Went down to the creek this morning and this little guy was the only thing biting. Caught him on a green pumpkin Chatterbait with one of those Berkley The Deal trailers.

After about an hour, got in the car and drove to the lake. Made a few casts right where I had parked the car, but about 100 yards away was this spot.

Ever look at a place and think "this is it"? Made a cast right at the end of the limb there, let the jig hit bottom, dragged it, and immediately felt a bite and a couple of head shakes. Managed to get this guy out of there.

Now, he may not look like much, but it's my biggest jig fish so far and the latest entry in Johnny's Jig Journal.

Lost that jig, plus two more on that little lay down. And I had already lost another one when my connection knot fell apart - also causing one of *those* backlashes. Oh, and another little Keitech jig at the creek earlier. Also backlashed another reel that was spooled with 15lb InvizX - not liking that stuff as a main line so far, but it works okay as a leader - and had to take my little Curado 71 MGL from the topwater/jerkbait rod and put it on my jig rod. Turns out that 30lb regular Power Pro to 12lb Trilene fluoro works just fine for a football jig setup.

Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

  • So I went fishing today, and caught a 9#. Scale bounced between 8-15 and 9-2, but let's call it a 9, shall we? NLMB trout eater.   Super slow rolling a 8" weedless on the bottom in about 15

My kayak clubs championship tournament is this weekend, today was day 1. Not good enough service to post pictures but I caught a new kayak PB 22" and 6.92lbs. I ended day 1 with 87.25", second is 73.5".

Nothing special a 10,12,14 or so on a 1/32 oz jig head with a tiny grub then a flat worm and last but not least a 4.5 quiver worm.

If you hold it out a little farther it would be an A-Jay caliber fish

No doubt ~

I guess a 75 inch sleeve length would do it.

Either way, that's one's bigger than anything I got all day yesterday.

14 bass yesterday, nothing over 2lbs I did catch this nice Pickerel on a wacky rig.

Nice pickerel there, I hate what they do to plastics and line but they get a special mention as always willing to hit a lure. Sometimes more than once........Once they hit about 3-4lbs its a fun battle to the boat.

3lb 2oz Pickerel 9-2-20 River.jpeg

Chunky fish .......seem to be eating well ? Tomorrow is first day out since the rain for couple days. Got 7 rigs ready and waiting.......one is of course a wacky rig. Lotta weedless set-ups for the junk in the water as well as all the breaking off weed mats. Arrowheads died overnight with the cold night we just had. Water temps (low to mid sixties) dropping with upper forty's to low fifty's the new night time norm.

Got a big one this morning but left my scale at home. I carry my gear in my pockets during warm weather so the scale frequently gets left behind. This one seemed at least the equal to a 7.2 I caught in July. Tiny Sub Wart 04 did the trick.

Great summer fish. Haven't seen anything close to that in the ponds I fish on this side of town. Sure some of them have a few, but access is technically limited due to privacy, though I see plenty of people breaking that rule all the time.

Nice fish I always tend to estimate low looking at them, but a scale takes the guesswork out. Good one and hope more come w/this fall like weather now.

These ponds are on the west side of Carmel. My work introduces me to a lot of suburbanites.

Got out for a few hours this morning in a slight drizzle but nice and calm. Started out with a couple dozen smallmouth on a spook, nothing over 3lbs though but still fun. After a while that bite shut down so I switched up and went for largemouth. Between a frog, and a Tokyo rig Maxscent creature hawg, I got another 20 or so largemouth. Again no monsters, but still got a good batch of bass thumb ??.

Never fished for trout but they are beautiful. Congratulations to your son on a job well done and the well earned bragging rights??

Thanks, he is pretty happy to have bested his old man! Amazing the fight these little fish put up in such shallow water. The guide we used was great and really put us on the fish. My buddy was on a different stretch of the river and he landed 15 fish so they knew what they were doing. Very enjoyable day, but I’m not going down the fly fishing rabbit hole just yet. Bass fishing is expensive enough! Haha

Haha. Those wild mountain trout typically aren’t too picky, lots of old timers can wear them out with a long stick, homemade nymph, and split shot. I like catching them with a single hook rooster tail. It doesn’t have to be expensive but the people in the industry obviously want you to keep spending. Congrats to your boy on besting his old man!!!

Night fishing is definitely the best use of my limited fishing time these days, here's a couple decent ones from Friday.  Landed 4 3+lb fish but lost the best one at the boat.  I guess I'll try again....

The smile says it all….

Was off on Friday so I took advantage of the time to hit the lake.  The fishing was a bit slow but I ended up with 12 LM. I was scared for a moment that I was returning to Dinkfest 2021 as my first two were 1 pounders and the next 9 were outright dinks.  I was saved from the time portal vortex to Dinkfest at the end of the day when I caught the 2.66 lb bass below.

Spent all day Saturday on show choir support, grand daughter's birthday and dinner so I didn't get out.  Did manage to get out on Sunday after 4pm as the back of the boat fisherman.  Was living in Skunksville until i finally snagged this 3.76 lb on a Tokyo rigged 7.5" Culprit Fire-n-Ice.

I think the only reason i caught him was because he appears to be blind in one eye.  If you zoom in, you'll see what I mean.

We added a couple more spots to our shore fishing menu this weekend.  Finally got a hook into one on a hollow body frog, then went for a short walk-in at a small lake and my son hooked and landed his first ever on a spinnerbait.  After catching a few on a TR worm, I decided to toss a dropshot out into a bit deeper water and caught a decent one - my son did the honors of landing it for me and holding it for a photo.  Gotta start somewhere size-wise and sharing these “firsts” together is a lot of fun. ?

So that's what happens to me some days..........it's also what they tell me when tackle packages just disappear on their way to me. I hate that stinkin' time portal vortex ?
