Best mainline and leader combo for drop shot?
You’re doing everything right. Either tie to a micro swivel or try Rebarb hooks and T rig your bait.

I keep losing Strike King lures.
Check the ramp supports on your tip. Twirl the lure in a circle numerous times then look at the line to rule that out.Where’s Columbo when you need him?

Returning to bass fishing after ten years: what's changed?
Way more congestion on the water. Licenses have gone up. Ike doesn’t scream as much now. Smallmouth have taken a more prominent place in the sport. Johnny Morris bought the state of Missouri to enlarge his empire. Roland put on a few pounds. New technology developed a system where you put on a pair of goggles that are connected to 3D imaging to you can see the fish, program your cast and watch the fish eat the bait. In between casts you can watch reruns of Jaws and Jurassic Park. Other than that it’s been pretty static.

Advice for learning to skip baits
I skip with a baitcaster. I started with a jig, a half ounce with a flat bottom. I found a flat beaver style trailer helps. I set the cast control knob loose and the brakes on full to start. Twenty pound floro was my line of choice but mono while learning flows off the spool a little easier. The most critical aspect in the motion was to roll my wrist and the initial contact of the jig was much closer to me than I would have expected. Keep adjusting the speed until you find what works. I just practiced of the docks at a local launch and developed muscle memory. I found a 7’1” MH rod worked best for me. I never did curse that I recall.

Magic Baits Over The Years
Cotton Cordell Big O has to be in this conversation. So does the Norman Deep Little N and the Rebel Ring Worm. The original Arkie Jig gets an honorable mention.

Cops, Sheriffs, Deputy's, any LEO
I can honestly say that the kind gestures, cards, and other shows of appreciation mean more to all first responders than you’ll ever know and that goes for dispatchers! Twenty five years of wearing the badge took a toll on me and I pray for all those serving every day. Enough said. Thanks JB.

Graphite vs Aluminum frame preference/questions
Yes. Alignment of the drive train turned them into coffee grinders in a year. Must have machined aluminum frames.

Favorite flipping hook
Owner 4X Jungle Flippin hook in 5/0 or the Gamakatsu Heavy Cover in the same size. Some baits line up better with a super line EWG in 4/0.
