IMHO, the series is far less important than the club when you are starting out. Use Google and Facebook and find local organizations first, without regards to what series they participate in. Find a good, comfortable local club for a year or two....the rest will take care of itself.

I'm close to done with them. I know that those in Aaron Magic and/or Morning Dawn are very popular around here, but I cannot get a Roboworm bit ....ever.

Interesting. I hadn't heard that before. But I've been reading all the recent posts about losing chatterbaits in wood and I have been scratching my head because I just don't hang them much. I always use a Rage Bug horizontal, so maybe that's why.

I have two: DX 702SF almost single-handedly turned me from a dropshot hater to a DS lover. Nearly perfect for what I needed. I just didn't know I needed it when I bought it. I thought I was buying a light shakey/tube rod. DX 744 is a very good jig/trig rod, but it is a great 1/2 oz spinnerbait rod. **Never mind....sorry. I read DC, but it became DX in my head. I don't have a DC

I hated dropshot for many many years. But nowadays, if wind and current allow, and after I've throw some stuff at a tree from a distance, I'll sit around the crown and dropshot for a few minutes. Or longer.

I also pedal. I can count on one hand the number of times I paddled these last three years. So I swapped my decent paddle with a 'less decent' paddle we had around simply because it has fluorescent green blades; that was more important to me than any other aspect of the paddles. I always carry a hand paddle, as well...and that does get a bit more use.

I read 'Yama-motor'...I doubt that was intended effect, though. I always sort of like 'GYCB'....don't think I've ever referred to Senkos (or other GYCB) as 'Yamamotos'

Rage Bug

Nothing really hidden....I learned about all this stuff on here...lol Quantum HPT reels. Quantum gets much negative ink, so these were routinely on the Bay site for just over $100. Far better than any other <$200 reel I have used. FFO - I must have gotten nine or ten rods from them over the years. Sad that they don't sell deep discount (good?) stuff any more. Frogg Toggs. Not really hidden, but surprisingly impressive to me. If you like the material, all the gear performs well and is durable at great price points. SC Rage - One of my first baitcast rods; SCIII at clearance price ($80) ten years ago....still one of my favorites

Like @RB 77, I'm a huge fan of those. Perfect conditions are 4-7 FOW, with grass 18-24 below the surface. I don't yo-yo these, but burn em, ticking grass tops.

Those suckers are deceptively fast. They can hear me sneaking across my creaky kitchen floor and be gone before I fling open the door. I'm not yet to the point of donning a gillie suit and sitting out all night waiting on them.

Any suggestions for deterring raccoons around grill? A few weeks ago, I forgot to change/remove drip pan under gas grill. Raccoons got in there, up under a full cover, and figured out how to remove it. Now, even though I keep it cleaned out, they still come up on the deck a couple times a week and pull it out just to mess with us.

If I go a month without a 2 hour delay, it is lottery ticket time. (Although, I'll admit that actually standing still in traffic for 2 hours is a little unusual....just a little)

I neglected to add the 'so what?' to my post above. The consequence of my observations is that I am careful, even on a quicker drag or hop, to use the rod more than the reel, so I can quockly.put a little slack in the line when I stop the movement.

@Mike L, maybe I'm misunderstanding the question. We've had discussions about slack line hooksets before...I'm generally in the slack camp....but I think you're asking more about the actual bite. If so, I'm in the slack camp there, also. I have found that way too often when I get a bottom contact bite with little slack....it is going to be a swing and a miss. I think many times, that bit of 'tautness' or resistance turns into a lightning fast spit hook

My stepson left Norfolk at 10 AM yesterday. Arrived home (180 miles north) at 7AM this morning. (We didn't know he was on the road until he was already in the thick of it) He was at a Wawa (fancy gas station chain here in Mid-Atlantic) at 10 PM last night ....nothing but soup and mashed potatoes left....hard to imagine. State and DoT screwed the pooch on this one.....six ways from Sunday. No shortage of blame to go around....but all are just pointing fingers. Yes....it started as rain, so DoT says they couldn't pre-treat, because it would have washed away.....amazing that this is first time a snow event began with rain....who knew that was an impossible scenario. Yes, that county got 3 inches of snow per hour, but that's only 'insurmountable' when you do nothing to stage for it or prepare. Cluster all around.
