Have any of you spooled a spinning reel with 10lb Tatsu? If you did, how did it fare?

 

I have a few ideas on what I could do with this setup.

I haven't done it - but since it's at .010" diameter, it shouldn't be a problem

Depends on the spinning reel spool diameter, what size reel?

Very likely will spool on a size 2500 Shimano Sedona

Better off using 8# Tatsu, 10# should be OK if you use line conditioner and avoid any line twisting.

10# anything on reel smaller than 5000 and you can kill me now. 2500 = 6# Tatsu. 

^ Wimp - I run 8# InvisX (same diameter as Tatsu) on a 2500 without issues...KVD treated naturally.

spool up with a quality mono and save the $$ and the headaches.  It really does work just fine.  OK, FC fans, unload.

My most frustrating line experiences with spinning gear have come with 8# FC and 10# braid. Mostly manageability issues, FC just likes to lay in a straight line which is antithetical to spinning reels. The tiny braid liked to wind knot if I horsed a cast. I'm firmly in the 15-20# braid to 6-10# plastic line camp these days. 

I have a Tica 2500 spooled with 10-lb Tatsu. Capacity is perfect for a single-charge spool.  Fishes great - it manages this line perfectly, and the spool is too deep to lay fine braid - it will hourglass.

Okay let me pose some alternate ideas I have. 
 

What about 10lb Sunline Defier Armillo, same reel?

 

And then what about (some) 10lb fluoro, this time on a Daiwa JDM Zillion (baitcasting)?

 

I am not used to using this kind of line combination

I like both mono and fluoro and I use both

 

Edit: I guess it would help if I explain what I am primarily using this for, but y’all will probably call me insane and question my preference of fluoro. I want to use this for small spinnerbaits 

I'll chime in.  One reason to go with fluoro is to get the line sink, and is just about required in salt niches.  

Low-memory, higher grade fluoro tends to jump off the spool, and requires good manual bail technique, just as if you're fishing braid.  

(Toray Xthread is the best fluoro I've tried, balancing limp with low memory and toughness)

I fish short leaders on all my spinning tackle, mostly to add an abrasion end, and you can always take the approach of mono working line with a fluoro leader to gain the advantages of fluoro close to the hook.

He really does have some cool, and well thought out gear. 

 

And, if he told me he had commissioned a Swiss watch maker to produce a custom Geneva striped drive gear and mirror polished inconel lanolin impregnated worm gear that would yield perfect line lay for braid on that reel, I would 110% believe it.

I use 6lb Tatsu on all my spinning outfits.  I wouldn't have any other way.

11 lb Diefer Armilo is .011D and too much memory imo for 2500 size spinning reels.

Thank you all for your suggestions! I should have clarified up front what I was planning on using this for. Since I have small spinnerbaits in mind, I’m not willing to drop below 10lb test. For that reason and because of the concern some of you expressed over using 10lb on spinning, my current plan is to load my zillion with 10-12lb fluoro and do the work on baitcasting equipment. 
 

My primary spinnerbait outfit remains 15lb big game on a REVO Winch, Falcon Head Turner

    My experience has been Fluorocarbon in heavier tests like 8# and up and smaller 1000 - 2500 sized spinning reels do not play well together. The fluorocarbon especially after you first spool the reel loves to jump off the spool (feathering your casts with your free hand and manual bail closing is necessary).  The other thing I have experienced is when the line comes off of the spool during the cast it comes off in big loops and those loops slap against the rod as the line goes out (it's the stiffness of the Fluorocarbon that make the big loops) and that creates friction against the rod and it annoys me too.

I would do that too if it’s wasn’t for topwater and weightless finesse worms. I can’t go fishing without some line that floats 

I would suggest using a larger reel for 10# for best performance. I would say at least a 3000 size, but a 3500 or 4000 would be ideal. Most 2500s are rated for 10lb line which probably averages .011 or .012in, and Tatsu is a little thiner, so you can try it but I don't expect it to be ideal.
