Joedodge is off the bank (got a boat)

Featured Replies

Picked it up this morning. Pretty cool little 14’ long 5’ beam aluminum boat. Came with a 36 pound thrust trolling motor. Safety equipment and a Lowrance elite-3x. Has a 1958 sea strike motor ( I’ll be removing it for another trolling motor. Came with a fitted cover as well. Towed home just fine and has all paper work. They did a nice job making the decks. I plan to remove the front chair though. I’m gonna start a thread documenting cleaning it up and getting it the way I want!

You'll have to post a photo in the "show your ride" thread.

Thank you. Needs some TLC. But doesn’t appear to need much. I need to repack the trailer bearings. And find a new rubber cap or buddy bearing and fix a tail light. Other than that the trailer is in decent order. And I wana size up to 12 inch wheels and tires.

@Joedodge here is a couple sites I got a lot of ideas from.

https://tbnation.net

Tiny boat nation is pricey, but I got a lot great ideas from it.

The original aluminum boat community!

Looks alot like my first boat. I had a 14 foot sears V hull aluminum boat but mine had 1959 35HP Johnson Sea horse on it.

Another suggestion…. Take the boat out this season…just make it safe and fishable. Make notes every time you take it out on what you would change, or add to it.

Find out where your local recycle or scrap yard is… great place to buy aluminum pieces.

Outstanding, congrats!!

About time! Congratulations!

And now the fun begins!

Curious what your plans are for the 1958 Johnson? The photos you posted above show the motor, but to my eye it does not look old enough to be a 58???

This is what I see in the photo above:

While a 1958 Johnson looks more like this:

The motor I am seeing in your photo looks to be possibly as much as 20 years newer than a '58 and the color of it is different? What's the story on the motor? Does it run?

I honestly haven’t pulled the cowling off or anything yet. That’s just what I was told. It does not run. Used to he said. It has good compression. I’m sure it just needs the carb cleaned out and fuel lines and some spark plugs. I’ll probably just put it in the garage as another project for a later date lol

Just looking at Google it’s around a 1960 Or 61 judging y the cowling design

Congratulations Joe! You will enjoy tinkering with it to get it the way you want it.
