Genius? ? Made some pretty smart decisions & made some rather smart investments. Number 1 investment was attended a seminar hosted by Elwood "Buck" Perry. Number 1 decision started night fishing. I don't night fish because I think they bite better at night. Darkness covers up an angler's presence and most of all his mistakes.

Only good thing I can say is 3 days of below freezing temperatures will kill some marsh grass. Went to my most productive area Friday, wind & current had move Gaint Salvinia in blanketing the whole area.

Where did I get those numbers? My electronics only have GPS because fishing in a marsh/swamp it's nice to know how to get out!

Today modern technology is ruining anglers! I get asked all the time if I take paper maps in the boat. Hint: The vertical lines on a map are known as lines of longitude & the horizontal lines are known as lines of latitude. Take an old homestead for example. Look on the map, measure the longitude & latitude. Walk over to the boat enter that information into the Lowrance & BAM I got a waypoints.

Agreed ? If the lake in question is a man made "impoundment" I get my maps from United States Geological Survey "USGS". These maps were made prior to the lake being flooded & show details not found on even Navionics chips. I have one of Toledo Bend that shows not just where old homesteads are but even shows the fence rows around the homestead. It shows cemeteries with the locations of each individual grave. If there's cemeteries there will be both paved & gravel roads. Parking lots, shade trees located in the cemetery. The area surrounding of the lake belonged to timber companies or National Forest. These maps show clear cut areas & locations of where timber was bulldozed into piles. It shows logging roads & fire lanes. This above all your contour lines. The are paper maps meaning one will have to put time & energy into researching the lake. What these maps do not show is the lake level but with Toledo Bend I know conservation pool elevation: 172.00 ft above NGVD29.

Had one give it away Cooked fine if you're only cooking a small amount, I cook daily for 6 people.

I throw Oldham's, Hack Attack, or Siebert Outdoors. Hack Attack is the only ones I can find locally the other 2 I have to order online. So when I need em in a hurry I buy Hack Attack.
