Hello from West Virginia

Featured Replies

I've lived in Marion County, West Virginia for the last 20 or so years.  I'll fish for anything, but river smallies are my favorite.  I'm mostly a wade fisherman, but also canoe and have a 1966 Grumman Sport Boat that I car top.  I've been a member forever and figured it was time to introduce myself.

Florida looks pretty good right now.  Barely a month into winter and I've already had my fill of snow.

Welcome to Bass Resources.

WV is such a great state for fishing, perhaps my favorite.

Small world! I grew up in the Bay Area and have family all up and down the Central Valley.  Lots of good memories fishing for trout in the Sierras, rock cod at the Farallons, and bass everywhere in between.  Caught my first fish at Don Pedro.

Hi! I also love wading and fishing from a canoe. I've owned a Grumman Sport Canoe too.

Welcome aboard! I believe you aren’t to far from stonewall Jackson. That is my favorite lake.

Yes indeed.  I'm pretty close, but haven't fished it for quite a while.  As a canoe and bank/wade fisherman I tend to focus on smaller water.

I always wanted to fish for those New River smallies, is it still a hotspot for River smallies?

I have limited time there. I can’t spend time burning all over the lake trying to find fish. I scoped out a few areas close to the resort side and it has paid off big. Areas you could have no problem paddling to.

I too would love to fish the new river.  For smallies and musky.

That's very helpful information.  I should give it another try this Spring.  I know it is a top spot, maybe the top spot, in the state for musky as well.

Most of that is a no wake zone as well.

Thanks!  There is just something magical about running water and smallmouth.  Haven't fished much in your part of the state but hope to make my way over there someday.

welcome.  I grew up about 80 river miles north of you right on the Mon (between lock 3 and lock 4).  Also a big fan of the stream smallies.  Lots of small to medium streams that flow into the Mon flood in the spring and the baitfish drag the smallies right up into them.  The mouths of those same streams hold tons of fish in the spring also.
