  1. I've become a minimalist for kayak fishing. Light kayak under 70lbs, Paddle, 1-2 planos, 2-3 rods, anchor and/or stake out pole, water bottle, ketch board. phone, tools and first aid kit in PFD. I don't even bring a crate most times now.
  2. In my experience with a GPS trolling motor, there is still a need for a shallow water anchor. spot lock doesn't work great in really shallow water. a 6ft anchor pole is only going to work up to about 4.5' of water. So it comes down to what type of fishing you are doing. I've also heard those motorguide motors can go a little crazy trying to hold a spot because kayaks are so light.
  3. they only sell bulk packs in 5 colors, so those must be the best sellers. I use 3 of those 5.
  4. It's too bad there isn't a crescent dealer within 100 miles of Chicago. I probably would've bought a CK1. Instead I bought a Nucanoe Flint, another good creek boat
  5. I bought that rod last year and it's now my favorite spinning rod. It can handle wacky senkos but I mostly use it for ned rigs. 30 size pflueger president XT or supreme is a good match
  6. pelicans are thermoformed. out of that list the radar would be my choice. you can actually paddle that hull too. I wouldn't want to paddle any of the others. it also has a replaceable skid plate for dragging. I have the same plate on several wilderness kayaks and they hold up well to dragging
  7. on my boat I have probably a 36" long heavy metal board laying on the floor. It's a Lund so more cockpit space than a bass boat. my kayaks have slots for a hawg trough/ketch board. my row boat has a sticker on the middle bench seat.
  8. pro tip: you only eat the edge pieces when it's hot. save the middles for leftover cold pizza
  9. the house bought austin kayak's inventory after they went out of business last year. I think that's where the random fishing stuff came from. I'd be afraid they wouldnt ship it properly.
  10. best in what way? Hobie probably has the best ergonomics and the mirage drive can be better for shallow water and weeds because you can flutter. bike/prop drives probably can get you more top end speed but need more depth and can get choked with weeds. Old town and Native seem to be the most reliable bike/prop style.
  11. pflueger sizes are different than shimano/diawa. a 20 size pflueger is the smallest they make, smaller than a 1000 size in other brands. a 30 size is slightly smaller than a 2500 size and it's what I use exclusively for bass/pike/walleye and they balance the best on a medium or medium light rod. a 35 would be better suited for a medium heavy rod I dont know about the regular president but I've used the president XT and LE with zero issues. they frequently go on sale for $49 at BPS or Amazon. you get a sealed drag, lighter reel and faster gear ratio than the regular president
  12. This was my first Illinois smallmouth that I am aware of. Caught from the shore of the fox river. landed 4 that day around 12". I'm pretty bored of the lakes around here so I am going to be hitting the rivers more often for brown bass
  13. you dont have to use that exact container either. go to walmart or home depot and find a plastic bin that works best for your baits
  14. I have some 4 premiers and a few mojos. premiers are made in wisconsin and are not technique specific. mojo made in mexico with slightly better graphite and technique specific for bass. I also like the victory and eyecon rods. for spinning rod I'd take a eyecon over a mojo bass. casting mojo. for multispecies and general purpose use the premiers are great
  15. Depends on what line you are using. a fast rod with mono works fine with chatterbaits. braid I'd use moderate fast graphite or glass
  16. what size do you use? the 3.8" will fit in these flambeau boxes if you cut down the original blister packs. that way you can keep the in the blister packs and hopefully not crush them. https://www.amazon.com/Flambeau-Tackle-Super-Half-Organizer/dp/B0060JNORG/ref=asc_df_B0060JNORG/ the rage swimmer packs are smaller and fit without cutting like you have to with keitech
  17. They took the gander name off most of them around here. just says camping world and maybe overtons too on the side
  18. That's BS. Pflueger has been part of pure fishing since 2007. plenty of people have used and liked the quality of the reels between then and now.
  19. The Victory rods are different from the other model lines. I used the Victory 7'3MXF all year and it worked great for 1/16oz neds and 5" wacky senkos. It handled large smallmouth extremely well. I think there is also a Victory 6'10MXF if you wanted a shorter rod. In the other rod series you'd probably want a medium lite for neds and a medium for wacky. For neds I also use the eyecon 7'0MLF and rage 6'10MLXF. The 6'10MLXF would be my choice for creeks and smaller fish. Wacky I use a medium fast premier or rage. Rage are similar to the current Mojo Bass.
  20. Of course the Supreme goes on sale after I bought two President LE's. I've had excellent reliability with all Pflueger reels from the Trion up to the Supreme XT over various generations. I don't do anything to maintain them either. The only one that I recall going bad was user error; I left it in the rod locker and exposed to too much moisture for an extended period of time.
  21. as far as I can tell they are the same except the handle knob is wood instead of cork and you have a different color frame. they've been making the limited edition as far back as 2016.
  22. Pflueger President XT Limited Edition are $49.97 at Bass Pro and Cabela's. You can get another $10 off with the code save10. I ordered 2 of the 30 size. Cant beat it for $45 each
  23. pescador pro or regular pescador? either way perception is made in USA
  24. I dont think that model is out yet. Are you sure you're thinking of the same one?
