Hi vis line?

Featured Replies

So I have been thinking about starting to use hi vis braided line while using ned rigs, shakey heads, tubes etc. I already run a long flouro leader.

I was just wondering if these are the correct applications for this or when you run this type of line?

I use it for slower, more vertical presentations. I have eye issues so the brighter line is easier for me to see if there's any slight line tick

I use chartreuse/neon green braid for as many of my reels as I can. I can't use a moss green due to not being able to see the line on the water. Always helps to be able to see your line for those light bites. I don't discriminate on it as far as only using it on certain techniques

@Jigfishn10this will be the reels I would be putting it on. Not really worried about that stuff that I am constantly moving.

That’s the way I do it along with swim baits and some lighter weight jigs.  I use hi vis yellow and white for visibility as well as feel.

Do they even make non hi-vis braid? 😉 😆 lol

Nearly all my Ned/shakey/finesse stuff gets hi-vis yellow braid.

Been using pink or yellow line for years for this very purpose. Leaders are rarely necessary.

I run high vis braid for pretty much all my bottom contact presentations, with a long lighter FC leader (long enough but doesn't go into the spool) so that if I get hung up I break off at the lure knot and keep most of the leader. I dislike breaking off and possibly leaving a bunch of braid in the water. I retie frequently and the leader will usually last me several outings.

I've been running bright blue. The yellows and greens sometimes blend in really well with some water here and definitely when we get "pollageddon" 1 and 2. Blue has stood out best for me.

As far as for what, anytime I have braid is getting transitioned to this. Basically any bottom contact, jerkbait and frog rods.

I just could never make that jump to the neon stuff.

Fished Golden Stren when it was in fashion, but bailed on it when something better came along.

Now, I rarely 'look' at my line.

At least not in a manner that's designed to assist me in strike detection.

Fishing for a long time at night taught me to use the the force Luke.

So the clear FC, green or bronze mono and green Braid is fine.

I often can see fish strike in clear water.  A good percentage of these strikes are never felt.  A bright braid helps a lot, like a strike indicator when fly fishing.  You look at the knot.

If you never catch fish, does it matter??

That said, I have hi-vis yellow on one of my spinning setups that is used for mostly vertical fishing.

Most I see it is guys crappie fishing , detecting a line jump before feeling the bite from suspended fish.

in fact the stuff is called “Mr crappie” and it’s mono haha
