  1. This has been my main emphasis this past year and will be for awhile. You both will become better fisherman for it. I would like to suggest: 1. Use the internet to gather all the information you can. 2. Get a map or two of the lakes. A. Compare them for differences. B. Copy and hand trace the contour lines on each. 3. Fish as often as possible. 4. Interview the people that fish the lake year round. This will be a good start. When talking with the people that fish the lakes refrain from asking them where they are catching their fish. Ask them about the water conditions, available cover, and how deep they are having the most success. This should give you great starting points. Good luck.
  2. Thanks for posting the review. I'll just stick with my Mustad. I ain't scared to use a sharpening rock.
  3. Are you fishing creeks, rivers, or lakes? Boat or bank?
  4. At 16.00 it's a steal. I puckered up whern I did it the first time, but after fishing with it I now own two more.
  5. I too like the Hopkins hammered spoon. I always fish it on heavier line(Mono) with a swivel and a light wire hook. If it will not come loose jigging it up and down you can at least just pull it loose by straightening out the hook. Surprising how few you actually lose. Can't comment on the flutter spoon yet. Have purchased a few, but have not had the chance to try them out. Jack
  6. I just can't stomach the "War Eagle" for some reason. A quick glance at my signature and you will know. Jack
  7. I was considering one of these. What's the issue with the football head jigs?
  8. Be more specific with my records. Spend more days prefishing Check out a lot of overlooked areas that I passed up Pick my battles a little better Do less club tournament fishing Concentrate on higher end tournaments
  9. Look for suspended fish out in the mouths of the creeks and drains. Fish them with a crankbait. they like to suspend out in the 12-15' water out over the 25-30' water.. Fish tight to cover(Not close, tight). Scrape the bark with a jig, baby brushhog, shaky head, etc. Anything that will stay in the strike zone longer. Slow down, soak the lure. If it's hydrilla, concentrate on the points, cuts, small openings, or any thing that stands out as different. If that fails, move up to the edge of the viewable grass with a 1 oz or larger jig and crash it through the top layer out off the sides of the drains and creeks. Start in the 4-6' depths and work your way out. Try a main lake point pattern. Pick the side with wave action and fish them all with rouges, cranks, and plastics until you find the fish. Why wave action? Fewer people fish in the wind(Less pressured areas), and it stirs up everything making it the more active side of the lake. You may fish five points before catching a fish. If you do, that just tells you it will take 25 points to put a limit in the boat. Harder for the fish to see you to. Going home ain't no option! You will learn more on these days than any of the easy days. Good luck.
  10. I ain't one of them. Powerpro and Suffix are the only two braided lines I fish. you cannot go wrong with either. Jack
  11. Well since they have the NBC contract, let them do the hiring. They couldn't make any more bad decisions that the faculty hasn't allready been through. Maybe Lou would come back. That's the only reason I would want to watch.
  12. Try this: Pawn shops Garage sales Over half of my high dollar tackle came from these two outlets. It takes some patience, but really pays off if you take the time. Jack
  13. Saw this movie yesterday afternoon. Really liked it and if you have not seen it try it, it is worth the admission. The true story of Michael Ohrr, the defensive tackle that plays for the Baltimore Ravens. FYI, take your wife or girlfriend. Even though it is sports themed, your other half will like it. Mine did. Jack
  14. Was reading about this on another site last week and they stated that the conversion would run 1,500-2,000. I'm sure this was one man's quote, so check around and price from several places. Remember this though, cheaper may not be better, so do your homework well. Good luck, Jack
  15. Not a new technique, but a new lure I fished I really like was the Lucky Craft RC 1.5. Really like the way it fishes and it comes through the underwater things you always hit. Seems it fouls less and it definately caught fish for me. Jack
  16. If you have messed with the settings reset it to factory defaults. Sounds like you are seeing a double ehco. Jack
  17. Congratulations man. Fish with as many different members as you can. You will learn from all of them. Good luck. Jack
  18. ctbassnut, call Casey at 214 317-0875. He wants to invite you to their club meeting to meet everyone. He is president of the Ray Hubbard Bass Club. I talked to him this morning about you. Jack
  19. Hopefully they can stop the Colts. I'm a Vince fan, but he has had his issues. If he has put them behind him, maybe he can become the quarterback everyone thought he would be when he came out. Good luck next week.
  20. They did not work for me at all. I have had seven or eight sets over the years. I am fused from C-2 through C-7. Wife was in the same wreck I was injured in. Doctor told her the shots were a waste of money as bad as her neck was. She decided to try them instead of surgery and so far they have worked well. She had the first one five years ago and it lasted for almost three years. Since then; however, they are only giving her relief for about 12 months. She is due another one in January. It's always worth a shot at it instead of surgery(IMO). Good luck, Jack
  21. Don't even think you are safe out of the woods. Two years ago a friend and I were fishing schoolies out in the middle of Lake Nacogdoches when a hot round went sizziling right by us. We both hit the deck. Called the police and the warden. They arrested two poachers that had been hunting a restricted area and just decided to fire off a round. It was close. I spent a tour and part of another in S.E. Asia back in the late 60s and know the sound well. This was a close call from two fools with a gun that had no business being in the woods(Or anywhere else) with a high powered rifle. Jack
  22. Reguardless of where it was killed all you have to do is run the Neches river just north of Beaumont, Vidor, and the Orange area and you will find several in this class. Huge gators in this area.
  23. New air compressor for my shop.
  24. Cool, I was wondering where to mount my new Lowrance. my mistake for not knowing about the new unit. I have the 522c and tried it up front built in and had to move it. Guess I will put the new HDS5 in there and give it a try. Thanks for the info Wayne. Jack
