Had a day today! We got to spend basically an entire day on the water. Took my buddy and his son out, tried the offshore spots although we thought water temps were still too high (56-58). Luckily we aren’t fish and they were in the winter spots ! We boated 5-6 nice ones, the youngster with the biggest at 21.5” (his new biggest bass). We also lost 3-4 fish in this spot including one fairly beastly one I brought up to the boat and my buddy grabbed the line and it jumped off. He felt worse than I did about it haha. We also ran way up river and caught 3 more small fish and one decent one fishing shallower on stumps. Tried offshore on the way back in but the wind was picking up after all day of slick calm so we called it.  Even a little yellow bass and spotted bass rode home with me for dinner

Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

Nice work! We are having unseasonably warm weather here so me and a buddy are going to an ice less pond tomorrow looking for crappies. Hopefully some fillets in my future.

Went to a lake I never fish this late in the year with a couple guys from my kayak club on Saturday. It was not great. Pedaled about 5 miles and ended up catching 9 bass all by the ramp right before I left. They were not large.

Caught a ton of drum and a couple big white bass. The highlight of the day was accidentally snagging this thing in the dorsal fin with a #5 shad rap on a ML spinning rod and 8lb test. Drug me around in the yak for about 10 minutes. It weighed 24.21lbs and was probably a little over 30" long.

Nice!  True Fact: My wife is from Fergus Falls.  We fished a couple of the lakes in the area years ago for bluegill, but haven't been back in a long time after her parents moved away.  There's so much fishable water in that area, it's hard to know where I'd start if we went back!

Hyperpigmented melanosis

Rough translation: "Condition that makes the skin darker than usual."  Probably what I'd call it too!  Goes to show scientific names are (appropriately) descriptions at most, not explanations.

Walked to a pond this afternoon only to find it completely covered in skim ice. Turned around and walked a different direction to the deepest pond I have access to - it was all open water. Was able to pick off a handful of bass on Ned before calling it. Small warm up in the forecast for later this week. Hoping to get out a time or two, maybe even get the boat out. This was the best of bunch today.

Even a little yellow bass

What the heck is a yellow bass? Is that what you call a perch down there?

A yellow bass looks like a small white bass but it has a yellowish tint to the sides. We have several lakes here in Northwest Iowa that are full of them..routinely catch them when I'm up visiting my parents. Good eats!

Nope - yellow bass is a separate species...closer to white bass and striped bass than LMB or SMB.

Well isn’t that odd. I’ve never even heard of it until now. It does kinda look like a white bass with a yellowish hue though.

That’s the one, looks like small white bass that’s yellow. In Texas they call them bar fish. I also encountered a yellow perch that day, because a smallmouth barfed it. I know what you’re thinking and yes I used it as bait (but got stuck and lost it )

Haha.  Ya you know what I'm thinking but some things are just better of not being said again.  The horse already died, no use trying to beat it anymore.

Great week of fishing during Thanksgiving break. All fish came on an A rig, which is one of my favorite ways to catch lake fish. Best 5 all week went for 19.5, and best 5 in a day went for 17.5lbs. I had a 5-6lber come off as i was flipping it which would have put us over 20lbs easily.

This nice weather has to end eventually, but I'm sure enjoying it while I can. Getting out and catching fish from the kayak after work the last day of November is pretty sweet.

Ahhh, thank goodness we don’t have to see the rusty tape measure.  Had me scared for a second there.

Caught her at a private pond, but for 12/3 in PA I'm grateful for any bite I can get!

I'm proud of these two bass from yesterday. The lake went from 56 degrees Wednesday with 7' visibility to 63 degrees and 2' visibility. I normally zero on the bass during the turnover. I did catch some Hybrids(spoons) and Crappie(jerkbaits).

I had a foggy morning of fishing and catching dinks. This was the last catch of the day. Smallmouth, I think? I have no idea what type of bass this is. What is this?

Well I guess I caught my first ever smallmouth this morning. Awesome!

It hit HARD about 5 feet off the shore on a rock pile. Now I want to know what a big smallmouth fights like...
