What are we throwing?

Featured Replies

I'm heading out tomorrow for the first time.

What have you been throwing folks?

It's been raining a bunch here in Iowa so I'm assuming the water clarity won't be the best.

Thinking a spinnerbait might be my first choice.

I like jerkbaits and cranks in colder water but not sure if there's not much clarity.

Can't wait!!!!!!!

Lipless and bladed jig would be tied on for sure.

Yeah those would be good additons.

Two baits I have no confidence in though. LOL

Never caught a fish on a lipless and have caught fish on a chatter but seem to do better with a spinnerbait or swimjig.

Spinnerbait, Wacky Worm and a Rage bug here in Missouri. Plus a little Topwater

Bladed A rig

Flashy swimmer underspin

Trap/Bladed jig as previously mentioned

Dagnabbit another lipless vote.

Can't build confidence with a bait if you never throw it. I'll add it to the arsenal.

It's a great way to cover water, and a fun bite burning or bottom bouncing.

I also suppose it depends what things are like locally, if the bite is just starting you might be better dragging a jig or t-rig slow. Here in CA spring is in full swing, bass are in all 3 phases of the spawn, there's already fry and empty beds.

Yeah I have no clue what the water temp is or anything for that matter.

I'm gonna bring a handful of rods and a small bag of baits and wing it.

Will just be nice to get out. Hopefully catch something with decent size. )

Man if I knew they would hit topwater I'd get a combo ready.

Might be a little cold for that up here right now. IDK, I've never really fished this early in the season.

I've been out twice and surprised both times. First time water temps were 54-ish, second time over 60. Both days windy. Should have been moving baits but those were only catching dinks. The only solid bass I caught were on a finesse craw and a T-rigged Trick Worm and the good bass were all extremely shallow but very close to drop offs and all were sporting fat bellies from feeding up. All the decent bass were in areas leading to the spawning coves from deep winter water. About halfway there.

Swim jigs and casting jigs in lighter weights and natural colors have been solid for me on my first two trips here in MI. My bite is just getting started.

Ned rigs and blade baits here in SE MI, but we’ve also been slow to warm. Hoping this past week of warm rain gets things going.

Crankbait on rock, spinnerbait on everything else.Maybe add in a top water , texas rig or jig but last week it was cranks and spinnerbait.I'll be fishing tomorrow about fifty miles from th Iowa border.

Scrounger with a Zako; smoking 'em.

Bladed jig for me so far this year here in Iowa. But tomm I’ll have a bladed jig, lipless and spinner bait tied on. And a jig for pitching. I always bring a jig I can flip and swim

90% Jerkbaits and 10% Lipless cranks in southern NY. Water temps from 40 - 58 F. Pretty windy. Happy to report that it's been working so well that I haven't even tied anything else on.

Spinnerbait, T-rigged craw, and Vision 110. My iipless has only caught rotten weeds. A LOT of rotten weeds.

Pretty much the same her in the Land of Lincoln, but I'm actually faced with clear, high water. I've been doing okay. Water temps are still in the 50's.

Don't rule out a blade bait. I've had days when I couldn't get a bite on a lipless and switched to a blade and picked up a few. I think, sometimes the absence of rattles makes a difference. A slim body crank will give off a tight wiggle and with colder water temps. that could be the way to go.

I'm not far....in Ontario.

Same deal. Slow to warm. Nothing going on.

I know you are, because your Loons are still down here, eating our fish.

Helicopter lure with a Banjo Minnow trailer. I'm getting desperate.

Jerkbaits, crankbaits, and paddle tail swimbaits as of right now. If they're shallow and the wind will allow it, a topwater walk the dog lure. Then if they're on structure, jigs and flipping baits.

Murdered them on a 1/8 oz jig head and a 3” mayor a couple days ago in NE. Water temps in high 50s. They were chilling in grass/ wood mixture 8-12 ft of water, but ready to pounce.
