Between 6-8 on the kayaks, normally.

 I honestly don’t have a clue ‘cause I’ve never bothered to count them. 

Can't ever remember carrying more than 5 and on most trips, 2 will go unused.

What mostly happened was I salted away all the 'gas money'

I never had to use fishing from a canoe for 10 years  #paddlepower

And the round reels are 200D's and are easily one of my favorites.

I make excuses to fish them as much as I can.

LOL. Some dirt bag broke into my garage last summer and took about that many, (mostly bass and light fresh water) and you can't even tell. 

I keep about 12 in the boat compartment and will bring out only 6 at most on the deck at a time and typically only end up using 3 most of the day.  I pre-rig all 12 depending on what I THINK might work and backup plans if it doesnt.

 

If I'm traveling or bank fishing its either 2 or 3 at most. 

I own 8 but depending on where I’m going I’ll bring 6 that will cover pretty much everything I think I’ll need.

I like playing with my tackle. All my rods are rigged and re-rigged.  Pond trips generally only require one rod, occasionally two. For day trips to Pickwick 4-6, but on a big trip I carry them all in the truck.

 

Next trip to the river:

Had to pull the rods out of my old boat in Florida because of a big storm and found out my garage wasn’t much better.  I also stuck them here in Virginia in the garage in between trips since the boat lives outside.  I have my “still in the plastic sleeves” rods in the house waiting on their turn to enter the rotation.  Those number about 40.  Problem is that I’m not hard on my gear so the rotation is very very slow so most of them are new old stock now?

Have answered this question multiple times.  Currently have 7 rods less as a B-I-L broke the tip off a spinning rod, and stole (and sold for his drug addiction) 6 of the casting rods I had kept in Florida.  I'm blessed that he left me one to fish with on my visit.  Still have way too many rods at home.

 

I fish from shore.  If my wife rides along, I may take 6 rods with us.  If alone, I may take 10 rods.  Seldom am there long enough to use more than 3 rods.  Like several others, I hate retying while fishing.  Rods are all set up before leaving the house.

 

On a side note, the Bait Monkey won't be visiting me anytime soon as I just used my 401k money to purchase a place not far from my wife's family in Florida.  Need the extra help to care for my wife as she has Alzheimer's Disease and dementia with Lewy bodies.  Won't be working 40 hour weeks with 10 hour (minimum) drive time anymore, but will need a part-time job.

 

On the bright side, I will be getting more fishing time.  There's a catch and release body of water in the park (55 and older residents) a short walk away.  A B-I-L (10 minute drive away) is an avid bass addict so I'll have someone to fish with.  And in a boat, no less.     Should even be able to eventually fish with all the rods/reels I've purchased over the past few years.

Haha yes after quite the long absence. A few job changes and life hasn't left me with as much time as it used to, but I'm trying to carve out a little bit. Glad to see you're still hanging around here!

I have between 30-35 combos available to go , don't take that many as some of my combos are situational depending on lake type, anticipated conditions & seasonal considerations . Mid summer largemouth fishing is when I tend to stuff the boat locker the most which means the number of combos will number in the high teens or low 20's depending where I 'm going etc  . I've been fishing a while , so every year I add 2 or 3 combos and before you know it the boat is stuffed with more gear than I really need . 

On the yak I typically bring 5 rods for a half day trip. It’s generally all the techniques I’d get to.

a cranking/chatter set up 

a bottom contact jig combo

a senko set up 

and maybe something for top water or punching depending on the trip. 
 

Lately I’ve looked at my collection and find that I have over a dozen combos for different techniques but always want more. 
 

I just want to try more brands and variations. There are so many rods and reels to try. Not sure how you folks with 30+ set ups actually make it through them all but I fear I may join this club soon enough.  ? 

case and point, I’ve been hearing how great the NRX 873 is. I wonder how much more balanced is it vs my 894. I wonder if p5 Destroyer rods are really better than Exprides. 
 

 

This past season, I took 5 out on the kayak every time whether it was a tournament or a week night outing. 2 spinners and 3 casters, being from up north, I seeing the value in more spinning rods. I know that's not popular but most smallmouth tactics are ideal on a spinning rod: dropshot, wacky rig, ned rig, tube, jerkbait and topwater.

 

Dropshot, wacky and jerkbait are covered, I need another 7' MF & 7' 3" MF , a dedicated frogging/punch set up, texas rig and a cranking rod will flesh out the balance. So I'm looking at 8-10 on any given day, dropping a casting rod depending on the body of water.

     I run 15 rods in my kayak (PA14). I use a milk crate with three triple rod holders zip tied to three sides. The open side crate butts up to a Engel 19 cooler that has four rod holders on it, two per side.

The last two are packed horizontally in the rod holders down the sides (inside) the kayak.  I seldom use all 15 but very often I do use at least ten and sometimes all of them.

I’ve had as many as 15 in my boat, but that doesn’t do me any good. 5 or 6 is fine by me. I have a bunch of unused rods that need to find a new home.

I try to keep it around 10. I've gone through a lot of trouble to build my collection and bringing more just increases the chances of breaking one.

Bottom line is you only need 1 that is working at the time you are on the water.

The question know one can answer is which 1?

On the bank just one, usually spinning rod because of flexibility and have a casting rod in car for when I need it for some parts of the lake. I also just as much use one casting reel sometimes (a old bmax3) and have 3 spools for it, one 6lb nylon bfs, one 65lb braid, and one 12lb nylon. I plan on. Having a similar setup with my tatula soon as bulldog showed me a cheap spool for my tatula ct100

 

In a boat, generally 2-3, but I have different spools of line for my casting reels so often times only two, plus when family and friends are in a boat, it can get a little crowded fast and next thing you know rods are stepped on

 

All three spools take very little time to take out.

 

 

Take 5/6 normally in the kayak 3 spinning and 2 casting if I do take the 6th its usually another spinning rod.
