29 May 2025 ~ A Day on Lake Minichuck (video)
I've said it before, but I'll say it again. Your big fish videos are always great, but the ones where you get to fish with your wife are your best. Congrats on the day! I hope you get more like that.

Fishing is Hard
I’ve heard it said that a good fisherman never gets skunked. They only run out of time. Fishing can be tough some days, but even the tough days fishing are more fun than work. Take care of your family, yourself (you’re probably tired), and keep casting my friend.

The latest sale thread
It was not long ago. I bought a bunch of rage swimmers on that deal. Give it time, and it’ll probably cycle back through.

Thinking of revisiting the trick worm?
Zoom trick worms. All colors work at some time IME. I rig them weightless, TX rig, Ned heads, shakey head, nose hooked, as a trailer, and just about any other way you could think of. One of my favorite lures.

I was able to get out on a boat with a friend over the long weekend. This friend is willing to let me help run the boat. The last couple of times I've fished with him he's been helping me learn how to operate a boat so that if/when I get one of my own I'll have some valuable experience. Every time he lets me do it I realize that there's a lot I have to learn so I really appreciate him doing it. If I had a boat as nice as his I'd be scared to let me operate it. 🤣 As we were leaving the ramp, he said that I was in charge, and to go wherever I wanted. Our first spot started off with my friend catching a feisty 3 lb 10 oz smallmouth right up against a grass line with a speed worm. He said he thought it was the biggest smallmouth he's ever caught. A PB is a perfect way to start the day, right? We moved on down the bank only catching a couple away from the grass. We decided to run back up, and try the grass again. We caught a couple more pretty quickly so we decided to stick with the grass pattern until it quit working. It worked all morning. We caught 12 fish before lunch time, and 8 of them were caught on the edge of the grass with a speed worm. Nothing big. Mostly 2 to 2.5 pounders along with the 3+ lb smallmouth, but it was a fun morning. My friend's grandson joined us around lunch time, but we had no luck finding fish after that. The picture below shows everything I threw all day. I caught none on the pink trick worm, one on the chrome lipless, two on the spinnerbait, and 4 on the speed worm. My friend caught all 5 of his on a speed worm, including the smallmouth which was the big fish of the day. One interesting note is that I didn't notice how many bugs there were while I was behind the console driving the boat. I let the grandson take over when he joined us so I moved to the center seat. I found out about the bugs pretty quickly. I had to wash my hair 3 times when I got home to get all the dead bugs out of my scalp. It was definitely worth it though. I made some mistakes navigating the boat, but I gained some valuable experience. I doubt that I'll ever own a boat as nice as my friend's, but I do hope to have one of my own some day. He's a brave man for letting me operate it, and it is appreciated.

Who's bass fishing videos do you like on youtube?
That's on the epic level like Glenn's @MN Fisher.

Who's bass fishing videos do you like on youtube?
No doubt.

What determines the size bait you pick??
Whatever size the person standing next to me is catching fish on. 🤣

Who's bass fishing videos do you like on youtube?
@Glenn I think videos "other than BassResource" is (or should be) implied in the original question. Your videos are great. Watching one on Youtube is how I found this site.

Length of the Average Fishing Trip
I'd say 25% of my trips take place during my lunch break. These trips are always less than 1 hour. 25% of my trips are on a boat with a friend. Those usually last 6-8 hours. I could usually go longer, but my friends are usually ready to go. It's their boat, their call. I always appreciate any time I'm allowed to fish from someone's boat. 50% of my trips are right after work. How long those last depends on how much sunlight is left, what family obligations I have that evening, how tolerable the temperature is, and whether or not I'm catching fish. Those trips usually last 1-3 hours. Mostly in the 1-1.5 hour range.

Accidental colors
I intentionally mix colors. I love the standard colors, but I always mix a few watermelon worms in with my reddish worms. It makes a fantastic looking color that's not a super bright red, but also not a bubble gum pink. Another one that I really like is a disco violet colored plastic mixed with some red shad/red bug plastics. I do the same with chartreuse. I rarely ever fish chartreuse colored plastics, but I buy them to mix with my watermelon, green pumpkin, & white plastics. This gives it some pop without being too wild. I've never mixed dark colors, but looking at yours I might have to try it. It looks good.

I was really hoping to see @Pat Brown holding a big bass that he caught on a frog while wearing a tux after the wedding! 🤣 Nicely done, Pat!

Swamp Girl Does It Again!
@Swamp Girl You are more in touch with the emotions around fishing than anyone I've ever seen. You also have a great gift of describing them in a way that we all feel with you. It's an extremely impressive gift that you have.

Eight in a Row
8 in a row is mighty sweet. Awesome day. You and Clayton (there may be others) catch fish at rates that are unfathomable to us mortals. It sure is fun to watch though. I'm thankful y'all take us along for the ride.

Y'all are cracking me up. @Dwight Hottle's smallies have their own zip code, and @Bluebasser86's measurements will automatically convert from inches to miles at some point. He's just a hair under .13 miles of bass now. 🤣

My youngest wanted to go fishing yesterday after I got home from work so we went to a friend's pond. She caught the first one after we'd been there for about 10 minutes. I believe this is her first bass all by herself. She selected the lure, made the cast, hooked the fish, and fought the fish to the bank all by herself. She was not about to hold it for a picture though. After that, she was happy, and done fishing. She said it was OK for me to fish after that so I did. My friend (the pond owner) and I caught 25 fish in about an hour. The best one was 5 lb 7 oz. I'm not sure if it's an early spawner that's already bulked back up, or a late spawner, but she was fat, and hungry. There was a fish's tail sticking out of her throat when I got it in. Not all of the fish were big. My little one's favorite was the dink below. She wanted to take a picture of it. Little did I know that she was going to use my phone to send it to a few folks in my contact list while I was fishing. Good times. 🤣

I am so done with the Bait Monkey.
It's a love/hate relationship for me. I love getting new lures, but I also hate it because I don't have enough fishing time to lose all the lures I buy. The monkey knows right where to hit me. He knows I'm a sucker for a sale on Strike King Rage Tail lures, Dingers, Trick Worms, Zakos, lizards, brush hogs, lipless cranks, jerkbaits, spinnerbaits, rods, reels, and of course hooks, line, and sinkers. 🤣

“Looks like we’ll be blessed with a little more rain” -Cash
Our fishing sure is good after y'all get a lot of rain. Unfortunately, we can only fish in between storms ourselves. It's been relentless this year.
