My anunt had just about what you did and was really worried, looked years younger afterward, a free face lift.  With all of the melanoma in my family i have see tons of treatments and watched my dad go to dermo for years until i left home.  I carry a can in my truck and one in my tackle bag of clear 30 or above spray.  My wife gives me all kinds of grief about my hats that "make me look like a grandpa" but i am ok with that if i prevents what you had to go threw.  Hope you heal fast and dont have any additional breakouts.

Skin cancer is nasty stuff.  How did you like your time in the waiting room with the open wound while they tested to make sure they got it all???  The worst is the liquid nitrogen IMO but they have other treatments that are not as painful but gross. fudex is a cream that gets all over the place and works well.  It makes your skin nasty but it works.

I went with my dad to have skin cancer removed from his forehead. The waiting room was the strangest experience I have had in a long time. People were coming out parading their bandages. One lady had growths removed from both earlobes she came out with her ears covered in gauze and said TaaaDaa!! When my dad came out his bandage made him look like a unicorn. He just grumbled and took a seat.

I bought a buff shortly after this and I don't care how I look with it on. I will wear it all the time as the alternative is way to scary.

The skin cancer message has been pretty strong rightfully so. I haven't read all the posts on this so I apologize if its been said already but don't forget about your eyes! Most if not all of us wear our shades while fishing. I work in the utility field so I'm outside all day every day. When I first started I saw these guys wearing sunglasses even when it was really overcast. I eventually asked why and their response was simple but something I never thought about. The sun damages your skin and will damage your eyes. We've all been sunburned and see what it does right away and we learn from it. The damage that's being done to your eyes you don't see until your older and possibly too late. So whether its sunny, cloudy, winter, or any season don't forget about your eyes!

I have started using a product called Sun-X, Professional Skin Protection and like it very much. I was introduced to it by another angler while on the water.

It's a towelette in a sealed foil pouch with a oil-free and non-greasy sunscreen lotion. They're made for trades people that work outside all day.

The pro's are:

-it's in a foil pouch so it stays fresh, you can carry several in your back pocket.

- it's a towelette, so you can wipe on the sunscreen like your washing your face with a cloth.

- It's easy to get full ear coverage, even under the ear folds and so on.

- it dose not sweat into your eyes nearly as much as greasy lotions or sprays.

- When your done with it, jam the towelette back in the pouch and put in your pocket.

- No need to wash off your hands after use.

The Con's are:

- It's only SPF-30

- The cost - about $11.75 for a box of 25 towelette

I get them from Amazon,com at http://www.amazon.com/Sunscreen-Towelettes-SunX-Protection-Version/dp/B000BJUPHI/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS?ie=UTF8&coliid=I18YXS4YRFC4AE&colid=27J7CKNCLX2TS

Just ordered some to try.Thanks.

Bernie Shultz had an article on the skin cancer treatment he received.

His face pretty much look like they sand blasted it.

Cant imagine that especially since he lives in FLL with all that salt water around.

Just had my skin check at the dermatologist office yesterday. All clear report fortunately. My boss was not so lucky had a cancerous area removed from his back.

Take care of yourself everyone

Spring is coming early and we're back out there chasing the little green fish again. Protect yourself from the sun. I know, I know... sunshine is wonderful and keeps you warm and browns your skin and you look good because of it....nice....but the reality is that the stuff can give you a really ugly form of cancer that will scar you badly and maybe even kill you....so smarten up,,,, cover up and save your own skin....literally.

Wear a hat, sunscreen(fresh every year), and if you can, protective clothing. I know that some of you have heard me on my soap box before, well I'm there again. Please listen to an old man who didn't do these things.

Grampa

I've heard it before.  But that was a long time ago.

So I guess that horse is gonna take a couple more licks... because....Spring is actually coming to most of the country. Everybody sounds like they're starting to catch on...just one more tip...The cancer doesn't always pop up where the sunburn was. So cover it all up. Lightweight long sleeves, wide brim hats, fishing gloves and neck scarves along with lightweight long britches and full foot covering. Oh yeah don't forget sunglasses. My head looks like it was hit by a meteor shower. But I'm 70 and still alive and fishing because I started to COVER UP. Just my humble opinion.

Doesn't get on my hands so it doesn't get on the lures.

Dicks has Columbia PFG summer hoodies on sale.  I wear those and Huk Icon hoodies every time out.

I've gone full sun protection mode recently for some reason. ? I don't know why but I'm covered in sun protection fishing clothes, hat, sunglasses.

Especially the sunglasses. Lost an eye to cancer caused by...you guessed it. Not wearing sunglasses enough so that the UV rays damaged the inside of the eye enough to get carcinoma growing.

Read and heed, please

It isn't too early.  I went out in the yak for several hours last Friday.  Used sunscreen, but didn't even think about the giant hole in the thigh of my jeans....got a nice bright red spot, though nothing too bad.  Lucky.

Assuming you find ramps open...(and soft water), don't forget the sunscreen....even in mid March.

If only for this fool.

Even with 50 degree temps, hat, hood, sunglasses, I'm feeling it on my face today.

I can’t walk outside even in the rain without sunglasses, got in a habit of wearing them in college when I was on a lawn care crew. My wife says I need to go outside without them sometimes, I say no thanks 😂 . My eyes are used to them and not having them is way too bright. If I somehow forget mine, I buy an extra pair immediately
