Night fishing for bass
Love night fishing. I mainly stick to darker colored baits at night except during bright moon phases when I'll fish the same colors I would during the daytime. I avoid treble hooked baits at night, just personal preference. My main baits are a bladed jig, Colorado bladed spinnerbait, T-rigged 10" worm, or a jig.

9 pound bass on PowerBait
This seems to happen fairly often when someone fishing for trout with powerbait hooks and lands a monster largemouth instead. There was a 15.5 pound fish caught in California back in January by a guy fishing for trout with powerbait and 4lb test. Makes me wonder if the bass didn't see a trout distracted by colorful morsel and in their attempt to suck up the trout, got the powerbait instead (or maybe both).

Fly Fishing
I'm not good at it, and I don't do it often, but I enjoy tossing a bug around once in awhile. My biggest was a 4.5lb largemouth on a small popper a long time ago. I just have a very cheap combo that I mostly chase bluegills with during the heat of the summer when they can be sight fished. Also found out the lake I bought a lot on last year has an abundance of hungry grass carp, which are a blast on a fly rod.

Do bass actually care about the action in stick baits?
They'll eat a weightless trick worm on the fall, which has very little movement. I think the main thing is, it looks like a potential easy food item and bass don't have hands to hold and examine a potential food item, so they must take it into their mouth to decide if it's food or not regardless of if they actually intend to eat the bait in the end or not. Personally, I don't get too caught up in what the bass think or care about, as long as the bait is putting them in my boat

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
There isn't a speed restriction, but 25hp is the largest motor allowed. It's a very popular kayak fishing lake and sailing lake.

Wintertime thread
While I was penned up with the flu, I managed to go through some tackle and found several more good bait for this thread.

Vibrating jigs
I've made them with weedguards and with screwlock swinging hooks to rig the trailer weedless but neither was as effective as a standard model. They function correctly, just not as effective for whatever reason.

The JOCO permit gets you on SMP, Kill Creek, Heritage, and Lexington. It's worth it to fish all them except Heritage. I really like WYCO, but unless you're going to fish it a whole bunch, it's not worth it. Jacomo is the lake I'd focus on if you're wanting to buy a permit for a lake. Prairie Lee is included with that permit and is another pretty decent lake. It gets you on Blue Springs too but I've never fished it an heard it's tough.

Hair jigs for early spring bass
I caught several on a 1/8oz hair jig with a shortened 2" power craw for a trailer a couple weeks ago. First time I've had much success using a hair jig like that.

Post a photo a day!
I might have to give it a try if there was any muskie anywhere close by. I might be able to get a big flathead to take a run at one though since they are known to have basketballs on their menu.

Other Species Latest Catch Pics Thread
Anything over about 8 pounds I catch so many of them that I like to poke fun at myself whenever I catch one. Break out the fishing show host voice and play it out like I actually wanted to catch the nasty thing. Now I do have a little fun whenever I get the chance to sight fish one.

Big ol' head on that one for a 3# fish. I've been really surprised how good of a night fishing bait the Ned rig is, and it catches everything just like it does during the daytime. It really shines at night if there is a big mayfly hatch going on.

Berkley Hardbaits
Academy has a lot of them on clearance right now too for 4 or 5 bucks. I just put the 3rd set of trebles on my first skinny cutter. It's caught so many fish that it barely has any paint left, just the hologram inside the bait.

River2Sea S-Waver
They start to work best for me when the water temp is above 50 and will work at any point in between. I had some pretty good success with them but sold all mine once I tried a Shine Glide 185. Similar price, but much better glide imo.

Backreeling with a spinning reel
I do it most of the time. I set my drag still, but feel like I have better control over the fish if I backreel.

What techniques have you never tried?
Read about doodling in Pursuit of Giant Bass I believe before I tried it. Recoil rig was popular for a minute when I worked at Cabelas where I bought mine. I actually used a chicken nugget once, but for catfish, did not have good results.

Any luck with flukes/super fluke?
One of the great things about fishing and this forum are the variety of opinions you get on topics. Our incessant winds make a weightless fluke difficult to fish on top of it boring me to tears, but I have plenty of friends that love them. For some reason, I enjoy a weightless senko though. No idea why, but it's the truth.

Shakey head on casting gear?
I use it with the magnum shakyheads I pour but prefer spinning gear for the more standard sized rigs. It can be done though. I agree that I'd go fast or extra fast for a shakyhead rod.

Hmmm, someone needs to invent some new rigs so I can try a new one I guess. - What techniques have you never tried?
