  1. I've got a few, my son always says I hook the weirdest stuff. Delaware river hooked a dead lamprey, that was pleasant Caught a mussel too on a ned rig, same thing it was clamped down inside it. Had an epic battle with a 5 gallon bucket bottom fishing in the Ambrose channel by the Verrazano bridge. Tog fishing in Cape May, hooked a pair of horseshoe crabs in the mating position, that was a first in many years of fishing. Wouldn't ya know about a hr later did the same thing again. Friend of mine who's not a good fisherman was fishing the Delaware river with me in my tin boat. He finally hooks up and is having a good fight in the current, finally manages to bring it up to the net, a real beauty of a 20" sock
  2. Saw this in the morning and my heart sank. I’m not a big contributor by any means here but have read most everything since getting back into freshwater after over 30 years of mostly fishing the salt. Reading Tom’s stories of fishing those California reservoirs back in the day for truly trophy size bass were a firsthand history lesson. If I saw a response or thread with WRB on it I always read it. He truly walked the walk, he will be missed. Prayers to his family, hopefully they know how much he meant to the people here.
  3. Wow,,,crazy that this just came back up, last night I was researching campgrounds on Lake Champlain. Always wanted to fish there and time is running out. Trying to see where there can be some protection from wind and was checking Grand Isle campground in Vermont. Being in a kayak kinda need some place to hide from the wind. Over the years have had many days and sometimes whole trips where we could't get out at all due to wind, when planning trips months in advance ain't much you can do due to the weather. Just gotta role with it, and make sure your with friends who aren't whiners. Also helps having plenty of beer
  4. Hope ya'll have a Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.
  5. The thing I've forgotten the most is re-tightening my drag after retying or pulling out a tangle. It results in me trying out new combinations of "words" after setting the hook.
  6. Jeez, was watching the game and I was like the Packers are going to win. So near the end they went to commercial break so I figure I'd close my eyes for a minute. Woke up and the news was on, figured oh well and went to bed. Didn't find out that da Bears pulled it out until this morning
  7. Well thanks BayouSlide, I'm able to get there with Firefox, copy the link and tried it in Chrome and still get the 403 error .
  8. Hmmm, reading about these Edge rods got me interested to check them out. When I go to the Edge website this is what I'm getting; Error 403 - Forbidden
  9. I was just going to post the same thing, only I've been fishing them for 50 years !
  10. Well I told myself I didn't need any more tackle, oh well. Susquehanna Fishing Tackle had some stuff on sale I've been looking at for a while. Wanted to try the Flex Gill and Drift Fly's and they had em on sale. Needed to add some other stuff for free shipping. I've tried blade baits and haven't caught on them, just lose em on snags, going give em one more try. Sorry for the crappy pictures;
  11. Brought these during a one day sale on Fish USA, get a Salmon/Steelhead rod and get a Okuma reel "free". Got the 9’6” light rod and the 3000 reel, not doing any Steelhead fishing, this is for fishing the Shad run on the Delaware river from shore. Never had a Okuma reel, seems smooth out of the box, I'll see how it performs this spring. I'll put on Suffix 832 6lb and a 6lb Tatsu fluoro leader. Maybe even try a float and fly, only been thinking about that for over 30 years
  12. Same as the past decade; just be able to kayak, camp and fish.
  13. The past 10 years have been terrible That play pretty much encapsulates the Giants experience, at least we might have a quarterback.
  14. I had no idea we hired Charlie Brown as our kicker
  15. The Giants really put on a clinic on special teams play that game. In over 60 years of watching football I've never seen a kicker drive his foot into the ground and completely miss the ball
  16. Ha!! I broke my glasses on Friday, I read the title as fishing tips, not fighting tips Well, I guess you have to hook em before ya fight em,,,,,,,,,,
  17. I'm a spinning reel guy 100% in freshwater. Not much I can add to what all the hammers here have already except one. Counting, which started a long time ago throwing countdown Rapala's. I do it now with almost all baits, of course not top waters or frogs. My first casts now I count down to the bottom. Then adjust to whatever part of the water column is working. Once I know the rate I can stop right before the bottom, if fishing a drop shot I know when to stop so I'm right on the bottom without too much line going out as I fish a lot of rocky bottom. Also I know if the bottom is a 25 count, and my line stops going out at 15, set the hook!! I guess one other thing is just being aware what is going on around you on the water, something look off, a rise, nervous water, current seams in a river, eddies, weed edges, types of weed, breaks, birds. Just enjoy the day you have on the water, you never know which one will be your last.
  18. Have an interest in Da Bears, as Kyle Monangai is from my small town. Giants have their "super bowl" this Monday against the Patriots, hopefully they can do what they've done against them in actual super bowls.
  19. I hate concede that it's over, but it's over for me It's been cold, it's been windy and now it's raining and in 2 days I'll be 73. Kayak's been put away for the winter. Top baits for me this year: 2.75" Keitech Swing Fat Impact on a 1/8oz ball head. 5" dinger wacky rigged. Zman trd on a Neg rig, hadn't used it much till late summer, caught a lot on it. Drop shot got some, but not like the last couple of years for me.
  20. Jades Jigs has 30% off the entire site. These are all non lead jigs, they are a Bismuth/Tin alloy. I've only have used their ned rigs, but they are high quality 5
  21. Happy Thanksgiving to all here! Were only having 5 people here this year, wife is cooking for 20
  22. Screech Owl hanging out in my backyard, picture not great
