of you…

I’m going to revive this thread with the introduction of our new foster puppy who we received on New Year’s Eve afternoon after dealing with German Shepherd Rescue which is where our 2 previous rescue German Shepherds came from. The irony is my daughters best friends aunt volunteers with them and it was her and my daughters best friend who helped facilitate this faster than we anticipated. His name is Viko (wife named him) and he’s a Sable colored German Shepherd who was brought into Chicago Animal Control Center via the Chicago Police Department with his 2 sisters and they were euthanizing for space at CACC😢 Needless to say my wife and I would have taken all 3 if needed but thankfully his sisters were also pulled by GSR and fostered as well. He clearly lived a hard life on the Chicago streets and when my wife, son and myself picked him up he literally smelled like he lived in a dumpster but is the sweetest boy with really good manners so far although our 2 cats would probably disagree. Our plan all along after losing Steve was/is to rebuild our pack with 3 rescues and this is the start. 3103557207176912400.jpeg.3f2d9610f7c70da7c0a46d4307793813.jpegIMG_5530.jpeg.9b1543058a63dff55c7d22f44669347f.jpegIMG_5535.jpeg.0c52730ff2117ec90d0dc94c03572df1.jpegIMG_5544.jpeg.0d768c7b6dcd2843e175776f9464b524.jpeg

Oh my goodness that is one of the cutest pictures I’ve ever seen 😃 And knowing cats I’m sure they won’t let you slack in your duties either 🤣

I love it when dogs pop their heads up and have an ear all funky. It’s the dog version of bed head.

This one made me laugh out loud 😆🤣 Such a serious look as well 😉

Here is Bruno, my 4 year old Australian Shepherd.

And then here is bolt, my 6 year old border collie/lab mix. I’m not sure if you can tell, but they are very different dogs. Bolt 1.jpg

Bless all of you that have taken on Australian Sheperds, my wife’s friend and her husband had one back when I was in my late 20’s early 30’s and I had a lot more patience and energy than I currently have and even then I was like 😬Absolutely beautiful dogs and well behaved but man that energy level 🤯

LOL. We go for a daily walk and play friscbee about 6000 times per day. He thinks that’s his job.

Congrats! What an awesome dog. We used to have a Shepherd lab and he was a great dog.

I’ve always been a dog person because that’s what I grew up with, but I work long and weird hours so here’s Harper, I’ve had her for a bit.
