New year day meal

What do you eat for New Year’s Day?
Do you have a traditional meal?

Do you order a pizza and veg in front of the tv?

Whats your New Year’s Day deal?

When I was young, my grandmother would fix roast beef and cabbage. Even if you didn’t like it you had to eat a little bit.
It was to start the new year out right. (She would fix a ham too)

Now My wife being a Floridian, born and raised, It’s black eyed peas and greens. ( I have to admit, like it better the the roast beef and cabbage)

Mrs Mike has always kept my Ma’s tradition of Italian sausage and peppers, ricotta bread and Sicilian cucidadi cookies.

We are having my family Christmas at my sisters today so we are having deviled eggs, potato salad and my niece is in Home economics or the equivalent \whatever its called nowadays so she's making club sandwiches. Traditionally we would do seafood on new years Eve growing up...last night me and the wife stayed home and had charcoal grilled Roberts ( unseasonably warm here) and sushi from a local spot.

You know @GRiver, we never did do that. That’s interesting tho. I think that being an Italian-American we make sooo much food for Christmas, we end up eating it for a couple of days after. New years, we just do whatever. I will say that I have an itch for Sloppy Joe’s … 😂

@Mike L, I can honestly say I’ve never had ricotta bread. I make most Italian food but never had that.

Would you mind posting a pic?

My wife was born in Trinadad.  She fixes six boy turkey curry and we feed 10-12 and have leftovers until I don’t want to see anything from the stove.  So I am having beef sausage slices along with my pickled Jalapeño vegetables and catch up un a few recorded games.

We have a tradition of meals around the holidays but this year it is totally messed up (but not in a bad way).  Normally we have clam chowder on Christmas Eve and a standing Prime Rib on Christmas Day with Yorkshire pudding (bread), spinach casserole, and then black eyed peas and ham on New Year’s Day.  This year we drove from Virginia to Kansas City to celebrate, with a big party, my mother in laws 90th birthday.  Relatives came in from Florida and we flew my daughter in from Virginia.  We had an abbreviated Christmas with just stockings at our vrbo but we did have our chowder and Prime Rib.  My daughter had to get back to her farm, so she flew out before the Prime Rib dinner.  We drove home and was promptly advised by my daughter that she wants the traditional Prime Rib dinner and to celebrate our family Christmas.  Then she gets a cold and we are having our Christmas this weekend along with our traditional dinner.  Whew!

O Man I wish I would have seen this sooner.
There’s never any left overs or I certainly would have.

I definitely will when she makes it again

Hey Everyone….I should have put an explanation clause….I’ve had to look up almost everything y’all are having.

@Mike L correct me if I’m wrong..but Siciliacucidadi cookies = really fancy fig newtons right?

@TnRiver46 you really churched up with schnitzel, that equals  “country fried whatever” … beat the crap out of it with a piece of locust , bread it and fry it in some lard. Right?

@DitchPanda I’m still trying to figure out what a grilled Robert is, got the deviled eggs and potatoe salad.
@Jigfishn10 Sloppy Joes ….got it…. right there with ya.

@Jig Man You got me with the six boy turkey curry….. I even google it. found Turkey curry… lost me on the six boy. But I will take some of your jalapeño veggies.. love them.

@TOXIC all I can say is WOW, no matter what  you finally have to to eat …call it a day. A peanut butter and jelly sandwich would do me. You had a busy holiday’s

French toast with real maple syrup, thick cut bacon, pretty much the only time we have it all year.

Son's doing a tenderloin in the oven for dinner with roasted broccoli and roasted potatoes

My beautiful wife is fixing a ham, seasoned collard greens, black eyed peas and cornbread!!!

Whatever the wife fixes it's good.

This evening was fried perch, broccoli and rice.

I eat fast, do the dishes and back to football 😁

If my Noona heard that you compared her cookies to a fig newton you wouldn’t be invited for dinner (then she’d feel bad and let you in anyway)😃

The fig is only one part….

Rum or Whiskey

Pitted Dates

Raisons

Toasted Almonds

Candied fruit

Orange Rind

Honey

And certain other things in the proper proportions

Sorry about that.  My wife’s father was a Naval officer stationed there.  His wife was able to join him and they had house servants.  The number reflects the condiments that go on the curry.  Each one served by a different person.  Of course we just put them on a counter and let everyone help themselves to what they want.

I don’t have a traditional meal, but I am grilling New Yorks as I type which is somewhat of a treat recently.

Whoops! Ribeye ...my fault. Not sure why the autocorrect on my Kindle was set on Cannibal mode.

We would traditionally have black eyed peas , greens, cornbread, and ham or fried chicken. My mom was a north carolinian so I’m sure that was the biggest influence.

Nowdays, my wife and daughter have a traditional thanksgiving and Christmas supper but not on new years .
I had a jimmy dean meat lovers bowl for breakfast, some kind of delicious italian sandwich for lunch( although my wife isn’t italian), and stir fry chicken and vegetables for supper. Apple pie for dessert.

Nobody going hungry around here ! 🤠

We don't really have a New Year's tradition.  This year my wife made some of her lasagna.  We finished the last of it yesterday.

Normally the wife makes pork and kraut. This year I changed the program and made a gumbo. This was my first time making Cajun Chili. Good stuff.
