@Swamp Girl, we'll definitely miss your reports. But take the time to get better, don't push yourself, and hopefully you can be back at it before too long.

Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

Had my boss and his son over today . Primary goal was bream. The 2nd bream Alex hooked , as he had it almost to the dock , a bass clobbered the bream and he hooked the bass right in the corner of the

  • So I went fishing today, and caught a 9#. Scale bounced between 8-15 and 9-2, but let's call it a 9, shall we? NLMB trout eater.   Super slow rolling a 8" weedless on the bottom in about 15

Prayers for successful surgery and fast healing @Swamp Girl. On the upside, you've already had what most of us would consider an outstanding year of fishing, so congrats on that.

@Swamp GirlTake care of yourself and I’m sure you’ll be back to taming those Maine linebacker bass in no time.

I also got a pumpkinseed on the curlytail grub, but no picture.

A friend that fished with me got a 2lb bass on a popper. Took him home to eat him and said there was about a 3" bluegill in his stomach. Interesting.

Some good spots

Ponds are muddy still about 1 foot visibility max. I threw a black and blue bladed mini max jig. I still don’t like them lol. I caught them on a swamp monster snapper jig with. Rage craw trailer in falcon craw. Black and green jig and red bug trailer basically. I really like that combo. Did have this guy hit the blades jig tho. Haven’t caught one of these in a long time lol

@Swamp Girl Mental Health GIF by younginvinciblesThose big old Maine bass will be there when you’re ready to go get them. Also this just means more time with your new puppy.

Get well soon, @Swamp Girl! You’ll be back, and better than ever before you know it.

Had an awesome 2 hour trip on my kayak too a rock quarry which connects to my local lake. I've never caught a fish there before but today was hard not to catch one. I missed 6 on frog... 2 on lipless, 1 on swim jig. So I did my best to not catch lol.

Started by getting a good bite on a heavy Siebert jig. Then missed the frog bites. They were busting on bait balls over 40' water, and also hitting in shallows . I wanted a popper but didn't have one with me, so I settled for a lipless and it did the trick. I was still getting good bites when I left because of early dinner plans, which was sad to abandon a hot bite but I'll definitely be watching this spot the rest of the summer!

Even scored one that I think is a white bass but may be a perch. The lines make me think bass but let me know what you think.

I had a pretty good day on the Delta starting off first thing in a still, calm morning and the beginning of an outgoing tide perfect for topwater and I alternated between a popper and a LC Sammy. It was the Sammy that disappeared in a garbage can lid swirl that had me thinking big green fish until a bonus striped bass was boat side.
The popper produced consistently throughout the early morning until it didn’t and I decided to punch matted vegetation. Punching with a creature bait was very productive and included a couple of light green, almost golden largemouth bass.

But the meanest, most battle scared and hardest fighting fish (pic #4, pic #5) of the session wanted a t-rigged 6” senko. And funny thing is based on this particular fish’s battle damage I think I may have caught it before (pic #6), 061319 on a wacky rigged 6” senko. In looking at the pictures the wish I just could remember where in the delta in ‘19 I caught it, but it’s possible it’s the same fish, right? If so, it definitely says a lot about C&R, not to mention the resiliency of the black bass.

Paddled around with my buddy Josh Thursday evening. Water was pretty swift but we made it a mile of so upstream and drifted back down to the ramp. I picked off two largemouth and a spotted bass (I believe the Kentucky variety). One of the largemouth was well fed. The smaller plano box (3500) fits nicely onto my cooler for short evening trips in the canoe

Nothing too wild and crazy. Couple really good ones in there.  But plenty of fun size ones right now!

Even getting a few on the frog and buzzbait which is always a treat!

Checked out two new ponds this morning.  The first was a bust.  What makes it worse was that it was a tough spot to get into so a lot of work for nothing.
IMG_3093.jpeg.51340743d934011b3825260fa89e52a6.jpeg

Second was an easier portage but a smaller pond.  Caught a decent one and a few dinks.

Was about to wrap it up when I casted into this corner where the duckweed meets the reeds and watched my line swim away.

I set the hook and after a bit of a struggle I hauled in this 5 pounder to salvage the day.IMG_3100.jpeg.f468cf51274a57933d72e2c5bd2d9c02.jpeg

Some fish from this season so far. Haven't struck a big one in almost a month now. So far caught a 6lber, two 5lbers, and a couple of 4s. Iowa Bass Fishing!

@Swamp Girl. Congratulations on a great year!  We all look forward to your great reports and photos!  Keep us posted on your progress.

Got out before it got "heart attack" hot.  Froggin was guuud!

Got out again today, same spot, they were still there! Tried an offshore hair jig and caught a couple on that. Another on a heavy Siebert jig, and one on a lipless.

Trip got cut short by a nasty storm unfortunately. I was on a roll. I usually catch about 1 per 90 min on this lake so it's really fun to be getting bites more consistently.

@Swamp Girl, sorry you’re ailing. I have a little pain in my wrists from time but rest always helps. Too bad you may miss most of the summer. If it’s any consolation, I don’t fish much ( comparatively) in the summer.
I do plan to go early on July 4th. I guess we  are partly  selfish about you recovering asap because we enjoy your input and stories.

Maine just seems so interesting. I never knew you had that kind of bass fishing that far north…

Plus another walleye that didn't get the camera or the stringer.

Our 4 day heat wave broke Wednesday, but it’s been quite windy.  Forecast was good this morning though, 4-8mph winds and about 60 degrees at 5am.  Took a buddy to a small local lake, and enjoyed a mix of bass and pike.  Caught a couple on a popper early, including the biggest (just over 3# I’d guess).  This one made me think I had a much bigger fish, sucked in my popper about 5ft. off some lily pads, then swam out fast into 8.5ft. of water where it got wrapped up in submerged coontail.  Treble hooks are trouble in the weeds and I only had a medium rod with 12# copoly.  I keep pressure, he finally swam free, and just as we saw some gold he pulled drag and put me right back into a different patch of weeds.  Steady pressure again and I tightened the drag just enough to feel some progress, with my buddy finally netting my “5 pounder” that was the fish and two pounds of weeds. lol

The topwater bite didn’t last an hour, then we got into a good bite with my buddy throwing a spinnerbait and me using a paddletail on a flashy swimmer. That bite died about 7am, and we only caught a few more the next two hours.  Ended up with probably 15 bass, a dozen pike, one bitten off frog and a couple waypoints to build on next time.

At one point, I turned to say something to my buddy and saw black smoke to the west.  I called 911 and they said thank you, it’s been reported and fire department is dispatched.  It was probably less than 10 minutes before we heard sirens from the south, then 5 minutes later more from the north, as this area is between two rural fire stations.  Not a bad response time for an all volunteer fire department.  The smoke turned white and ended not long after the sirens stopped.  I hope everyone was ok, and hate the thought of a house fire happening to anyone.

Ya gotta admire this little fellas ambition. Not only did it try to eat a double 10, but it T-boned it and got the front hook. 😂 Crazy fish!!!

A little later I picked up a 24" eye on a 5" Tuff Shad. It'll be served blackened, with fried potatoes and coleslaw tomorrow evening.

Couldn't get a muskie to eat those muskie baits though. They've been pretty uncooperative lately.
