Seaguar Carbon Ultra

Featured Replies

So they add the word “Ultra” to it to make it new!!,,,,,hummmmm

It's a TW exclusive - so who knows

Seaguar Tatsu is the gold standard for Fluorocarbon IMHO. SunLine's Shooter and Sniper are good. But personally I like Tatsu better then either of them.

This is in the same price range and a little thinner then Tatsu and made by Seaguar. Heck, I'd try a spool, to get me up to that free tee shirt range.

FM

I'll stick with Tatsu but if someone swears by this, I might give it a shot.

You can only utilize the Seaguar Ultra if paired with Daiwa Hyperdrive from what I heard from a friend's cousin's uncle.😁

I'll try it.

I don't believe this is intended to be like Tatsu, it's said to be stiffer, but ultra low memory. If I had to guess, this new stuff is far better on a baitcaster than spinning gear, just like Shooter.

To me it seems like a direct competitor to Sunline Shooter. For slack line sensitivity and deep water jigging with a lot of abrasion resistance, Shooter is better than Tatsu, for most other things, I would opt for Tatsu or something else.

I literally just bought two bulk spools of Shooter last week lol, wish I had not as I would have tried this stuff, I probably still will try it, but will be a while. It's cheaper than Shooter by a little bit, but no bulk spools.

Shooter is the juice

Wait. You mean to tell me that Seaguar Basix isn't the best they offer? But it's all that my Walmart carries, it has to be the best! 😂

I wouldn't want a line stiffer than Tatsu.

The fluorocarbon that bests Tatsu for both low memory and limpness (competing properties) is Toray Solaroam ExThread.

Interesting, I definitely like a stiffer line for fishing skirted jigs and plastics, as long as it doesn't have bad memory and get coily on me.

Tatsu isn't extremely abrasion resistant either, kind of middle of the road. It's the only fluoro I will fish on a spinning reel anymore, well I do like Invizx in 4 pound for casting ultra light Crappie jigs when they are on the weed lines so I guess those are the only two fluoro lines I fish on spinning reels anymore. Otherwise my spinning reels have Super Natural mono which I used to fish a lot a long time ago and last year began to use it again. Fishing a jerkbait, side by side, same rod, same bait, I like the way 10 pound Super Natural fishes a jerk bait compared to 10 pound Tatsu or any fluoro, the mono's sink rate seems to match the jerkbait better for me... Despite what many say, mono doesn't actually float lol Any "floating" monos just have a silicon coating that will in time, wear off. Well, there are a couple that are somewhat hollow in nature that float, but not something I would fish on Bass gear.

That Toray line you mention has been around a long time, it used to be called BAWO. Never tried it, but Toray makes some great stuff, obviously not really sold stateside.

Seaguar's offerings are a bit wonky, they have a product called "Abrazx" that is actually one of the least abrasion resistant fluorocarbons on the market, Invizx in the same diameter is more abrasion resistant lol The power of marketing...

Tatsu, Invizx and the Blue Label leader material are legit, everything else, meh... This new stuff is probably good though, I like TW, but don't like all this "exclusive" crap, one shop has this color or that color, no others can, makes it a pain when one item is at one store, but the other 5 items you want are at another, this will just add to that... Soon the Mom & Pops won't even have products they can put on their shelves to compete with the big guys lol Kinda bummed Seaguar would do that, but sales are sales and the bills have to be paid...

“The power of marketing...”

My point exactly.

What’s the strength of this line? Looking for a glide bait line in fluro on a 200 size reel. Want 20#+

  • Super User

@Motoboss - they sell up to 20-lb test. ExThread is already the most expensive fluoro made, but it's one of those lines I'll throw into a JDM order so the shipping is offset by the balance of the order. There has been US stock, but I can't google any up right now. Toray justifies the cost and the surprising property mix to result from using a different formulation for each diameter.

