H2O Hooks?

Featured Replies

A lot of fans of Academy and their house brand gear here.

Anyone with any experience with H2O trebles or other hooks?

Wondering how good they are for the price.

I've used their straight shank worm hooks with zero issues.

I picked up some h20 flippin' hooks a while back.

  Seemed plenty sharp.

So have I.

I picked up a bunch of their jerkbaits last year and while I fished them sparingly the hooks feel like good quality and plenty sharp.  i didn't feel the need to replace them.

I have some H2O baits that have VMC on the box. I surmised this ment, equipped with VMC trebles. Brian.

Yes, the baits have VMC hooks. Their hooks are not VMC.

I bought a pack of H2O EWG hooks on clearance just to try them. I don't who makes them, but they seem pretty good to me.

Same experience as others.

I bought bulk packs of their worm hooks and EWG hooks and haven't had issues with either.

I've been using the EWG worm hooks for ~4-5 years now after switching from Gamakatsu. Very happy with them, they hold a point well and never had one bend.

I haven't tried the other hooks, though.

To me the least expensive terminal tackle you can use are hooks and the most important. why save a few pennies on hooks made who knows where with Quality Control unknown?

I've used their straight shank flipping hooks for a few seasons with no issues. I've never seen H2O treble hooks but I've used their EWGs also and didn't have any problems.

If you never tried any "name" brand how ya gonna know how good they are?

First time I heard of Gamakatsu, I'm like I ain't buying that Japanese crap!

Absolutely nothing with H2O products, caught more fish on their hollow bodied frogs than all dem high dollar ones.

I picked up a pack of H2O straight 3/0 shank hooks to try - found one hook completely broken in half in the pack . Upon looking at the two broken pieces closely , the metal just looked strange , jagged - almost like pot metal (not a clean break) ... *I'm with Tom here - after seeing that poor QC in the H2O hook pack I did not want to risk buying as I would always have that H2O broken hook image in my head . I never have seen a broken hook in the pack of Gamagatsu , Owner, Mustad or VMC before. Paying one or two dollars more for a pack of good quality hooks is not an issue when possibly hooking up with a personal best bass is concerned !

Makes me curious to know who makes hooks for Zman Ned Heads.  Had two of them break last year, one on a snag, the other on a very large fish of some kind.  Both broke about half way up the shank while tied to 6# fluorocarbon.  No more Zman Ned Heads for me;  no more hooks made by that manufacturer if I learn who it is.

I won't sacrifice quality to save a few bucks, personally. The potential fish of a lifetime is worth more than that to me, but if I can get a quality hook for a good price, why wouldn't I use it? The EWGs come in a 25 pack for $4.99 and they are every bit as good as the Gamakatsu Superline EWGs I used to use which come 4 or 5 to a pack for the same price.

I'm pretty much a Gamakatsu guy. That said, I have used Academy's H20 hooks and BPS hooks before with excellent results from both.

No issues using these H2O hooks.Sharp and strong

Their EWGs are all heavy gauge wire. At least that's all I've ever seen in stock. I prefer thinner wire myself, but other than that, they're good hooks.
