Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

Had my boss and his son over today . Primary goal was bream. The 2nd bream Alex hooked , as he had it almost to the dock , a bass clobbered the bream and he hooked the bass right in the corner of the

  • So I went fishing today, and caught a 9#. Scale bounced between 8-15 and 9-2, but let's call it a 9, shall we? NLMB trout eater.   Super slow rolling a 8" weedless on the bottom in about 15

I remember hooking a four-pounder in heavy cover and that one bass wore me out. Then I hooked another four-pounder on the next cast and literally said, "Oh, no, not again."

But you did it 29 times, Al!

Well, I finally went fishing with the vet and @Blue Raider Bob. Bob arrived last night from Tennessee and after I fed him taters, toast, an egg, and sausage links, the vet arrived and I drove them to my pond. It was 36 degrees when we launched and the canoes were frosty. Bob paddled by himself in my solo canoe and I put Al, the veteran, in the bow of my canoe. We all caught bass and enjoyed the beauty and quiet of my pond. Bob caught one that went about three pounds and we saw a few fat ones in the tandem canoe too:

It was an honor to fish with such fine men!

Nothing exciting. Rained here all weekend. So I modified some buzzbaits and went and played with them in the ponds near the house. Missed a lot. Experimenting with mono instead of braid. Saw a cool crawfish I helped get untangled from some line.

My two year old caught this nice little river smallie on Memorial Day. He got scared once we got it close to the bank (plus he's still a little guy), so I landed it for him.

Although he didn't want to touch it, he now asks to see pictures of "my fish" every day.

Life has been busy and I haven't had the opportunity to do much fishing. This is the only fish of the year to date.

Couple highlights from the day. Bite is picking back up after the big cool down from memorial day weekend GPTempDownload.jpegGPTempDownload.jpeg

That second fish has some beautiful color @Susky River Rat! Nice picture.

Another 3 fish day this morning before work. First time trying out the chop block I’ve had since winter. The action is surprisingly good and this fish had both hooks in him. If anyone is looking for a replacement handle that is actually light weight and not huge, this heighten brand one is nice. I did have to add a shim to one side though. I’m not sure why most baitcasters come with one knob perfect and the other needing a couple washers…IMG_9294.jpeg

Doing a little prefishing for the upcoming state lake roadrunner tournament in a couple weeks this past weekend. This one is one of my least favorite tournaments of the year because all the state lakes close to me are ungood to put it nicely. I went to the "best", one that is about a hour from my house. This lake use to be really good, but it took a pretty hard nosedive several years ago and it just hasn't ever recovered all the way. I think the fact that it really sits out by itself and gets a lot of bank fishing pressure (meat eaters), the big fish got removed and the numbers haven't rebounded. Last year, it took just over 90" to win the roadrunner, so I was looking for potential to get to that. It was actually better than I'd expected, ending up around 86" and missed a couple solid bites. I thought I had a real good kicker, but I always forget this lake has drum in it, unlike most state lakes.

Sunday I took the boys out in the boat for a little bit. A buddy from work has been asking me to bring him some fish and I've been noticing 2 things when I go out to the lake by the house lately; there's a lot of big bluegills on beds, there's a lot of catfish cruising around a couple different docks.

They hammered on the bluegills while I let a piece of cutbait sit out in a couple different spots, and each one of them got to wrestle in a healthy channel cat. I ended up with almost a full gallon bag of fillets for him and his family to enjoy.

Temps were hot; fishing was not.

I worked up a lather before I got in the water. Only caught three. One early on top with a Zara Spook, one one a Bitsy jig with an Easy Shiner trailer, and one on a Siebert Fogy bladed jig with a Rage Menace trailer. That one hit the bait about 1.5’ from the boat. Only two pics as I left my net on the bed of the truck and while I had the bass in the boat, I dropped it over the side getting the hook out. Had fun, and cleaned up a lot of junk line left in the water and bushes, along with other litter.

Strangely, @Blue Raider Bob and I have only fished once and that was with the Hero, but we might fish for two hours today and again tomorrow morning. There's just so much to do and share and Bob goes, goes, goes. He wants to see, walk, and eat Maine. Yesterday he walked alone along a stretch of thundering coast and plumbed tidal pools. He has a great eye and he notes and appreciates everything from the smallest flower to the biggest mansions. For those who know Maine, we're also visiting Camden today, the "Jewel of the Coast," where we'll watch the windjammers from the 1800s come and go, while sitting beside the waterfall that tumbles into the harbor. But we won't sit for long because Bob wants to see what's around the next corner. Tomorrow we'll done at a fish shack that's won a James Beard award and it too is situated by a falls, albeit a tidal reverse falls, which is a feature found only where you have great tides. And we're going to visit the world famous Wooden Boat School, since Bob is a builder and I think he'll love the craftsmanship and picture perfect campus. I'll soon post pics of this morning's fish.

Bob and I caught 32 this morning. This was the biggest, caught by Bob:

However, we caught many bass 16.5" and up:

We had a great time, fishing and laughing and talking. Bob really enjoys fishing the shallow bog:

It's very easy to spook bass in inches of water and we both loved watching the lines in the water that bass make when they scoot.

Frog fishing was good, however puttin' 'em in the boat was not good! Had plenty of blowups but they weren't eating it! Landed 3 small bass, just barely hooked. Adjusted size, speed, and color but they just wouldn't eat it. Let 'em take it longer than I normally would and that didn't work either. It was still a glorious day!

Nice. Some days they only want the legs.😁

Saginaw Bay Smallies were feisty today.

Launched out of the mouth of the Saginaw River this morning and started looking for some bass. Headed out to an island near the mouth of the river.

Started the day by ripping a lil general ned in gobey through the weed lines on a 5-6 ft flat. Picked up one 2.5 lbs large mouth. Fished that and various weed lines for another hour and decided to go try and find some smallies.

Went around the island and went to the same spot where I pounded the smallies in the fall. I caught 5-6 smallies out of one spot. They were holding extremely tight to cover. I would literally have to bounce my maxx scent Gobie ned head right of the metal dock structure watch the Ned slide down the gridded and boom fish on. Most of these smallies came in 4-6ft of water. The big 3.5lber came off the same structure but a little deeper in 6-8ft. All of the smallies faught very well today.

I knew the M/V Sam Laude was in bound with stone for the upper Saginaw River. She ended up by me on her way up river around 11:30am. The photos that I took do not do justice to how close I was. She was still at full power doing 18 kts when she passed me. While on the trolling motor her suction literally turned the boat 360 like a toy top. The resulted silt she kicked up eventually blew into the area I was fishing and killed the action.

I caught a bunch of 1 lbs bass later in the kawkalin river.
