Need a GOOD spinnerbait

Featured Replies

Who makes a really good spinnerbait?

I'm still young in my green bass hunting so I have limited experience with spinnerbaits.

Last year I tied on a spinnerbait I purchased at least 10 years ago and loved it. Ended up catching my biggest of the year (4 lber) and then shortly after lost it to a snag. Come to find out they don't make them anymore. It was the Terminator Titanium T1 or something. Double willow.

Since then I've been trying to find a good one.

I bought a few Strike King Tour Grade Compact Double Willow spinnerbaits this year and I'm just not a fan.

What's a good one?

THANKS!

I fish spinnerbaits quite a bit.

In fact, I expect to be doing it again early tomorrow morning.

Perhaps if you were to define what you believe to be the desirable characteristics

of a good spinnerbait, we could fine-tune what you're looking for.

Personally I've settled on the Megabass SV3, they're pricey though (especially now with tariffs).

My other favorite is the War Eagles.

That's stock out of the package for both. I haven't found what I would consider a "perfect" spinnerbait yet though.

Well, I guess an overall well made spinnerbait that holds up with a good hook. Oh, and a good baitkeeper.

A blade came off one of the Strike Kings with not much use. Also, the baitkeeper at least to me seemed too thick. The trailer seemed to always split because of how thick it was.

I like the Strike King compact double willow. I caught both of these on one in the past year. A 5 lber in a friend's pond, and a 4 lber from the river. They're not extremely durable, but they go on sale a lot, and they work well for me.

Dobyns Beast and Megabass SV3 is all I will buy anymore.  I have gone through a metric crap ton of different brands.  Those two are the best on the market imho.

I fish War eagle 95% of the time. The screamin' eagle in particular which is a 1/2oz, bait on a 1/4oz frame and blades. That seems to match most of the bait around here,

I will second the SV3 also.

MegaBass SV3, Booyah Covert Series, and the 6th Sense Divine are my 3 favorites. War Eagle has been good to me too, but I hate the lack of a bait keeper.

OSP High Pitcher.  Its compact and easy to use. Also holds up pretty well.

Forgot about this one...

After looking at the new price on TW, I think I'd like to forget again. Yikes I remember trying these when they were 14.99 and gritted my teeth.... now 22.99??!!

On the topic of prohibitively expensive Japanese baits, I also want to shout out the Jackal DoooN. My only gripe is the hook, it's very light wire, which does not lend well to how I fish spinnerbaits. But for someone that likes lighter line, more open water, and softer rods these could be very good. I like the 3.8 keitech EZ shiners as a trailer because these are one of the few spinnerbaits that have a good trailer keeper.

Use the receipt as a trailer and the gullible bass will eat it up.

OK - Thanks.

I agree with most of that, and you've already gotten several very good suggestions.

IME—and something that's not highly advertised or even discussed here very often,

is that most every spinnerbait has a 'life span."

So the more and the heavier the fish it catches, the shorter its life span.

Baits that don't get bites are "awesome and last for years."

Clearly no company wants to acknowledge that their baits will bend out, have hooks get dull, and have skirts ripped to shreds.

But they do.

I expect it at this point.

Therefore, I recommend purchasing baits that you are comfortable replacing before they actually need to be replaced.

That's the secret. If you wait, it can be heartbreak city.

I have been catching fish on SK Burners for years.

Most recently, the New Freedom Freak has seen quite a bit of action,

in both the long and the short arm models.

There are a variety of colors available, and in my opinion, there is no right or wrong choice.

Good luck.

Hawkeye,

The River2Sea Ish Monroe Bling spinner baits are my all time favorites.  The colors are my two all time favorites.  The head design with that flat-ish bottom and angled from the bottom arm goes over timber well and they hold up decently, have great hooks and a excellent finish to the thin blades. They have a excellent "thump" and catch fish for me.

Like Ajay said after a few good fish they will get bent and need straightening. After a few re-tunes the arm can break.  If your careful and don't try skiing the fish back to the boat and boat flipping a 3# plus into the boat they will hold up better.  If your using 40-50# braid and the drag is locked down they won't last as long. For what it is worth, I don't use a trailer and prefer the 1/2 oz size.

The Dobyns looks good and I’m going to order a couple.

Now, I consider myself a somewhat smart man. With that said, I have ZERO clue how to order these on their website.

I select the bait, but there’s no option to purchase.

There’s no “add to cart” button or anything.

What am I missing? lol

TW Has some

I think they are all out of stock.  The only one I can find that allows add to cart is the above in colorado/willow 3/4oz configuration.  The green add to cart button pops up when you select those options.

I am sure they can be found on other websites and maybe amazon.

Don’t order any Dobyns product from the home website. Their shipping costs are really high.  Order from TW or another outlet.

If you are looking for a quality double willow that provides both flash and really high water displacement and runs on a flat plane, Sieberts Cosmic DW is excellent. All his baits are.

No, it certainly is not.

And that's because I'm going fishing tomorrow, and my brain is in Lock Down Spaz Mode.

I mean more than usual.

Sorry about that.

I have 3 very full boxes of spinnerbaits, and Strike King Tour Grade double willow is my most productive in 3/8 and 1/2 with 2 nickel blades.  Shad are my primary forage species, so I stick to shad color skirts and a 3 inch fork tail white trailer.  I trim the skirt to allow a portion of the trailer to be exposed.

You’ll be pleased to hear I also picked up a Karashi.  :)

Thanks for the link and everyone that commented. For some reason I ran out of “likes”.

Terminator is the best version ever made.

Unfortunately they are discontinued unless you want to fork over 30 bucks or more each on eBay.

If you are looking for a comparable version to the terminator, you won’t find it. It doesn’t exist.

Osp high pitcher max, Megabass sv3 and war eagle are all I use. Prefer the Osp over anything. Ordered all mine from Japan lure shop and makes them worth it but I would still pay full price in the states for one they are that good

First off Siebert Outdoors compact series has been a favorite for a long time. They’re almost custom at an almost bargain price, and you can get whatever skirt/weight, whenever you want.

I have always loved the Stanley Wedge line. They just catch fish for me. YMMV

Finally, I like(d) the Revenge spinnerbaits from Birmingham but they seem to be OBE.

@A-Jay is 100% correct that a spinnerbait is a consumable, much like soft plastics. Sometimes they last, sometimes they don’t. When they don’t, usually you’re doing it right.
