  1. I have a KLX with cork. I see no basis for anyone to claim there is any reason to say it’s not good. I have yet to see a rod with anything better. I don’t even know what anyone even means by better. If anything, it is thicker than the cork found on other rods, which brings me back to I don’t understand the negativity???
  2. Trolled live shiner.
  3. IMO, finesse is the gear, not necessarily the bait. You are still finesse fishing if you are power fishing a UL rod, reel and line. Because when you hook the fish, the bait weight doesn’t matter anymore.
  4. Boca Bearings. They work. I like Hawgtech for price and performance, but Boca gets the edge because you can get every bearing for every reel. Smoothdrag Abec rated bearings are worth it, too. Cals drag grease and carbon Tex drags are also worth it. Expensive hooks. These are the # 1 overpriced piece of gear that will absolutely make everyone a better fisherman. If there is one thing everyone should do, it is to waste the money and get the Gamakatsus or the Owners or the VMCs they will really make a better fisherman out of everyone. Though, I also recommend only buying at the high prices from real sellers, like BPS, Dicks, etc. the internet and even small BT stores are full of counterfeits.
  5. These are problems I’d be happy to have.
  6. I agree. But after modifying a small vice grip like Alan Tani recommended, but then bending a few pins with it, because the teeth on my cheap vise grip caused some pins to get pushed on an angle, I basically had no choice.
  7. If you’re using a reel that can be damaged this way, throw it in the water and get a new one. No modern reel, at any price, will be damaged this way. Getting spooled is mostly a myth, too. Yes, I have hooked a cow nose ray on an ultralight BFS rig using 6lb braid and it was the same as hooking up with a car driving away with my line. I cut the line, but nothing broke. If you are regularly getting spooled by big northerns on your BFS ———> I’d rather be sorry than safe just to know of a place with too many big northerns around.
  8. Well, we fly Syma s107g helicopters. And there was a Bermuda Triangle area just in front of and above the old plasma TV I had. Anything flew into that zone lost control and crashed. So it could be electricity, but more likely your chair is possessed by a poltergeist.
  9. I have ordered too much stuff from hedgehog already and they are good, but way overpriced. To save a few dollars, I got this. It is solid and has never met a pin it can’t remove. It is strong enough to push the tapered ones out backwards.
  10. 44 but I lived in the city, maybe they did it here up until about 1983, but it was more often than fire drills.
  11. If you must do it, get a spool pin remover tool, the one like a Hedgehog Studios sells. Be very careful, because if the pin is tapered on one end and you punch the wrong end through, the hole will expand and it will be loose and fall out forever. Then you are stuck either gluing it in place or trying to find one from another brand reel that is ever so slightly too big and pushing it in with the tool. And be forewarned, if you plan on buying extra pins, even from quality stores like Hedgehog, or even direct from the reel maker, don’t expect them to fit 100% of the time. I have bags of 10 for every reel brand I have and even when tested on reels that came from authorized sellers that have the original pins that fit perfectly, the replacements don’t always fit. Sometimes, they’re too loose-even when you order direct from the manufacturer!
  12. The only time we went under our desks was during nuclear bomb drills, but they phased that out in second or third grade.
  13. You need a good exorcism.
  14. Yes, ebay. Also Amazon at times.
  15. No, I choose the rod that works best for me in what I’m doing. Usually that means the lightest rod that can get me the most distance and handle the weights I’m throwing and the fish I’m catching. It doesn’t always work, though (like last season),
  16. If you are a weight weenie (like me) your best bet is an Aldebaran, MGXtreme2 or Steez CT. The first 2 can be had for $275 or less new, if you look around. The Steez will be close to double that. I’d get both of the other two before getting the Steez.
  17. I like braid on that rod 6lb - 10lb.
  18. Anyone I know would be saying it has to be a ghost and your chair, tv and house are haunted.
  19. Schools closing everywhere, for weeks! when I was in school, the schools closed once, for one day ever.
  20. Big companies are usually best for rods. For reels, that’s all there is. But a handmade lure made by someone who is truly an artist will always beat mass produced.
  21. I have had several opportunities to fish every day. And yes, if you like fishing, it’s great. Other times, I had no time to fish and it sucks thinking about it. I’ll still never understand the people that fish for an hour, even if it’s every day. An hour doesn’t even count according to my clock. If it’s less than at least 4-5 hours, it’s not really fishing to me.
  22. IMO, the warranty is why they sell for less. Though, also IMO, the chances you’ll need a warranty on a major Japanese brand reel is like 1:1,000,000.
  23. I like the double paddle bent handles. But often find them too small. I like them a bit wider than they come on a lot of reels.
  24. I don’t know. It increases start up inertia a bit, but, at least for me, is the single best thing that prevents overruns.
