  1. I just cant justify running several thousand dollars of electronics on a 14 foot jon boat . My vintage Eagle Fishmark works like new . Throw in some tape and buoys I'm the most technically advanced dude on the lake .?
  2. Then why have divisions if they dont count for anything ?
  3. I catch the occasional lunker but like you say the times and places are so varied that concentrating on cover and structure is about the extent of my knowledge .
  4. The tournament type stay away but there are a few bassaholics like me who enjoy the simplicity of this style of fishing . Most people who visit are either neophytes at bass fishing or perch jerkers .
  5. Oh it works . My thumb has been sore since May . I knew where these piles were anyway , it just took a while to find them . Now I go right to them . There are a few more that I havent been able to locate , they are getting old and breaking up . If I find them , they will get marked too .
  6. Back in the day , there were three main colors of worms that I used . Black grape , blueberry and motor oil . The motor oil Jelly worm was brown "cola colored" then turned a weird green under water .
  7. I'm excited to see what is discovered next . The cosmos fascinates me . Me and a brother will go star gazing several times a year . We have since we were kids .
  8. Recently , I had it two mornings in a row . Felt like I just came off a carnival ride . Fell down both mornings . Went to the doctor and he put a heart monitor on me . My pulse gets down to the 30's at night . Any way it hasnt happenned since .
  9. One cove has a brush pile out in the middle . On both sides of the cove there is a tree marked with orange . Draw a straight line between them and there is the brush . Being noone on this lake uses electronics, very few anglers will know about it unless they connect the dots .
  10. I dont even know how to target big bass . I know they hang around structure and cover , so thats what I concentrate on . There are a few lures that catch a bigger than average fish such as a jig , other than that , I dont know .
  11. Not 6 inch but the five inch Yum Dinger Texas rigged has been getting the job done . Yesterday I caught app 50 bass with lots of 15 inch keepers , mostly on the worm . My last four outings I've caught over 200 bass , with the Dinger causing the most damage . June bug , Bama bug and bluegill .
  12. 14 foot jon boats are supplied by the conservation dept . Elec motors only . I keep forgetting how old school I am . Not only am I marking trees , i also employ marker bouys to stay on top of them .
  13. Thats not happening here unless they use their phones . I'm the only person I know of who uses a depth finder here . Personal craft are not allowed .
  14. This 250 acre lake I fish has sunken cedar trees in several places . Most of them not visible . I've been finding them , then tying orange tape on shore-line trees so I know exactly where they are . If you saw some marking tape on a tree , what would you think ? Would you search the area for a fishing spot , or more likely ignore it because it could be marking anything ?
  15. I do rub the gizits and it seems the more chewed up they are the better . Probably just confimation bias .on my part .
  16. If youre going to rub a worm down , do it before inserting the hook .
  17. Pork always seemed to catch bigger bass . Maybe its in my head but if I wanted a big bass , the old jig-n-pig was the lure . I also used the Uncle Josh Spring Lizard . Fat side down . Black on a brown jig or brown on a black jig .
  18. That old school Larew Salt Craw pitched to cover with a 5/16th ounce weight will catch limits . That seems like to much weight for some folks but it will get bit . Black and chartteuse in the spring , black and blue when the water warms and clears up a bit .
  19. You must be sweeping hard and fast .
  20. Fishing styles should change , constantly evolving . You will find the waters and bass bite change too . Ive seen lakes go through stages where crankbaits dominate ,then spinnerbait ,then worm...
  21. Have you tried a tube with the weight inside ?
  22. I use jigs and Texas rigs in the same places . I throw a Texas rig more but its whatever I feel like throwing . If the water is extremely muudy I like the bulk of a jig .
  23. I never make random cast out in nowhere land unless I'm bank fishing in a pond . Use sinking lures and follow the contour from deep to shallow . Take a few steps and repeat . The lures can be spinnerbaits , jigs , grubs , lipless cranks ...If you find a snag bring out the Texas rig .
  24. I always did better alone . Learned a lot more too . Took chances , thought outside the box . For me its the best way to go .
  25. You could always pour your own then replace them before a catastraphic failure occurs . You dont have to buy lots of blades , swivels... Just reuse the same ones over and over . I retire them every thirty or so fish .
