Just different mentalities. I see a boat as a tool to catch fish rather than a toy. Like the Swamp People hunting alligators. When I had the Lund, I would wax it once at the beginning of the season and wash it during the summer algae blooms. The boat and trailer were maintained meticulously just not cleaned all the time. The Lund was banged up and scratched when I sold it. I had plenty of "tire kickers" look at it. "It's a little more beat up than I was hoping." The guy who bought it saw past the scratches and dings for the quality of the brand. I'm as far from OCD as one can be when it comes to appearances(except with women) I will pay a premium up front for quality and then drive it like I stole it.

Don't know. The last time the tires were shiny on my truck was the day I bought it.

What I'm saying is there are dozens of current and past BR members that are probably worthy of an interview but, how much information will you gather from a 15 minute video? The information already lies within the pages of this forum. It takes a special kind of person to dedicate their life to chasing the next world record. Tom is an accomplished angler and deserves credit for that. I'd much rather sit down and BS over a beer with WRB or catt or A-Jay or whomever, for that matter, than watch a video.

There's 10 years of Toms posts on BR. You want' it all spoon fed to you? No disrespect to Tom but he honed his skills on CA lakes that produce huge bass. Does that apply to all y'all? Probably not. I'll never be Tom. Chances are you'll never be Tom. Catt has a zillion pages here on fishing TB. I'll never be Catt and chances are, you'll never be Catt I won't even mention A-Jay and Lake Menderchuck. A 20 minute video with Glenn and Tom won't even touch the basics. Go back and read old threads from Tom and whoever else. There are plenty of old threads from guys that no longer post here that can be informative, if you can find them.

Do shiny trailer tires make you a better fisherman?

You struck a chord. When my son was young, he'd mix and match colors and trailers and whatnot. I never corrected him and would offer help if he asked. I watched him learn what worked and what didn't and he taught me a lot, although I will probably never admit it to him. He and I fished buddy tournaments together for years. I can only hope he learned something from me. We stopped fishing tournaments after I tore apart my shoulder 10 years ago. He's been fishing as an "alternate" since then with other anglers. He fishing as a non boater and has a partner this year for the entire season. We talked about it today. I told him to keep his mouth shut when he has to and open it when he needs to. I told him to learn and to teach. I told him to have fun.

Thoughts and prayers are with you

We discussed the job thing sometime ago. I've been at my current position for just about 2 years. If you recall I was very apprehensive about accepting the management position because the store I took over was under performing and had stagnant sales for 5 years. Couple that with moving from a guaranteed salary, with little responsibility at best, to commission based salary and the weight of the stores success on my shoulders played huge on my mind. It ate at me for weeks. Covid going on made things even worse mentally because everything was up in the air with the economy. With all that going on, I still accepted the position. The stress (and fear of starvation) motivated me. I set my mind on success and so far so good. I haven't starved yet and my first fiscal year, sales were up 50% over the previous stagnant 5. I had a journeyman tech come in this morning who I haven't seen in maybe a year or longer. He works for one of the larger mechanical shops in Chicago and generally works south. My store is north. First thing he said when he walked in the door was "Rumor has it you're getting put on our payroll. I hear you've been going out of your way to help our guys" I told him I'm more than happy to take his company's money LOL. What a compliment that was. Made my day. OP, while I do not currently suffer from mental health issues, I have in the past. I suffered from depression when I was young and I attempted suicide as a teenager. I had a brother(RIP) that was born with mental issues and my ex-wife is bi-polar. I don't have a good answer for you but I've been thru it. This too shall pass.

The main advantage of Link is it allows you to use the Bird as another way to control the motor. Lets say you're idling around looking for fish. You mark a waypoint. You can now deploy the trolling motor and it will return you to the waypoint and anchor you on top of it. You can also set up a track of waypoints and the motor will follow them. While you are able to do this without Link, you are limited to waypoints whereas you have something like 10,000 when using the graph. Lastly, the follow the contour feature allows you, in conjunction with Lakemaster, to set a specific depth from the contour lines and follow it. It's well worth the extra money.

After the fact. I just bought my license online on the ILDNR site. $15 plus a $4 processing charge. Could I have saved the $4 had I gone to a brick and mortar to get my license? Not complaining about the $4, just that I have to give the state an extra $4 now to do the same job they did before.

Please explain to me how one can tell what species of fish they are looking at based on an image on a graph? Walleye are no different than any other fish. They follow bait and structure. Different species of fish relate to different types of structure but, that doesn't mean structure doesn't overlap from species to species. If you're going to target walleye, first thing you need to do is fish water with a decent population of walleye. No need to waste time targeting them if they are only 5% of the fish population. Fish the same structure you would for other fish just tweaking your presentation based on time of year. You're in the Midwest as am I. The colder the water, I'd use a minnow presentation. As the water warms, a worm presentation. As the water warms even more, a leech presentation. As the water cools, a worm presentation, and as the water cools even more, a minnow presentation.
