I haven't seen any of that on our end of the river yet, but if you are that means it's getting close. Wait...what? 🤣
- My best day this season.

I love seeing what everyone catches too. Personally, I haven't posted because I just haven't had time to fish lately. Hopefully that'll change soon. In the meantime, you keep the pictures coming to get the rest of us by.

We had a nice cool front come though last week. I know I shouldn't get my hopes up that summer is really over, but I can't help it. I headed to the river after work on Friday. This spot has been good to me for several years, but that has not been the case in 2024. I've been skunked more times than not at this particular spot in 2024 so my expectations were low. I just wanted to fish in the cooler weather. When I got to the water there was a bit of wind creating a slight chop on the water so I decided to try a spinnerbait. Good decision as I caught the largemouth below on my second cast. It was just under 2 lbs. I worked the spinnerbait downstream for a little while, but didn't get any other takers so I decided to try fishing on the bottom on my way back toward the car. I tied on a yum dinger, and caught the smallmouth in the first picture. It was right at 2 lbs. I had only been there for about 30 minutes so it was already a success at this spot for this year. This particular spot is a VERY public spot, and a popular teenage hangout on the weekend. It's where the kids come to see who has the loudest trucks, and motorcycles. They were starting to arrive so I knew I didn't have long. I decided to try a spot where I've caught some nice fish in the past. Another good decision. I caught the smallmouth below. This spot is about 6 ft above the water with rip rap bank. I knew I couldn't swing this fish up the rocks with a spinning rod & 6 lb test so I had to climb down the rocks to get it. It was quite a challenge to keep the fish pinned while climbing down the rocks with a rod in one hand, and the net in the other. I managed to get it in the net without hurting myself. I tried to figure out how to take a better picture using the phone timer, but I couldn't find it quickly enough. The fish had been out of the water longer than I like because of the time it took me to get up & down the rocks, so I just took a bad picture, and put it back in the water. Thankfully it looked strong as it swam away. Good time, and a memorable fish. Just don't tell my wife I climbed up and down the rocks to get it.

Best weight guess on this bass?
I like this one...meaning I like @Ohnooze's post the way Thor likes Capt Marvel.

Best weight guess on this bass?
@A-Jay always seems to have impeccable timing...whether it's for fishing, or clowning. 🤣 ps - That's meant as a compliment, not an insult.

Best weight guess on this bass?
I’m not very good at guessing weight, but congrats on catching a very nice fish. Here’s a calculator if you have measurements. BR fish weight calculator

A Salute To Kent, A.K.A. RoadWarrior
Well said, @Glenn. He was an excellent moderator, the best fisherman I know, and one of the most generous people I've met. I'm thankful to be allowed to fish with him, and for all that he's taught me in the short time I've known him. I also love hearing his fish tales. He always seems to have a perfect one for any situation you find yourself in. He knows I'm not a drinker, but I'll raise a cup of coffee for him! Thanks @roadwarrior! You're the man!

That dang recess bell!
Nice job! It's funny how fishing can be so different. I can't get a bite on a plopper, but if the bite is tough I'm pretty sure I can get one on a baby brush hog.

Specifically targeting Smallies
I catch largemouth, smallmouth, and spots in the TN river using mostly the same lures. Worms, grubs, craws, paddle tails, lipless, underspins, and jigs. The only real difference for me in lure selection when specifically targeting SMB is lure size. I don't usually catch SMB on extremely large lures. The primary differentiator for me is location. I catch more SMB around current, and rocks. I catch more LMB in slower moving water, and grass.
-
What's your 1 lure/2 color choice?
The bait monkey will not approve of us talking about only using one lure, and two colors. 🤣 Lure - Rage menace Colors - smokey shad, & watermelon red TX rig. They can be rigged vertically to mimic baitfish, or horizontally to mimic a craw.

Got to fish from a boat for the first time in 2 months. Just been a busy, and hot summer. We started out with temps in the upper 50s, which is rare for us in August. The fishing was hot while the temp was cool. We caught 16 before noon, and only 2 after noon. Nothing big, but the morning was a nice preview of fall. The one below had some nice markings. I caught one so small it was hilarious. I felt a strike, pulled back, felt no resistance so I let up. Then I thought I felt the line move so I pulled back again. Again, felt no resistance so I let up. I decided that I must have snagged some grass, or a stick so I reeled in and found the beast below on the hook. 🤣

Clear (transparent) Plastics…….Grubs, Worms, Swim Baits
If you can't find that color locally, Academy sports has them on their website. That specific color is usually crazy cheap on there.

Clear (transparent) Plastics…….Grubs, Worms, Swim Baits
I've used a Zoom Fat Albert that's clear with silver flake. It is truly clear plastic. It's not my best producer, but I have caught fish with it. The water I typically fish is not very clear though.
