  1. I have done this. Go to Wal Mart. They usually have some el cheapo reels for $10 or less. Get one of them and leave it in the package. When I did the trade in it was at BPS. They will have a greeter when you come in to give the reel to. They will give you a trade in certificate to give to the cashier when you purchase the new reel to get the discount.
  2. Hello and welcome to the forum.
  3. There is no answer that will be right for all baits. Most of the crankbaits I use come with size 2 split rings. When I have to replace them I go to a size 3. Size 2 is too small and hard to work with for me even with the split ring pliers I use.
  4. The problem is when you fish alone and you get the boat on the trailer you have to be able to get out of the boat and on the ground to get to the truck so you can pull it up out of the way.
  5. Hello and welcome to the forum.
  6. I had knee replacement surgery on both knees in the last 4 months. I have been wondering how difficult will it be for me to get in and out of my boat once on the trailer. I am glad to see there may be some helpful options.
  7. We have a Sportsmans Warehouse here. they will have a better selection. Not a great selection. Their prices will be as high as DSG or BPS.
  8. Glad things are going as well as they are for you.
  9. Don't bet on getting any help from BPS. I went to a BPS that was fairly new several years ago and tried to get some info on 1998 Tracker. They said they didn't have anything on one that old.
  10. Yes this an easy lube setup on these trailers. There should be a rubber cover that fits in the hole in that dust cap. You do need to take it apart and clean out the hub and bearings to check out what there condition is. You will need to replace the seals and the dust cap. Once I take the dust cap off of my trailer it always is too loose to fit right. I would take the parts to a parts supplier to make sure they match up everything as it should be. You can take it to a marine dealer and they will take care of your hubs and bearings but it will be fairly expensive. During the year you will need to pump grease into them ocasionally. I take mine apart every other year but it doesn't get a lot of heavy use.
  11. I used 14# mono for backing and then put 20# braid on a 2000 size Shimano Spirex spinning reel. Not had any problems so far but it has not been used a lot so far.
  12. The Academy closest to me is near Louisville, Ky. about 75 miles away.
  13. Why not try merthiolate colored trick worms?
  14. Sorry for the loss of your son. Prayers sent for you and the family.
  15. Glad to hear everything is okay for you now. Hope it continues to improve.
  16. I use the OL Monster and Mag 2 worms a lot with good luck. I bought a pack black 8" Big Dead Ringers in black last year. Only got to use them once and caught a SMB on it.
  17. My wife and I stopped in a DSG yesterday since she was wanting a new exercise bike. We actually did have someone come over and try to help us. The only way to get one she wanted was to order it online. We then walked over to the fishing dept. Found out it has very little in it now. I have more stuff for fishing than they do. Looked like the hunting section was about gone too. I am about 10 minutes from Sportsmans Warehouse and Cabelas. I will still buy from our local tackle shop when I can.
  18. It would a jig in PB&J color with a matching Zoom Twin Tail Grub or an Ultra Vibe Speed Craw for a trailer.
  19. My brother and I got caught in a storm when we were about 10 miles from the boat ramp. Found out after we got home they had a tornado warning for the area we were in. Got caught another time when we were only about a mile from the ramp. It rained really hard and lightning was hitting about 1/4 to 1/2 mile away from us. We had to ride out both storms where we were since there was no place to go for shelter.
  20. I am about an hour away from Taylorsville Lake or Cedar Creek lake. There are some closer spots I like to fish on the Ky River but fishing has been very poor there the last few years. I can be on a couple of creeks in about 30 minutes I fish if I don't want to make a long drive.
  21. I would use a size 3 split ring. A lot of baits come with a size 2 but it is so small they are hard to work with. I do use split ring pliers and they do help.
  22. Like others have posted I try to always start with a crankbait. I didn't get to fish a lot last year. When I did go the 6TH Sense crush 50 and Spro Little Johns caught them. I rarely use a crankbait that runs more than 12' deep.
  23. Another little young snot nosed brat. Another 18 years and you will be where I am now. Happy Birthday.
  24. Hello and welcome to the forum.
  25. I might take the side plate off and take the spool out to oil the bearings before I use it. I don't do anything else with it until I see how it performs. I've had more problems with Abu Garcia reels needing to be lubricated than any other brand I have tried.
