  1. My uncle would take us boys (me and two of his three sons...one was too young) out fishing. This started when I was about 6. End of the day first few times he'd show us how to fillet a fish. Then under his guidance, we all had a shot at it. By the end of that first year, we were all filleting like pros.
  2. It's my most used trailer - and the one I've caught my best catches on.
  3. That reminds me - I gotta get my official birth certificate from MA...gonna finally get the EDL this year.
  4. Never had a passport - only times I've been out of the country 1979 - drove into Canada with a bunch of other college astronomy geeks to watch the Solar Eclipse in Winnipeg...all we needed was our licenses back then. 1982 - while in the AF - took a MAC flight to Ramstein and spent a weekend in Kaiserslautern (my high-school German was enough to get me through). As an active duty airman - my ID was enough. 1990 - Wife's and my honeymoon. 1 week Carnival Cruise out of LA - stops in Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo san Lucus...just our IDs needed cause of the cruise line.
  5. Stay safe - don't go under cover. (did this over 4 decades ago on Lake Bemidji....never again)
  6. I used the AR switch on my reels for one thing only - letting out line when I needed more slack. Swore I'd never get a reel without it. Then I got a reel with no AR switch as a gift...and adjusted. Now it doesn't matter to me if it has it or not.
  7. MN you have to register it period - if it's powered, you have to display the reg number on the vessel like below.
  8. There's a few web-stores that for one reason or another have gottne on Glenn's 'naughty list'. We're not allowed to name them - though I have seen a couple posts where the initials of one are stated and seemingly allowed since they never get edited/deleted - nor are we allowed to post links/images/anything from those sites. And no - there's no list, so it's like Russian Roulette...you don't know if you'll be dinged or not.
  9. More and more reels are coming out without the AR switch. Don't know why, but it's the way they're moving. The new Pfluegers are also missing the AR switch now. No, your not missing something...I just lift loops off the spool without opening the bail if I need to let some line out for casting if it's short lengths, or open the bail...pulling against the drag is going to induce more line twist - something I don't recommend.
  10. Exactly - when I can order something from Digitaka, located in Kobe, Japan, and have it IN HAND within three days - and TW takes at least that long to get it out the door....something's wrong. Fleet Farm - usually have it in 2-3 days when I have it shipped. Scheels - same FishUSA - same 'unmentionable' - same Hook-up - same I'm done with TW...I can get everything they sell from someplace else faster and usually at the same or even lower price without having to whine about it.
  11. I'm a fan of the classics English Leather British Sterling
  12. I anchored all the time in the canoe - didn't seem to affect my catching. I've got a 15# mushroom anchor in the F-9 - I've lowered it over the side here and there when I want to stay on a spot for a while...doesn't seem to matter to the fish.
  13. I'm the weird one Line to lure - any line - MK knot Mainline to leader - FG if I'm pre-rigging before a trip, Alberto when I'm on the water Backing to mainline - Uni-Uni Here's the MK knot...
  14. We all know that's your wife's reel....show us yours.
  15. Even my Avocet RZT spinners get covers...in the winter, every reel is in a drawer with a cushioned bottom - neighbor was redoing his kitchen and I snagged one of the old drawer-cabinets he was throwing out. If you make a run when there's waves and don't totally secure the deck-rods down...that carpet is enough to start 'sanding' the surface.
  16. Reel covers and rod socks when they're in the locker.
  17. I don't baby them, but I don't knock them about either. If they happen to get a little boat rash, I'm not gonna cry about it...you're in the outdoor, things are gonna get a little dinged up - just the nature of the beast.
  18. Ya - once the ice is thick enough, they'll haul campers that have been modified into wheeled ice-houses out and park them. DNR recommends 20" minimum for wheeled ice-houses hauled by heavy duty trucks. The snow we got has slowed the ice development, though I have see one wheeled shanty on Cooks Bay - but right now I wouldn't put something that heavy on it. Some years back they did this particular graphic for 'safe ice conditions'.
  19. Except Yo-Zuri isn't like the rest of the co-polymers. Yo-Zuri is co-extruded, but filaments of flourocarbon are encased in a nylon base.
  20. A used Ghost runs about that much by itself - add another $800 each for the HDS-12s.
  21. I like the use of flagpole holders and crab-trap floats for the outriggers...exact same items I used on my old canoe.
  22. Pretty much waffling between #2 and #4 - with brief stops at #3.
  23. Asian Portal - ya, but add shipping and it'll be more expensive than Digitaka...$120, but free shipping. https://www.digitaka.com/item/5/4/1/4969363043320
  24. It's not that far of a jump to Cro Magnon.
