That's us today, Kent - we topped out at a whopping 9 degrees.

Petition the governor for a pardon, whatever you were convicted of in 1974

should be forgiven.

  • Man that looks so comfy too ~ Not Familiar with winter ? OK, so it's pretty intense. Sort of like mudslides, wild fires, earth quakes, sink holes, flash floods and even land sides.

Same here for last night and all day today. Our power went out about 9:30 last night, crazy winds here. Still off now. I had to snowblow a trail from the barn to the house just to drag the generator o

and it’s right around the freezing mark

Its gotta be the heavy wet heart attack snow then.  That's what we had earlier this week.

Normal snow has a water ratio of 12 inches snow = 1 inch of water.  The stuff we had earlier this week was about 3 to 1.

It’s just below freezing so todays and last nights was fluffy. The 8” we got on Friday was definitely heart attack snow.

Early predictions from the local weather guessers are saying “blizzard like conditions for Christmas weekend”.

Starting Friday, 40-50 mph winds, and snow totals in the teens. Temps in the low teens too.

Again, still too early to clear the bread and milk aisles but it could be interesting towards the end of the week.

Past couple of days we've accumulated about 10 inches or so.

Plan on cleaning that up today

because it looks like there may be a more significant

snow event over next weekend and into the following week.

Like 2 feet plus, all said and done.

Some clean up now and then some later

will be a bit better than waiting and doing it all at once.

And now we got this latest update.

By late this week we're going to have daytime high temperatures around 30 degrees and nighttime temperatures in the low to mid teens.

That's fine for where a grew up in Connecticut, but I live in Georgia now and I am vehemently opposed to cold weather.

It was cold yesterday and I could not get warm all day, especially my feet. So I had to go on Amazon and purchase some emergency slippers. I'm getting prepared, though. I went to the grocery store and bought ingredients for chili and beef stew for the rest of the week.

Ya - I'm getting all the errands done by mid-week before we plunge into the deep freeze for the weekend.

Santa better be wearing his long-undies when he hits here.

Yup! I'm getting to be an old man and I get chilly.

I'll probably wear out the bottoms in a few months shuffling my feet across the floor.

Old? Dude, you gotta be 60+ to be considered 'old'. (I'm there - ?)

Give them some credit, they’ve seen skim ice on a mud puddle once or twice in their lives. ?

The audacity of some in this thread, I fished in 45degree weather today, where's my merit badge Yanks?

Seriously though it's gonna be as cold as it likely gets all year on XMAS Eve, and XMAS here.   I hear pretty much the entire CONUS will under freezing conditions....South Texas, many parts of Florida, most of all AL, GA, MS etc.

But then look at that juicy week of 60 degree weather, that's how I will make it through the incredible difficult times to come ?

I'd take that over what we're gonna get.

I'd be dead, just put a fork in me.    Southerners just can't take that level of cold seriously, and likewise Northerners can't take the humid 100+ summers down here.

That type of cold makes you tough as nails though, I grew up visiting in the winter my Grandparents in Dayton Ohio, I was either freezing to death, or burning up alive in the back of his Buick or his house ?

To be fair, I couldn’t handle too many 100* humid days. It gets pretty humid here but rarely gets to 100. The older I get the less tolerant of the cold I am, probably because I’ve worked outside for almost 20 years.

I’ve said it before, you can dress for the cold, you can’t for the heat. I’ve been sweating and taking layers off in single digit temps before.

This summer was as bad as I can remember in a really long time.    The nights during June and July especially make it oppressively hot like heavy snow would make it oppressively cold.   Day or night, you simply can't get a respite from it.

You're right about the layers thing, but we are just flat out stupid in the South when it comes to cold weather preps, driving, and clothing.     I don't even own serious cold weather clothing, and I'm having to buy all new stuff since I'm fishing this winter.       You guys are pros at freezing conditions, we'll buy every last loaf of bread for a hundred miles if so much as a snow flurry falls ?

We don't have the ability to clear the roads obviously either, but still people act so stupid the news stories keep rolling for weeks after these "snow events".

As a boy we did get a 2.5' Blizzard.  March of 93 IIrc.   It was a historical storm.

Yep - you can always put more on - there's a point you can't take anymore off...modesty be damned.

We're about to get hit with a big winter blast tomorrow.  5-18" of snow and below freezing daytime temps for several days.  Where I shoot videos: -2 overnight with windchills of 30 below.

It's headed your way folks.  Probably going to hit you on Christmas!  It will be warmer and raining by then in my neck of the woods.

Regarding hot temps, I can take up to 120 in a dry heat.  Humid, I can do about 100.  I'd much rather be in a hot climate than cold any day of the week!  At least in hot weather you can still drive around and go fishing.  Not so much in ice and snow. 85-100 dry heat is my sweet spot!

You can keep that, pal. When it starts getting above 85, I start to wilt...at 90 I'm staying in AC as much as possible...at 95 you're not getting me out of the house - dry or humid.

Having suffered heat stroke twice and heat exhaustion once, I'm more susceptible to re-occurrences...so I do what I can to stay out of those situations.

  • BassResource.com Administrator

I've experienced heat exhaustion once.  My fault for not drinking enough water.  I haven't made that mistake again.  Especially after having a kidney stone - I drink lots of water now!! :)

Massive winter storm coming tomorrow to the region, followed by bitter cold and wind.  Some areas of northern Wisconsin are expecting 3-4 feet of snow.  I'm sure we'll get a good 6-8 inches here, maybe more, maybe less.  At least this time it will be the fluffy stuff and not the heavy wet ketchup.

Absolutely, been reading a bunch on these warm up periods we have in the South and what the fish do.      I'm going to start shallow after learning from the last one we had two weeks ago.   One successful pro down here breaks the top water out.    The thought of Top water is like thinking of a warm beach and Margaritas ?
