Winter is my busy season at work.  I don't have time for bass fishing, but at least I am on the water.  I sure wish I had some time off from work to fly north for some ice fishing.

  • I work on myself. I work with my own & foster dogs. I work on my tackle as needed. None of it's really work. A-Jay

Perhaps, though I’m nearly halfway thru life already and still enjoying having the single hobby

You can basically fish all year. I'm down for half the year.

I forgot this was one of those threads……

I like the idea of ice fishing, and watch it frequently on YouTube , just not sure I could walk out onto a frozen lake when push comes to shove

Not much fishing-related items this off season. Have some significant life changes so most of my time will primarily be spent with my Martin 000 guitar

Right now it would be a big sloppy mess because there are several inches of slush underneath the snow.  That slush isn't going to freeze all winter because the powder on top of it is insulating it from completely freezing.  I'm guessing that you won't see many vehicles out there this winter and the ones you do are boneheaded, just asking to get stuck.

There's enough safe ice to walk out there now, but its really tough walking.  And pulling a sled full of gear the whole time too.

Totally awesome idea! Used to spend lots of time with my Takamine until the kids started to come. Still grab her occasionally but durn them strings hurt tender fingers!

Winter is the next best time to fish here Spring being the best overall. I love fishing in the winter no deer hunters on the water. LOL Just me and a my buddy most times  with exception of a few more hardcore guys here and there. They don't like the temps going down but once stable or moving back up its ON.

In the extended off season up here, I usually get my gear in order for the upcoming year. That usually includes cleaning and lubing reels, swapping out hooks, and getting everything reorganized. I'll order tackle to replace what I'm low in stock on and find new things to try. I'll usually order things for the boat as well, even though I won't end up being able to work on it until I pull it out of storage in a few months. I usually try to edit some videos from the previous year as well and fill at least a few nights a week playing men's league basketball. This winter I'm hoping to continue with all of the above mentioned, but I'm also managing some DIY home renovations as well so we'll see what actually gets accomplished lol

I've got a couple things to do to the F-9 - Installing a jack-plate is the big one

Otherwise, reel maintenance is about it.

Winter is when I concentrate on my other main hobby - scale model building.

What type of scale models? Trains, cars, planes?

Mostly Sci-Fi with some X-Planes (I got a 1:72 XB-70 in the queue) and ships.

What's the purpose of a jack plate on the F-9?

Have you heard from @Deephaven lately?  He hasn't posted in a while.

I've the the 15" short transom but the 'Rude 25 I have is a long shaft...jack-plate is needed to bring the anti-cavitation plate to the proper depth.

Oh that's right now I remember you saying you couldn't find an outboard with a short shaft when you were looking.

It's too cold to fish, but not to get rigged for the next outing!

I forgot to add scale modeling to my earlier reply! I've got around 25 older NASCAR and local type late model stock cars to build. I'll probably get around to building two, maybe three before early spring.

To the four trucks at the local ramp this morning.   It’s seven degrees out there. Your level of devotion is greater than mine.  ice gon GIF

It's 9 degrees here but my daughter is at my dad's house and I have a little free time. I might need to go for about an hour until my guides freeze up and have me questioning my sanity.
