Why does it seem like so many people are against them?  Not everyone has the dexterity to tie knots for every lure change.🤷🏼‍♂️

I’m not against them. I think it’s a preference issue with most. For me it’s not dexterity as much as eye sight issues. I have 1 eye that got damage from a retina separation situation. I still tie direct with some applications like top water but if I know I’ll be switching jigs for various depth changes or faster current then I go with something easier.

You do you and have fun

I like them for quick changes in color or size when I'm cranking.

They can make things easier at times. I’m just not a fan at all using them on jerkbaits, countdowns, floaters and stuff like that.

I use a clip on all treble hook lures. Straight tie on all single hook lures.

I also use them when crank baiting.  Which honestly is not very often.

I’m with @RFSims I like them on lures that wobble, I think I get a little bit more action out of them.  I tie my Texas rigged stuff, with bullet weight.

This is what I use. Once said I would neve use a snap, tried it 3 years ago and now I use it on all my crankbait rods. I think I catch more fish because I can take off a crank and have another on in 6 seconds. I don't ever remember losing a fish because of the snap and really don't think it changes the action.

I use them when throwing jerk baits. I don’t do it a ton but that’s what I use.

Agreed, they're awesome, especially when every second counts (tournaments), bait swaps in seconds. I have one rod that always has one on used for squarebills, spooks, finesse spinnerbaits, and small chatters like the mini max.

I use them for pretty much everything..as I was greatly influenced by Japanese fishing....and they use it for everything.

This is my preferred, tiny, 41lbs snap

That clip is what I started using, The cheap ones the metal has a larger dia and can be hard to attach.

I use the smallest size of this style, from Topwater Co. I use them on all treble hooked baits but my smallest jerkbaits and only on my larger topwater baits. Any other crank, lipless, or jerkbait gets one of those snaps. I can tie a knot no problem, but I like to be able to quickly rotate between baits without retying. It's a very valuable asset in a kayak when rods are limited to be able to switch between different baits without having 20 rods on the deck. It 100% contributes to me catching more and bigger fish and I can think of plenty of specific examples of fish that I wouldn't have caught if I wasn't using a snap.

I use them for lure action when needed, and firmly believe they should not be used to replace tying knots.

I've been using Mustad Fastach clips for a while. Being on a kayak I have some rods that are multi-purpose as I don't like bringing more than 4 rods with me.

Also just allows me less time to put a similar bait on and I take all the split rings off my hard baits.

Though this past year I've been having issues using the Fastachs, could be arthritis in my hand, bad eyesight or just plain ole user error. If the bait I tie on is a little larger than what I originally set it up for it's a real pia to get a larger eye tie on em.

I'm going to try some Owner Hyper snaps this year.

Fishing Neds and finesse jigs I do like to tie direct.

And I'd say the Spro version is the best of the bunch in that style.

I'll admit, I'm lazy when it comes to tying knots, plus, I always (in my feeble mind) felt like I'm wasting line when I retie every time. And I hate having a bunch of rods underfoot on the boat deck. I use clips for everything but Texas rigs. Yep...I'm lazy. JMHO.

Doesn’t the snap weigh down the front of the jerk bait? I would tend to think added weight in the front would affect the action of a finely tuned lure that requires neutral buoyancy.

It does for some.  I check it near the boat.  Usually they're tuned for the weight of the split ring, so if the clip changes things, I'll pull the split ring.  That puts me back in the tuned range.

I use snaps for moving baits that have treble hooks.  Everything else gets tied directly to the line.

90% of the time I’m throwing a Megabass Vision 110. IMO the small snap I use helps  the lure to suspend.
