RipzLipz
Anyone here making spinnerbaits & twisting the line ties like they did back in the day? I find the line constantly wraps around the R-bend & if unchecked the line eventually stretches & breaks.
cadman
I make the "R" bend spinnerbaits for friends, but for myself I like the twisted loop. 1
Super User Jig Man Posted November 27, 2023 Super User Share Posted November 27, 2023 The closed eye wire has gotten hard to find locally so I switched to the R wire. I have had good luck wrapping braid or floral wire around the R. Then I cover it with shrink tubing. 3
Siebert Outdoors
I have a few 3/4 and can make some if needed in smaller sizes.
looking45
No line tie worries for me. I switched from spinnerbaits to Underspins. They’re also easier to cast in the wind

I may take you up on that at some point. Appreciate the offer. No smaller than 3/8 for me. 1/2 is my typical daytime & 3/4+ for night. Basic colors for the most part. Currently recovering from a severe bait monkey attack last week so might be after recovery. 😉
detroit1
Thanks Jig Man for the shrink wrap tip. i've been doing the wire wrap but using 2 ton epoxy over it (while coating my paint job}.
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 28, 2023 Global Moderator Share Posted November 28, 2023 I like the closed eye also and buy the premade arms for pouring mine. Most people like the R bends, so I have those on hand, but for personal use, they're all closed eye when I pour for myself. I only make big ones, because those are the hardest to find in production. 1
Zcoker
The closed eye design is must where I fish, which is the Florida everglades. Most of the fish that hit these spinnerbaits out there are absolute monsters! I've only had one break on me and even at that I was still solid with the fish.
Carolina Pines
I just started making my own spinnerbaits about a year ago, I've been buying pre-cut wire from Ebay in 6" lengths and bending them myself. So far all of mine have been the typical R bend, but I think I might have just enough length to get a couple twists in for a closed eye design. I haven't had many issues with line wrapping but I do like idea of a closed eye much better.
1984isNOW
I think R bends catch a little less grass, if you're looking for a newbie to make you some relatively low cost spinnerbaits they'll be crude, but function perfectly and the fish won't notice the difference. You spinnerbait with trailer, trailer hook, both, or neither?
RipzLipz
@Kites R4 Skyfishing Sorry for late response, hadn’t checked for replies in a while. I usually have a trailer but no trailer hook. Not beating my chest, I just don’t lose many on spinnerbaits. Probably just jinxed myself there.
Super User Munkin Posted March 15 Super User Share Posted March 15 Anyone that can pour an R-Bend can pour a twisted bend frame. Generally I don't use the twisted frames except for heavier weights. In the past when I used then I found the line got tangled up around the twist on casts. Allen
