What is this?
It sure looks like a broken piece of cast metal, Don. Do the pieces pivot? How is it held on? Looks like a brace or bracket that is under the pivot point of the motor. Wish I could help more. FM

Is my motor too low?
Hi Rick, I'm with Gim on this one. The motor is trying to push a 800# (before decked out?) 16' boat, plus fuel, batteries, and gear. Not enough horses to get it up onto plane. Beautiful looking boat though. FM

Trip from he!!
I feel your pain RobA. Mama said there'd be days like this. Sometimes ya just gotta laugh, life is a series of adventures. Not all of them are good. Glad you got to catch some fish! FM

Mistakes you made early on.
Started fishing at 4 or 5 in short britches hand lining stunted bluegills that hung out under the dock with a hook and pieces of spilled popcorn. Now, 40-50 rods and reels, half a gazillion baits or all shapes, colors and sizes. Metric crap ton of gear. I fish fresh and salt waters, and recently inherited a fly rod. No mistakes, I fish there for I am. FM

Deposits sent for the NEXT fishing adventure!!
I have done the fly-in trip (Talon air service) for the Silvers and bear watching, half day trip across the Cook inlet, land at Silver lake and catch a limit of Silvers (it was three at the time) and then go watch the bears. it was very cool as we were headed across the lake I spied something swimming across the lake. It was a bear. We got with in about ten feet of the bear. Shot some absolutely awesome photos. The best photo I took was a close up of the bear's face and you could see the water droplets dripping off the muzzle. FM

New Tranx 300B or Scorpion 300MD
The older Ambassador round reels will do a fine job of throwing big baits. I have a couple of the older Curado 300 EJ's that I also use. FM

Adding electronics to kayak, reservoir/lake fishing
Garmin also makes a Striker vivid series that has mapping and a 7" screen that is about 400 for a new one. That's Garmin's retail new. You can probably find it cheaper on sale. With both the electronics and the trolling motor it is really a buy once cry once kinda thing. You'll never hear someone complain about his screen being too big or his motor is too powerful. FM

Adding electronics to kayak, reservoir/lake fishing
Hello Bryce, Electronics and trolling motors can range considerably from a couple of hundred bucks to two or three thousand for either. Finding a good mid-range that is the best bang for your buck can be tricky. Basic electronics that will show you depth and fish with a smaller screen can be had for under three or four hundred. If you want the side scan and down scan and chart plotting capabilities that will cost you more. The bigger the screen and the more options the bucks go up considerably. I am at the top end of the scale with my Garmin 106sv UHD2 and live scope. But you can find a couple of year old model for much less that will have the above capabilities. I have been mostly a Garmin user for the past 8-10 years. Something like a Garmin echomap 73sv non UHD version you may be able to get for 3-500 bucks. It would have the side scan, down scan, traditional sonar and mapping. just not the latest version. Look around, take a trip to Bass Pro shops if there is one in your area. See what they have on the shelf. Trolling motors are about the same. lots of things to take into consideration ( how much additional weight can your Kayak carry? ). Include both the battery and motor in that equation. How are you going to mount it? How are you going to control it? Same thing for the electronics. Where are you going to mount it (unit and transducer), how are you going to power it? Your paddling now? So then your almost have to look at center mounting the head unit to keep your paddle travel path clear. Lot's of questions to be answered. Best, FM

Decisions About FC
Seaguar InvisX is a good all around line. 15 lb is a good size. If you fill your reel about 1/3 full maybe a little less with 12lb Big Game and then finish filling with InvisX. You should be able to get three re-spools (including the initial fill) out of a 200 yard spool of line. FM
