Winter 2024 / 2025 ~

With what was still on the ground from the last record breaking dumping, we're approaching 30 inches and it's still coming down.  The below zero wind chill is particularly fun.

Forecast to let up overnight meaning I will be a snow clearing fool for most of the day tomorrow.

Good Times ~ Well mostly anyway . . . .

I’ll be deleting this post after you read it, I don’t want to cross the line here.

It’s starting to feel like a normal winter here and I was up in Maine recently. I was talking to a tradesman and said something along the lines of “big difference this year compared to last” (last year was really mild for Maine standards). He says

We am NOT routing for Global warning.

Need the cold, ice & snow.

Don't like it, move to a warmer climate.

Totally agree! I almost lost my house up there last January from the highest storm surge on record … :)

I’ll be deleting content from that post now

We may actually be in for our first legit measurable snow of the season here on Thursday.  They are talking somewhere in the nature of 2-4 inches coming in from the northwest right along interstate 94.

However, its not gonna last very long as next week looks very warm, with even possible rain in the forecast around Christmas (again!).  Its all gonna melt within a week or less.

Today is that thursday @gimruis here in fargo nd. Gonna breakout the Bobcat later today as its still snowing here at 10.00am until 4pm.

My dad bought the bobcat new in 1975 and with its gear driven transmission with a geared transfer case reducer this blower has power, just 1 forward and 1 reverse gear, the 2nd stage paddle thrower is also gear and chain driven.

I also have my other snow thrower for backup.

Gaylord has broken their record at 5:24 am this morning reporting -21 degrees Fahrenheit. The previous record of -10 for December 22nd has been standing since 1989.

@A-Jay -21* is crazy cold! I’ll just take my 5* and keep my trap shut. 😂

When I did the dogs last night it was -5.

I could hear the trees 'popping' all around us.

If you've never experienced that - it's pretty wild.

It's kind of hard to describe and only happens in the coldest temps.

Over the otherwise dead silence of the winter woods at night, it seems eerily loud.

Yup, I’ve experienced it before. It is pretty wild. Ice cracking or expanding on a lake and the sound racing across the lake towards you on the opposite side of the lake will give a person 100% pucker factor.

The 'record low' is just for this date.

We've seen and will most likely see a few days colder as the winter progresses.

Meanwhile, at the same latitude as Andy - I woke up to +25 this morning....amazing what a change in longitude can bring.

Meanwhile, it's been a record-breaking warm season so far.  It hit 60 degrees two days ago, and has been in the mid 50's for a month (normally it's about 42).  Rainfall has been average, but in buckets when it comes instead of the steady drizzle. The bomb cyclone did a number on the area (there's still cleanup in progress), and we've had several windstorms since.

Currently we're on storm 2 of 6 this week.  That's bringing more rain and wind, but not colder temps.  But we'll see if that changes things.

The melt and thaw has begun here. The 3 inches of snow on the ground here are melting and there is up to half an inch of rain in the forecast on Friday, with temps around 40.

I doubt winter is over, but rain at the end of December here is very unusual.
