New year day meal
French toast with real maple syrup, thick cut bacon, pretty much the only time we have it all year. Son's doing a tenderloin in the oven for dinner with roasted broccoli and roasted potatoes

Would you allow a fishing guide to use your video footage
Never been in that situation, I guess it would depend on the experience. The only times I've used a guide was back in the 80's salmon fishing on Lake Ontario trolling. A bunch of us would go up there in the fall, one year we were unable to use the guide we've been using so had to find another one. This wasn't easy back then with no internet. We book this one, get up there and go on his boat, first we notice is he has an ankle monitor on Turned out to be ok, but was a little bit un-nerving at first

Kayakers why?
73 yrs old now, had boats pretty much my whole life both fresh and salt. Been in a kayak now for over 20 years, due to an accident involving a boat and was informed by my mother and wife absolutely no more boats!! I was lucky to have one of the forerunners of kayak fishing here in the northeast living close by. He was selling sot kayaks out of his backyard at first then moved up to having a storefront. He also had a quite active forum where a lot of stuff now taken for granted was first figured out, like can you have a fishfinder on a kayak, can a trolling motor be mounted on a kayak. Unfortunately that website has been lost, there was a ton of history on there on the beginnings of kayak fishing here in the northeast. Compare to many on here I'm still pretty basic, strictly a paddler, a 2d fishfinder with gps mapping and a handheld vhf radio. Do I miss being on a boat sometimes, yeah, the ability to stand and stretch, be able to make a run miles away. Being in a kayak though puts me more in touch with my surroundings, concentrate on small area's, and quite frankly more challenging to me. So I've seen both sides of boating and kayaking, there are great conscious participants on both sides, unfortunately there are also jerks too on both sides. Don't get me started on jet skis

Weirdest catch of all time…
I've got a few, my son always says I hook the weirdest stuff. Delaware river hooked a dead lamprey, that was pleasant Caught a mussel too on a ned rig, same thing it was clamped down inside it. Had an epic battle with a 5 gallon bucket bottom fishing in the Ambrose channel by the Verrazano bridge. Tog fishing in Cape May, hooked a pair of horseshoe crabs in the mating position, that was a first in many years of fishing. Wouldn't ya know about a hr later did the same thing again. Friend of mine who's not a good fisherman was fishing the Delaware river with me in my tin boat. He finally hooks up and is having a good fight in the current, finally manages to bring it up to the net, a real beauty of a 20" sock

Rest in Peace @ WRB-2.0
Saw this in the morning and my heart sank. I’m not a big contributor by any means here but have read most everything since getting back into freshwater after over 30 years of mostly fishing the salt. Reading Tom’s stories of fishing those California reservoirs back in the day for truly trophy size bass were a firsthand history lesson. If I saw a response or thread with WRB on it I always read it. He truly walked the walk, he will be missed. Prayers to his family, hopefully they know how much he meant to the people here.

Bass Fishing Memes ***PG ONLY***
- Lake Champlain
Wow,,,crazy that this just came back up, last night I was researching campgrounds on Lake Champlain. Always wanted to fish there and time is running out. Trying to see where there can be some protection from wind and was checking Grand Isle campground in Vermont. Being in a kayak kinda need some place to hide from the wind. Over the years have had many days and sometimes whole trips where we could't get out at all due to wind, when planning trips months in advance ain't much you can do due to the weather. Just gotta role with it, and make sure your with friends who aren't whiners. Also helps having plenty of beer- Merry Christmas
Hope ya'll have a Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.- What have you forgotten?
The thing I've forgotten the most is re-tightening my drag after retying or pulling out a tangle. It results in me trying out new combinations of "words" after setting the hook.- Road To The Superbowl 2026
Jeez, was watching the game and I was like the Packers are going to win. So near the end they went to commercial break so I figure I'd close my eyes for a minute. Woke up and the news was on, figured oh well and went to bed. Didn't find out that da Bears pulled it out until this morning- The latest sale thread
Well thanks BayouSlide, I'm able to get there with Firefox, copy the link and tried it in Chrome and still get the 403 error .- The latest sale thread
Hmmm, reading about these Edge rods got me interested to check them out. When I go to the Edge website this is what I'm getting; Error 403 - Forbidden- $500 Rod OR Reel

I was just going to post the same thing, only I've been fishing them for 50 years !- Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Well I told myself I didn't need any more tackle, oh well. Susquehanna Fishing Tackle had some stuff on sale I've been looking at for a while. Wanted to try the Flex Gill and Drift Fly's and they had em on sale. Needed to add some other stuff for free shipping. I've tried blade baits and haven't caught on them, just lose em on snags, going give em one more try. Sorry for the crappy pictures;- Latest,Rods & Reels Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Brought these during a one day sale on Fish USA, get a Salmon/Steelhead rod and get a Okuma reel "free". Got the 9’6” light rod and the 3000 reel, not doing any Steelhead fishing, this is for fishing the Shad run on the Delaware river from shore. Never had a Okuma reel, seems smooth out of the box, I'll see how it performs this spring. I'll put on Suffix 832 6lb and a 6lb Tatsu fluoro leader. Maybe even try a float and fly, only been thinking about that for over 30 years- What are your 2026 fishing goals?
Same as the past decade; just be able to kayak, camp and fish.- Road To The Superbowl 2026
The past 10 years have been terrible That play pretty much encapsulates the Giants experience, at least we might have a quarterback.- Road To The Superbowl 2026

The Giants really put on a clinic on special teams play that game. In over 60 years of watching football I've never seen a kicker drive his foot into the ground and completely miss the ball- Bass Fighting Tips
Ha!! I broke my glasses on Friday, I read the title as fishing tips, not fighting tips Well, I guess you have to hook em before ya fight em,,,,,,,,,,- Bass Fighting Tips
I'm a spinning reel guy 100% in freshwater. Not much I can add to what all the hammers here have already except one. Counting, which started a long time ago throwing countdown Rapala's. I do it now with almost all baits, of course not top waters or frogs. My first casts now I count down to the bottom. Then adjust to whatever part of the water column is working. Once I know the rate I can stop right before the bottom, if fishing a drop shot I know when to stop so I'm right on the bottom without too much line going out as I fish a lot of rocky bottom. Also I know if the bottom is a 25 count, and my line stops going out at 15, set the hook!! I guess one other thing is just being aware what is going on around you on the water, something look off, a rise, nervous water, current seams in a river, eddies, weed edges, types of weed, breaks, birds. Just enjoy the day you have on the water, you never know which one will be your last.- Road To The Superbowl 2026
Have an interest in Da Bears, as Kyle Monangai is from my small town. Giants have their "super bowl" this Monday against the Patriots, hopefully they can do what they've done against them in actual super bowls. - Lake Champlain
