I do about the same thing @jbsoonerfan does. I will cut some some line off and retie after a while fishing. If nothing else I cut off 5' to 10' of line after every trip. I remove all of my baits when I quit fishing so it's not a big deal. I might respool with new line 2 or 3 times a season once I get down close to my filler line.

You might look at the BPS rods. I have the Cranking Stick in a 6' medium. Also have several Bionic Blades in medium and M/H that have been great. I will say all of mine are older rods. I have not tried any of the new ones. I don't like the split grips so many companies are using now but that is just my personal preference.

I use a Lews BB1 in a 5:1 gear ratio. For any crankbaits I will use a 5:1. It doesn't matter what brand it is.

Welcome to the forum. I fished with a fellow that had a 99 Nitro. It was in the 16' to 17' range. I can't remember the exact model with a 90HP motor. He wanted the front of his bunks just barely visible out of the water. He would get the boat on the trailer and I would tell him how far he needed to go to get the bow eye over the roller. Once he got real close he would have to rev up the motor to get the eye over the roller. I would hook up the winch strap and pull him out. The boat always came out right on the trailer doing it this way. You might check with a dealer to see if they can offer any other ideas.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I hope you can move up and start using a baitcaster. Personally I am not comfortable throwing crankbaits and spinnerbaits on spinning rods but they are great for light weight setups like shaky heads and small soft plastics.

I guess people in Minnesota and Michigan are never happy because you only have two seasons. Winter and July.

Instead of dealing with snow I mowed my yard for the first time this year on Tuesday. After the snow melts there is mowing waiting for you but at least it won't keep you from fishing.

I like a 4/0 RB style for trick worms. I have gone to a 3/0 RB for Baby Brush Hogs and I believe my hook up ratio has improved over using an EWG. I also use a 2/0 RB for Ultra Vibe Speed Craws. I once had a fellow that works at BPS and does a lot of fishing demos tell me the EWG was the worst hook ever invented and he didn't allow them in his boat. Just for reference I only use Gamakatsu hooks.

Fishing out of a bass boat I usually bring 6 setups. 4 baitcasters and two spinning setups. On a rare day I might add 1 more baitcaster. Since I don't fish tournaments and just fun fish these will cover everything I want to do. If I fish with someone else I usually bring 3 baitcasters and 1 spinning setup.

I usually take two spinning setups when I go fishing. Don't mind using them but only get the out when I can't get a bite on a baitcaster.

The only way anything in Mega Bass price range would end up in my tackle box would be if some body gave it to me. I have several L. C. suspending jerk baits. That is my limit on what I would spend on a bait.

They had a story on our local news a couple of weeks ago. A man and his son tried to go fishing when we were having a lot of flooding. The river was about 9' higher than normal and was really rolling with a lot of strong current. The current over took control of the boat. It got lodged against some limbs right at the dam. They were rescued okay. Said he had just bought the boat two days before that and just wanted to go fishing.

One thing nobody has mentioned is rod length. Most of them are fishing with 7' to 7'6" rods. I am using 6' rods for crankbaits. Due to bad knees I fish sitting down while every body else is standing up. My casts are mostly 50' to 75'. No way can I get the kind of casting distance everyone else is getting.

They did the same thing to me a few days ago on my first time out this year.

Finally got out to go fishing yesterday for the first time this year. The outboard motor started okay. Everything seems to be okay with the boat. Fishing is another story. Water temp around 54 and maybe a foot of visibility in the water and very windy. Caught absolutely nothing. I don't think I ever had a bite. One fellow said there weren't enough fish in the lake for all the boats that were there. Another one was leaving to go to another lake his dad was fishing. He said there was a good bite when he first got there and they just shut down. They stayed in lockjaw mode the rest of the day.

I agree the the bite is different between smaller and larger fish. For me it depends on what I'm using. If it is a smaller type of soft plastic I hit them as soon as I feel the bite. If I'm using something larger like a 10" worm I try to wait a short time before I set the hook. I've lost several fish on big worms setting the hook too quick.

3AM? There is such a time as that in the mornings?
