Tackle prices up or down or same

Featured Replies

So I haven’t been paying much attention to the market but seen a tn70 lipless was 21 dollars is that the normal price for this seems more than normal

They were $14.99 back in 2016/2017, so a 40% increase in that timeframe. Not certain which year(s) they jumped, though. Probably post-Covid and/or tariff related increases, so after 2020.

The Bait Monkey told me prices are down, how can I not believe my oldest friend?

Hooks, jig heads, weights and most plastic baits are definitely up.
And shipping is up too!

All I know is that I am glad I have accumulated enough tackle to last me the next decade. Actually, now that I think about it, that was a good investment :)

Lately, my favorite U.S. distributors seem to have more out of stocks than before, but I still found a G Loomis rod and Daiwa reel for much less than I expected.

It's definitely more than normal. A lot of Japanese baits have gone up a lot due to recent events.

Wait, you guys pay MSRP?

For more expensive stuff like rods and reels I shop around or make a couple phone calls.
For a bag of plastics or hard baits it is what it is.

Things have gone up, that's for sure.

Social media, covid, inflation, and tariffs, have all have contributed.

Fishing is more popular now than it probably ever has.

Supply and demand.

Guilty of that here too.

I’m actually kind of regretting it now though. Went overboard. I haven’t bought anything other than line, hooks, weights or plastics in years.

Honestly same, I went pretty overboard when I first started just wanting to try every technique and having the options of different sizes and colors for every situation. Realistically I use like 10% of what's in my tackle boxes in a given year lol. I've found what I've liked and what seems to work in my lakes. Sometimes I get the hunch to try something different and it pays off but for most techniques I've settled on 1-3 baits that get the job done. I do kind of wish I could reset and start from scratch sometimes, but whenever I cull my tackle I always run into that "well, this cooouuulld be good in this specific situation you encounter sometimes" and I can't justify getting rid of it.

Whether prices are up, down or the same. When you want or need something. you are going to buy it. I am pretty well stocked, my grandson says my garage looks like Bass Pro Shops.

Christmas '22, someone posted a 50% off Pure Fishing code.  The Abu Zenon rods had just come out @ $399.   Bought 5 @ $200 using the code.  They are now $559!

Went to Academy last night and most prices were what I expected.  Now the Dirty jigs puppy heads were $7.49 for 3 heads. Guess they are trying to buy a house next to Bill Gates with those prices. Only thing I need to buy are some 3/16oz bullet weights.
