  1. Last summer(7/19) I was out and saw a fish wallowing and thrashing in the surface. As I got closer I could see the space between the dorsal and tail fins and it seemed as it was easily pushing 24" long. Bass or pickeral I couldn't say. Just as I closed in on it the fish thrashed violently and disappeared leaving behind this appx. 12" perch. I figured somehow the spines caught in its throat and it was struggling to regurgitate.
  2. Anyone that's looking for cheap real protection lurenet has 'lindy' branded baitcast reel covers for $1.55 ea. The size is listed as 'small' however they do fit my 200b's with a little room to spare. Also to get to free ship at $25 i grabbed a few booyah flex2 cranks for 3.50 ea(only 2 colors at this price).
  3. Cruise over to the fleamarket and buy the 7.4 'k' @waymont is selling for $135.
  4. Couple pics from recent trips. 1st is a 3-8 I caught today the best of 8 on a spinnerbait, 2nd pic a 3-1 from last thurs. Also on a spinnerbait.
  5. I use two size 4's on all my double willows.
  6. Got out 8-1 today. Caught 6, 1 on a plopper,1 on a Frog and 4 on a spinnerbait with the best at 4-1.
  7. Up to Maine for the last time this year.? slow start to the week, lots of swipers but got this 3-0 on a buzzbait
  8. For 'non pad' mat frogging i like to buzz toads. As for using hollow bodied frogs for this I like to upsize my frog. (snagproof frogzilla for me) and i also like the weed demon. I don't bother trying to walk it however just twitch it back.like a frog. Even with the kinda crappy hooks I like the way the weighted tail gets down thru the mat giving them something to see and grab.
  9. Yea I think that was the right decision. For me anything that gets retrieved with the reel is 5 or 6 g.r. and anything that gets moved with the rod gets 7 or 8 g.r.
  10. I picked up this rod a couple months ago for 75 bucks when midway had that crazy sale and so far have been very happy with it. While I've not stuck any pigs with it yet I like how it feels In hand as well as how it loads and drives the hooks home.
  11. I'm throwing a buzzbait to start. Why? Cuz it's a buzzbait. From there I'm going to a willow leaf spinnerbait. Then a bladed jig. If that gets bit then i might backtrack to a colorado spinnerbait. Then I'd go to a bottom bait. If course of there is pads or algae mats then a frog or toad gets thrown into the mix as well.
  12. Couple pics from this week. 1st one is a 3-8 from tues. On a double wide beaver and 2nd a 3-10 on a buzzbait from a quick 20 min. before work bank trip this a.m.
  13. could just be that particular body of water. Theres one place I go that the bass all seem to have more pronounced teeth than most. Heres a zoomed in pic of 1 I took last year.
  14. Only if I'm desperately trying to avoid a skunk.
  15. Got out today about 8-2. Boated 16 with 2 dinks on a buzzbait and 1 on a spinnerbait. But it was the double wide beaver that did the most damage getting 13 with a 4-7 and 4-2 the best of the day.
  16. Been prett slackadaisical about posting pics ( or anything else) the last month or so. To hot to type I guess?. Anyway stopped to take a few casts after work tonite and got this 3-10 on a choppo.
  17. Pretty much most if not all major rod makers will have A 3 digit number for all their rods with the 3rd number representing the power and the first 2 the length. The difference is some will do feet and inches and some do total inches. So a 704 from 1 maker and an 844 from another would both be 7 ft. 4 powers.
  18. I to have set the hook when I felt the fish only to have my bait come back without a leg or sometimes both legs. This to me is the toughest thing with toads; with hollow frogs I cut back legs, tails, skirts, everything that extends beyond the hooks but you can't do this with toads. Oh and I just recently bought 30 packs of toads so im not giving up either?
  19. For me it's anywhere from 0- 50% depending how they're hitting It. As bluebassr said i think alot of misses are little guys swatting at it. Its when 5 or 6 lbers are jumping over the top of the bait it gets frustrating.I also use a 5/0 ewg but was thinking about going back to double hooks because I've had such bad hookup % the last couple years.
  20. Placed an order (about $80) on the 31st. Shipped on the 1st got here(Mass.)today with free ground shipping.
  21. Buzzbait for me. A stated by others it goes where a plopper can't and it also has stood the test of time with me.2 years ago i caught a bunch of nice bass on a plopper last year 1 nice one and this year I don't think I've caught a single fish on one. This refers to largemouth as i couldn't keep the smallies off of my 110 choppo on my trip up north earlier this summer.
  22. Big bite baits has a few hats on sale for 6-9 bucks.
  23. R.I. double wide beaver
  24. Crankbait: a spinnerbait is my crank. Jerkbait: not a big jbait guy but pointers work for me. Topwater: cant live without my buzzbaits. Soft plastic: it's just about punching season so I gotta have my double wide beavers.
