Well, these are spinners - the difference in retrieve rate is purely due to spool size as they're both 5.2:1 gear ratio.
-
The latest sale thread
Little faster retrieve than I like for finesse (25.9IPT for the 30 size vs 22.4IPT for the 25) but it should work just fine.

You'll love it - I got a President-25 on a Fury 702SF and it's a great finesse rig.

Affordable shoes/boots for wet wading
If the last mod I'm doing to the trailer doesn't keep my feet dry next spring...I'm looking at these. You wear regular shoes/boots under them...so put your work boots on, put these over those. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0055CBMPA/?coliid=I1LWFIG29QJMKQ&colid=3M9MGOWZE9YW2&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

How often to retie braid
I run braid to YZH - and like Shimano, I only retie when the leader gets too short. Start with 6', cut off and retie when it hits 2'.

Don't let the bait monkey get ya, 2020 edition
Same with the 1/8oz Owner Standups - the 1/4oz 'may' be in stock by BF, but the 1/8 aren't due till mid-Dec. Have to suffice with the 1/4s until later.

Humminbird Apex
Ya, I remember when we got a 25" back in 73 or 74 - it was HUGE compared to the old TV Best of all - IT WAS IN COLOR! (Old one was a B&W)

In between times...
Meanwhile in MN Got several inches of snow the other day - but this Thursday they're predicting 51.

Don't let the bait monkey get ya, 2020 edition
My problem is that when the wallet is empty - the monkey keeps begging for more. Though I did pick up a couple things mid-year in 2020 - maybe again in 2021...dunno

Don't let the bait monkey get ya, 2020 edition
I can attest to this - last year got a Dobyns Fury for $95 during the BF sale. I've already got about $200 of items in my wishlist - that's after the 20% markdown BTW.

Rods for Young Anglers
While a MH/F is the 'do alot' rod for casting (never 'do it all'), I consider a M/F spinning rod in that category. Light jerks/cranks, light t-rigs/jigs, wacky, finesse - even lighter spinner/chatter baits (1/4oz, 3/8oz) can be used on a M/F spinning rig with a 2500-3000 size reel. You don't have to spend a fortune either - my M/F spinning rig is a Pflueger Trion on a Diawa Aird-X - less than $100 total - and it's served me 3 seasons so far and will be used again next year...with maybe a rod upgrade (have to check the finances).

Chatterbait/Jig Question
If I've used a trailer - no matter the lure - it gets pulled off at the end of the day and checked. Still usable - back in it's original bag, to torn - trash barrel that's in the garage where I store the canoe. I never leave plastics on hooks past the end of the outing...ever.

Double fluke rig
I'm very knot-protective. I put a bobber stop between the bead and knot to protect that. Another bobber stop above the weight. Changing from pegged to un-pegged just means moving that upper one up the line a ways. The weight banging the bead on un-pegged gets me the noise.

Don't let the bait monkey get ya, 2020 edition
Oh, add to above - new sonar...if one of my relatives doesn't gift me with one...and new rods - got Sierras on my wishlist, I'd get Furys if I'm not gifted those.

Don't let the bait monkey get ya, 2020 edition
I've already got my TW wishlist filled in - transferring all that to my cart and adding the BF discount...$200. Course that includes almost $50 in replacement treble hooks for a load of crank/jerkbaits I just got (Thanks OE)

Double fluke rig
Yep - that's where the action comes from. Jerk - pause - jerk - pause. When you jerk, they close up like a pair of baitfish 'schooling'...on the pause, they separate a little. Looks like a pair of baitfish chasing and feeding on smaller things.
-
Double fluke rig
This is what I do too - a bead would also be sliding and 'knocking' against the knot...no different than just having the swivel.

Garmin Striker 7SV question...
On a rocking canoe - the touchscreen could be a pain in the butt...try to pick one thing, canoe rocks just as you're about to 'hit' it - you do something else. For that I think I prefer the 'old fashioned method'.

There's a joke in there somewhere.

Well, I'm also hoping one of the relatives will be EXTRA nice - got a Striker Plus 73SV on my wishlist. Of course that'd happen after the sale...but with the extra on the Yule check from my dad - got that this week - I can hack the extra or wait for another sale or deep discount.

12poundbass’s second annual year in review thread
Ten times more than I did, buddy. Covid-19 put a damper on it cause we couldn't get someone here to watch the wife often enough for me to get out more. Haven't been out for over a month - and I'll agree with the last part of that. Best LMB this year - 1.83# Best fish this year - 2.24# Northern This winter - upgrade a few rods, upgrade my electronics - those are the big purchases.

What’s your fishing style
Junk All depends on my mood at the moment - and yes, it can change rapidly at times. Some days I've stuck to one mode - power, moderate, finesse - other days I'm like a bouncing ball...never sticking to one for more than 30-40 minutes at a time.

Gram to Ounce Conversion
Actually - it's 28.3495 grams to the ounce. https://www.thecalculatorsite.com/conversions/common/grams-ounces.php https://www.asknumbers.com/ounces-to-grams.aspx https://www.metric-conversions.org/weight/ounces-to-grams.htm We just round up to 28.5 for ease.

Garmin Striker 7SV question...
Delving deeper - they're just adding 5 new color schemes to the available modes...not a huge change. That's it - otherwise the Plus and the Vivid are identical.