The biggest I've used is 6-lb on this F6 spool, and it doesn't jump off the spool like Tatsu - also has good abrasion resistance in salt finesse niche.

I'll give this to Tatsu, when I was setting up an old CV-Z coming off my bench, for first cast I used my 1016 SV back-up spool that had 4-y-o Tatsu. It was extremely well-behaved, and the low memory was surprising after that long storage.

@Motoboss Knot2kinky single-strand titanium has the best snap I've ever used on a pike/ inshore bite trace. Close 2nd was Mako from Ukraine, but they quit mailing to (or even taking payment from) US after the '20 postal crash resulted in paypal chargebacks. I was very happy when N2k started making these in US. Saves from toothy fish and snook gill plates.

I’m going to put my .02 in this thread. As the proud and extremely thankful recipient of @bulldog1935’s Tica Cetus it arrived with not just 1 but 2 spools both spooled with line I would probably never get my hands on. The first is 4lb kamikaze salt copolymer (pink) and I have yet to use it but I’m thinking this season. The second is 4lb Toray ExThread which I’ve been using since receiving the reel back in 2023 on a ultralight setup with a slip bobber rig. I will add as I said to bulldog the line has surprisingly near zero memory especially given the tiny spool that is on the Cetus which I believe is categorized as a 500 sized reel which bulldog can correct me if I misspoke. I will also add as I’ve said in the past I’ve only fished this setup in a weed infested pond which has minimal to nonexistent rocks or wood that the line would be rubbing against but I’ve dragged some decent fish tangled in a 1/2-1 pound mess of weeds without problems and cast right back as I was on a hot bite without any issues. I welcome @bulldog1935 to comment further with any feedback he may offer regarding the reel and what he used it for prior to my receiving it.IMG_2338.jpegIMG_2337.jpegIMG_2355.jpegIMG_4603.jpeg

Adding to @Eric 26 post, the micron-frame Cetus 500 spool diameter is only 32 mm, and I fished the Toray ExThread that's on it for 2 years before I gave the reel to Eric.

That's a heck of a long-term line memory test.

This is my current Cetus, the slightly larger 800 with 38-mm dia spool.

(this was a gift to me from another friend)

The reel Eric has, I fished 7 years in salt finesse with my daughters before retiring it for Vanquish. It came with karma, including 23" seatrout, and a double with seatrout and slot snook.

Looks like a good excuse to charge you $20 extra for a product that costs a nickel.

Once the sponsor shills get their hands on it, it will be the finest product ever made, and impossible to fish without.

I throw Invizx, or Sniper, or Shooter. They are too expensive.

Well, I was right. Randy B. just posted his review. Finest fishing line ever made. Everything else is obsolete. Better get on the band wagon. Up the limit on your credit card. Buy a bunch.

Yep ole Candy Randy.. guy is a control freak 😎

The Carbon Ultra might be worth a try. I am sucker for new line anyway but I am equally critical of it if it doesn't perform. I wonder how it compares to R18 LTD? I am good on line until maybe July of this year. I will probably wait until then.

I also want to give the Toray Exthread that @bulldog1935 suggested. It's seems to be similar in cost to a lot of other lines.

I will give him this, he has one heck of a following for having some of the lowest quality video footage of any of the YouTubers out there, just him talking to his cell phone mostly. He has invested virtually nothing in that channel and probably earns a decent chunk of change from it.

That whole YouTube channel thing interests me, I would never want to be in the spotlight like that, would never want to leave my house lol Then you have all the other anglers that hate you for pimping their waters, etc... Too much drama. Can't deny though there are some guys that put a lot of effort into it and all things considered, put out some quality content. The guys that are genuinely striving to teach people to be better anglers, have a lot of respect for them, some of them do a better production than the "pro's" with full blown camera crews, editing staff, etc...

Randy's channel is successful because a lot of people cheer for a contrarian...which Randy is in spades. Me...I try to ignore him.
