  1. Feel, works for me. I have mine set pretty tight for the hook set, then adjust as needed.
  2. Look like Snausages
  3. I go for the pickles too!
  4. Well this weather is dark beer time. First up was Schatten / Seed collaboration German Schwarzbier, d**n good. Second was Firestorm Walker Wookey Jack, a dark Rye IPA, another home run!! Watching the NFL super bowl highlights on the NFL network with John Facenda , Hank Stram is a riot on the sideline, man I miss old time football!
  5. I really don't keep any fish to eat anymore, not that I"m against it in any way. I"m just lazy, I consider it work. I'm long time disciple of Charlie Brewer and his "do nothing" approach, it seems to have carried over to other aspects of my life
  6. I usually go to meet up with some fishing buddies I haven't seen since the fall. We walk around and bust each others chops and have a bunch of laughs. Might buy some small stuff I don't see anywhere else. I do like to try out rods from the manufactures, since I need to have them in my hands. I can't tell how I'll like them until holding them, just can't go by descriptions. I agree, pretty much no deals, the cost of the booths, moving all the inventory, paying all the staff adds up.
  7. There were a few, hopefully they were all in the past. Night whiting fishing in January in the Atlantic ocean on a party boat, was fishing in the stern and coffee was blowing out of my cup, it was blowing and temp in the high 20's. Fishing on the Delaware River as a hurricane was coming in, rain and wind, caught a sunfish and as I had him reeled in it took off like a kite blowing above my rod tip. We were fishing right below where a creek came in and it was non-stop action with channel cats. A ranger came down and said are you guys out of your minds, we pulled up our stringer and showed him it full of nice channels and he just shook his head and said just be careful. Was a white knuckle ride home though. Shark fishing at night in the Mud Hole, sudden thunderstorm came in, lightning hitting the water around the boat, water was like a washing machine. We were with a guy on his boat who I was told he knew what he was doing, he turned to me and said what do I do! I said it's time to put on the life jackets, I really thought we would be going down. Tog fishing in our kayaks, me and my son, bad timing as I screwed up and it was a super moon tide. It was getting real sloppy we said we better get back to the launch, which usually is a 30 minute paddle. I thought we were making ground as my gps said we were doing around .6 , next thing we realize were getting pulled into the shoals, waves were breaking around us as we were actually doing .6 backwards. The paddle back took us 2 hrs of constant hard paddling against an outgoing tide, my son asked what channel do we call for the coast guard when we got back to the launch, it was that close.
  8. What he said pretty much covers it, just remember the life jacket too. My kids got me a new pair of dry pants for Christmas, my old pair was leaking and there was a sale on NRS. I use those in combination with a dry top and belt. The coldest I've gone kayaking was 11 degrees, but that was over 10 years ago. Just remember that it's the temp of the water not the air.
  9. Got my licence in 69, first snow storm my father told me to go to community pool parking lot around the corner. He said see how it handles in the snow, slam the brakes, hit the gas, turn the wheel, spin it around, just don't hit the light poles! This was in my first car, a 58 Chevy Bel-Air, lesson's stayed with me till this day.
  10. Best thing that has happened for the Giants in a dozen+ years
  11. I would love to see Andy Montgomery win, fished all day today not using ffs, not that there is anything wrong with that
  12. I've tried tying at home at the work bench, so-so at best. My rule of thumb is I have to be able to tie a knot on my kayak, in the wind and current. Alberto is my braid to leader knot, so far it's worked out for me. I'd rather knot have to do it on the kayak, but have when needed to. Like many here, eyes ain't what they used to be, well like other things too
  13. "I hope the flux works out better for you than the gilly for me." Well I hope so too, and if not It will just be another addition to the island of misfit lures 😃

Man that is sad, 58 is way too young.
  15. I'm not one to tell anyone what to use, but I do have one new one I'm gonna try this year, Berkeley Flux Gill. After fishing one of "my" lakes this past fall the amount of small blue gills was unreal. There were so many of them is spots they were just running into my line constantly. Saw these and convinced myself I need these, we'll see if they work.
  16. I'm having the same issues as a couple of other users here. I'm unable to sign in, menu only opens on the main page. This is happening in Chrome, I'm logged in now using Firefox. I've done all the cache cleaning and issue still exists. Also I'm old and using Windows 7.
  17. I don't think I'd be able or even want to. I"m a 100% freshwater finesse spin fisherman, for over 60 years. I would need to replace all my gear to become a power fisherman, somehow acquire a new mind set. I do saltwater fish too, but that's a whole different game, though lately I have been using freshwater gear for inshore fluke fishing. Bottom fishing in over 40' of water with a ripping tide for tog ain't no place for finesse.
  18. Welcome, post a pic of your jon boat ! Private community pond? there's a bunch of them up in that area. Friend of mine has access to some, it's great to fish them.
  19. I'm giving them one more try this year, haven't been able to catch on them, I just get them hung up on the bottom, then get frustrated and stop using them.
  20. I carry a Dr. Slick sharpener in my life vest. Give em the old fingernail test now and then, or especially if I get hung up or lose a fish. Trebles get changed out, too much for me to try and sharpen them on freshwater. Saltwater I'll sharpen em off the water with a file, most of those a 3x or 4x so I can actually see what I'm doing.
  21. I learned why I never made the cover GQ
  22. I do have to say after many years of using braid with a leader it took awhile to get used to using pure mono. Not sure how to put it into words, but the "hits" are a lot softer, don't feel every tick, definitely need to be a more conscious line watcher.
  23. I went back to my roots this year with an ultra light outfit with a 6' St. Croix trout rod and 4 lb Trilene XL. I've landed some nice fish with this, granted I'm throwing this in clear, snag free water.

I've been using Mustad Fastach clips for a while. Being on a kayak I have some rods that are multi-purpose as I don't like bringing more than 4 rods with me. Also just allows me less time to put a similar bait on and I take all the split rings off my hard baits. Though this past year I've been having issues using the Fastachs, could be arthritis in my hand, bad eyesight or just plain ole user error. If the bait I tie on is a little larger than what I originally set it up for it's a real pia to get a larger eye tie on em. I'm going to try some Owner Hyper snaps this year. Fishing Neds and finesse jigs I do like to tie direct.
