A few relics from the past
Years ago, I would go to flea markets and clearance sales and buy those Lew's speed spools and sell them immediately on eBay and make a buck or three. Very popular with crankbait fisherman. I think it was Lew's (correct me if I have the wrong manufacturer) that came out with a modern version with David Fritts' name on them.

Changing our Valentines Day protocal.
For us, Ash Wednesday. I got mine in the morning, she got her's in the evening. Pancakes, scrambled eggs and bacon for dinner. Standard Fat Tuesday fare. She did get a nice card and a flower called a bromeliad.

Anybody else struggle with living in the past/nostalgia?
I have friend I've known since junior high school. We went all the way through high school together and were very close even after I got home from boot camp and he went off to college. We were inseparable. We saw each other occasionally after we both got married and had our first child. Then, we drifted apart. Raising our families. In late 2019, I reached out. We got together in January 2020 for lunch. We've been seeing each other every other month. (we always say every month but, life happens) Our lunches at Glory Days range from three to four hours at a time and 20 minutes in the parking lot saying goodbye. One day during lunch he says to me, "thank you for reaching out that first time. It's just not in me to do that type of thing, I don't know why. I am so glad we are back in each others lives and I have you to thank." Moral of the story? Reach out. Someone may be waiting to hear from you and they don't even know it.

Sleep
I am in bed from say 930 to 5. If it weren't for Mr. Bladder, it could possibly be straight but, it's been years since that has happened...

Older and Wiser
When I was a guide or when I fish for fun, all you can see are my eyes and my finger tips. My mother died from melanoma, I've had two MOHS procedures and I get rocked with the nitrogen blasts every six months. At home dual chemo cream/ointment treatments every 3-4 months or so. It's a way of life for the fair skinned folk.

Yet another kayaker missing and presumed dead
When I was guiding, we launched one day and while no-waking it at 6MPH to the first creek, a kayaker "flew" by us. This guy was cookin' and all three of us commented. Fast forward about an hour or so and we motor out of the backwater creek we were fishing and out into the main creek. There he was, hanging from the side of his kayak. I asked him as we sidled up next to him if he was cooling off with a dip (it was about 100 degrees) or did he go in accidently. Accidently... He lost his phone, rods and tackle. I asked him if he'd like some help getting in and he said yes. We got opposite of him and it took three of us (big fella) to pull him into his boat. Once settled, I asked him, "as a licensed USCG Captain, could I make an observation?" He said absolutely. I told him that kayakers should always be wearing a PFD. He agreed. I told him that not only was he not wearing it, he didn't have one at all. He said he had just sold his big boat and the PFDs went with the boat. He said, "I figured I was just coming down to the creek for a little while, what could possibly happen." Accidents by definition aren't planned.

The official "Who's drinking tonight?" thread
My everyday go to is a gin and tonic. My daily gin is just Seagram's London Dry, tonic and a fresh lime. (I really like tonic and can drink tonic with a lime and no gin but, that's silly talk...) My best buddy in our annual Christmas bottle swap gave me a bottle of Wilde Irish Gin. The botanicals in this gin are evident to the nose before it ever hits your lips. (olfactory sense is most of taste, think a good, fresh tomato) A new level of gin and tonic!
