I think he has valid concerns about the direction of the sport.

When the most memorable moment from this tourney was Milliken eating quail eggs I think there is a problem.

To be fair watching a 8-10lb fish barely miss a Hinkle Shad from a 4k Drone view was incredible.

Milliken and a few others tried to deliver for the fans on the final day.   Walters mega bag came from spawners I think and yet almost no footage of it, and especially of the 9 he said broke him off.

I agree though, strolling a minnow in a scope fest simply isn't fan friendly any way you slice it.

  • I've always been an early adopter of tech in bass fishing...Since back when having a sonar unit at BOTH the console and the bow was a big deal.  Vertical 'video game' fishing on greyscale 2d sonar, GP

  • This may come as a shock to some of y'all but there are thousands of bass caught daily without FFS.   Some with stringer larger than what these Pros caught.

  • In regards to this past Bassmaster Elite series tournament..

I was on live chat via YouTube watching the tournament live all 4 days.. I’ve never heard so much negativity about a tactic as I did concerning FFS. 70% seem to hate it..

Milliken had a ton of fanboi’s on too!
It’s cool tech but it isn’t spectator friendly.

Thats what is referred to as the vocal minority. The people that don’t care don’t join the chat

Toledo Bend is in early pre-spawn. I talk to guys daily who live on the lake, fish almost every day & they are not seeing beds. If there's any beds they would be up north of Pendleton Bridge. Ain't seen or heard of any Pros that far north.

You are right. Personally I don't care for FFS at all but I 100% tuned in to watch Milliken. Guys got charisma and the fact that he came out swinging is just awesome.

Somebody must have forgot to tell the fish. Chris Johnston got a bed fish on camera and said on live “there’s bed everywhere”

Of course one Pro's word over rides everyone! And he certainly could not have been bull shitting!

Toledo Bend is on the board with ShareLunker #658! Join us in congratulating Tracy Adair of Hemphill for his 13.61pound catch of a lifetime. Done without forward facing sonar.

maybe it was an AI robot fish 😂

Kreiger was also bed fishin

c’mon Tommy, it’s late Feb on a 180,000 acre lake in the southern US. Warm sunny days in the 70s, full moon. You calling someone who caught a bed fish on film a BSer? Completely throwing out the notion a fish would make a bed? Thought I knew you better than that, you’re the guy that always told us bass are doing things you wouldn’t expect.

No sir I'm calling BS that the beds are everywhere.

If there are beds everywhere why wasn’t more than 2 or 3 guys fishing them?

Bassmaster showed Robert Gee was fishing near Indian Mounds while at the same time Zona was saying he was on the Louisiana side around the corner from Cypress Bend.

Indian Mounds IS on the Texas side, so who was wrong, thier map imagery or Zona?

I say they allow jet boats with tunnels. Let the shallow guys do their thing and the scopers do theirs.

There weren’t beds everywhere at all. Days 1 & 2 certainly proved that. 🤣

do they ban them now?  The only rule I was aware of was that you had to fish the same boat all year, i.e. couldn't swap between a 21' glass boat for the big water and drop to a small aluminum for skinny stuff.

"Jet drive engines, surface drive engines and tunnel hull boats are not allowed during both official practice and competition.   Any boat/hull designs other than standard mass-produced units are only allowed at the discretion of tournament officials."

The jet boat rule is basically the ott defoe rule 😂. He won an open on Douglas running up the French broad and pigeon rivers, and of course everyone whined….. sound familiar ?

@TnRiver46 I thought it was a custom built prop tunnel hull? Plus he just used it for that event I think not all year.

Seems like he won one out of that boat too, I may have mentioned the wrong tourney. He’s got a jet too. I think he used the tunnel hull/prop after the jet was outlawed.

After catching up here on the FFS debate I’m generally curious, do people find bank beating that much more entertaining from a coverage perspective? I mean yes the top water blows ups and jig hooksets are ten fold better, but the hours without a bite staring at all the shallow cover in between is the exact same as FFS to me.

Secondly you can most certainly take FFS principles from the anglers and learn them for your home lake. Gee had his screen blown up by the coverage team and he did a 10 minute breakdown on exactly what he was doing, the bait he was using and what he felt like the keys to the bite were while fishing. What more do you want from the guy?

@TnRiver46 I had thought jets were outlawed before that and then that’s when it became tunnel hulls as well. I could be wrong too. Somewhere between what we are talking s out is the actual truth and it really doesn’t matter lol. It’s just the irony of what’s deemed an unfair advantage or isn’t.

@ak6388I think it comes down to they are only casting at fish they see so some of the excitement of the catch is gone because they see it happening. Personally I think watching live fishing is boring. You will have lulls in the catching no different than any of us going out on our own.  a made for  TV fishing show is much better or a tournament that has been edited to show mostly the catches.

Excellent points. Last year they were smashing them off shore with topwater on Champlain but the whiners were out in full force about kyoya. Another funny one I’ve been hearing a lot recently is all you see is the anglers back. I don’t remember a cameraman ever standing in front of the fisherman, kind of hard to operate the trolling motor that way. Last year on Fork, Livesay won with a topwater throwing out of the back of the boat, but the cameraman was in the front so you could still only see his back

@TnRiver46 I don’t follow pro fishing die hard. I don’t make time to watch it nor do I any other pro sports. If it’s on and I’m not doing anything yeah I’ll watch it. I just won’t center my day around it. The pro ranks are generally so far removed from what the normal person does it’s insane. At the local level with 1200 impoundments and smaller FFS is making a big difference in how the fish act.

I don’t fish to put money in my pocket.i don’t fish to eat. I’ve never decided oh im going to watch people fish. Fishing is boring to watch. A heck of a lot of fun to do. So I really don’t get the FFS makes watching fishing boring aspect.
